Introduction to the Events That Will Play Out
Hitchcoc21 August 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This series is going to revolve around the death of an eleven year old child who has been found on a beach. Suicide has been ruled out because of the distance from a steep cliff, and the fact that he was strangled by a strong hand (or something). We are also introduced to the two principle detectives on the case: one, a sullen man who likes to do things his way, and a middle aged woman who was passed over for the chief inspector's job in favor of the former. The camera is very careful to give us a continual view of people who will probably be looked at. There are some odd doing, including the erasing of a computer by the boy's friend. There is also a loose cannon daughter who is enamored with an athletic looking man and who messes up the security by visiting the site of the body. Good start. Let's see how it played out.

Interesting

I found the beginning interesting and intriguing. I'll see what will happen.

I thought that the actors are quite... Let's say stiff. But I guess that is because I don't use to see shows with British actors. I'll see how it will become. Maybe knowing better the characters will help.

Gripping, but I need subtitles! (Only partly joking here)
judyvla1 May 2021
Fantastic series, brilliant acting, intelligent writing. BUT: I find the dialogue almost impenetrable at times. This is partly because the quite realistic sound design doesn't blare the voices over background noise, and partly because the Scots accent (the new hire is Scots, right?) is famously indecipherable. I have reasonable experience with some of the gnarlier accents of the British Isles, but this show is a real challenge. Does Duolingo have a Scots course?

A stunning first episode

Wow. Everything about this episode was just incredible. The acting, the music, the script, and the cinematography are like nothing I've ever seen. Everything is pitch perfect, and the mystery that develops from here is very intriguing. Broadchurch is a little known masterpiece outside of the UK.

An amazing opening episode.
Sleepin_Dragon10 September 2020
Beth wakes up to discover her son is missing, she than has to face every mother's worst nightmare, the tragic death of her son.

Chris Chibnall has spent the last few years on Doctor Who, we will all have our views, some think he's done a great job, freshening up the show, others think he's massacred it with a woke agenda, many views. One thing most fans agree with, he did a mesmerising job with Broadchurch.

This tragic, incredible first series begins with this outstanding opener, it's very upsetting, but you as a viewer want to learn the truth, and discover why.

It flashes past all of the main players, every character we see in the opening will play a part.

The laugh at the time surrounded the wonderful Olivia Colman, who was quite literally in everything, she's terrific, it's Jodie however who shows how good she is.

Captivating, 10/10.

I Could Go On And On And On...

Warning: Spoilers
As much as I hate watching a cancelled show I've never seen before, this one keeps coming up on my recommended list on Netflix so I guess I will check it out.

So we have a female cop who has been off work comes back expecting to fill a new position and finds that it has been filled by some asshat with a reputation she doesn't like. Oh sure I bet they wind up partners eh? That's not predictable. We get a body of a young boy on the beach. The body is like 100 feet from the base of a cliff. There's no chance in hell that the body could have got that far from the cliff if the boy had jumped. Yet they ask 'is this a suicide spot?' So the male cop is obviously an idiot or the scriptwriting is just very bad. -1 Star.

Really someone made it look like he jumped off the cliff? Ummm duh he couldn't have jumped off the cliff the body was OVER 100 FEET FROM THE BASE OF THE CLIFF. WHAT ARE YOU STUPID????

Sad because if this is going to be the basis for the start of the show, this writing is stupid stupid stupid.

So these 2 cops go to the kids home and inform the family their kid is Dead.

Father I guess goes to see the body. Hate to tell you but they don't put a body on display in a room with windows for ID purposes. More bad uninformed writing and follow up. -1 Star

Hey now's a good time to go walking on the pier and eat some ice cream. I don't even want to comment further on that.

Oh look its Walder FREY!! Okay wait did I reach my limit on characters?? Or can I keep at it??? When you have Walder Frey in the show, you seriously need a RED WEDDING! And here we have another stupid plot point. Idiot announces that 'If you've noticed a friend or family member behaving strangely in the last week, call and report them.' Geez, that's some good policing there isn't it? Okay thankfully this ep is over. 3/10.
