In the new weekly series Bring Your Own Documentary (Byod), documentary filmmaker Ondi Timoner ("We Live in Public") interviews fellow directors in the genre. This installment sees Timoner talking to Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato ("Party Monster," "Inside Deep Throat") to discuss their 2011 doc "Being Chaz," which detailed the travails of Chaz Bono's life after his gender reassignment surgery. In the interview, Bailey and Barbato discuss what they discovered about Chaz and Cher's relationship during the filming and the difficulties of getting an interview to work around Cher's busy schedule.

After dating for more than six years, Chaz Bono and Jennifer Elia have called it quits. The "Dancing with the Stars" almost-champion confirmed the news to TMZ through his rep who stated that the pair "are no longer a couple."
Just last month, Bono's documentary series, "Being Chaz" showed Bono proposing to his longtime girlfriend on top of the Seattle Space Needle. But even though the pair, who have been dating since 2005, is putting a period on their relationship, that doesn't mean they will not continue to be in one another's lives: "They leave this relationship with great love, respect and affection toward one another," Bono's rep continues. "No further amplification will be forthcoming and they ask that you respect their privacy at this time."

There's no denying that Chaz Bono has had an incredible year. Not only did the Lgbt activist and author star on Season 13 of ABC's hit "Dancing With the Stars" -- and spark subsequent backlash for being the first transgender person to do so -- but he was also awarded the Hero Award at the 2011 Glsen Respect Awards and named one of Out magazine's 100 Lgbt people of the year. Now Chaz has another accomplishment to add to his list before ringing in the new year: He's engaged.
In the Own documentary, 'Being Chaz,' which is a follow-up to the Emmy-nominated 'Becoming Chaz,' Chaz proposed to his girlfriend, Jennifer Elia.
In a short interview with The Huffington Post, Chaz opened up about letting the cameras back into his home, finding the courage to transition and, of course, his new-found 'Dancing With the Stars' friends. And for the record,...

Chaz Bono and long-time fiancee Jennifer Elia have take the next step toward becoming man and wife. Cher's son gave Elia an engagement ring during the most recent episode of the TV show "Being Chaz."
While atop the Space Needle in Seattle, the "Dancing with the Stars" alum says he wanted to pick a "special place to give her her birthday present." The 42-year-old Bono began dating Elia in 2005.
Elia was obviously emotional with the situation. "Wow. It's gorgeous. Thank you so much. It's stunning. It's huge!" Elia says while gazing at the diamond ring.
While the couple actually got engaged two years ago, they were holding off on the wedding until Bono's transgender process was complete.
The show aired on Own on Sunday (Nov. 27).

Welcome back, folks! Did you miss us? Even a little? Things get quiet over the holidays, but we've still got things to share. But first, I was hoping as we shift gears into Christmas we might revive the forum topic where members share their Christmas trees. My first tree in the new house is up, though I prefer my outdoor decorations to my indoor ones this year.
I hate to admit that my beloved Muppets were beaten by a sparkly vampire, but Breaking Dawn raked in another $62 million, while my felt friends delivered a solid $42 million. Happy Feet 2 took third, with Arthur Christmas falling into fourth with $17 million and Hugo scraping together $15 million.
Remember that sad little ginger seal that was rejected by its colony a couple of months back? Well, karma isn't always a beyotch, because she's now the star of her Russian zoo.
Is anyone besides me surprised...

This week's installment of 'Being Chaz' (Sun., 8Pm Et on Own) took us back to the fallout from the announcement that Chaz Bono would be joining this latest season of 'Dancing With the Stars.' His fiancée Jennifer Elia was shocked and horrified at some of the comments that came through Twitter.
It is amazing how much hatred some people can have in their hearts. Certainly, the Internet has made it easier for these people to spew some of the most horrific and terrifying bile toward others, and Bono received plenty, including threats of physical violence and death.
"I don't think its worth it to do this show if he's gonna get shot," Elia said. "I don't want him to die for a cause."

It's been a big year for Chaz Bono -- from starring on "Dancing With The Stars" to being nominated as one of Out magazine's 100 Lgbt people of the year -- and if the above clip from the new Own documentary "Being Chaz" is any indication of what's in store for 2012, next year should be just as monumental.
In the preview, which is from the follow up to the Emmy-nominated documentary "Becoming Chaz," Bono proposes to girlfriend Jennifer Elia while atop the Seattle Space Needle reports TMZ.com.
"It's gorgeous. Thank you so much," Elia says upon being presented with her engagement ring. "It's stunning. It's huge."
"Being Chaz," which airs tonight on Own at 8pm Et, focuses less on Bono's transition and more on his life, including, as People.com notes, the backlash he encountered when he became the first transgender contestant to compete on ABC's "Dancing With The Stars.

Chaz Bono dropped by 'The Wendy Williams Show' (weekdays, syndicated on Fox) to talk to his fellow 'Dancing With The Stars' alum about his upcoming Own special, 'Being Chaz,' a follow-up to Own's Emmy nominated special 'Becoming Chaz.' Bono said they "started shooting it a few weeks before 'Dancing With The Stars' and filmed it the whole way through ... It's got a lot of drama and a lot of behind-the- scenes of 'Dancing With The Stars.'"
When Chaz came on in May to talk about 'Becoming Chaz,' he mentioned that he wasn't comfortable with the procedures available for transgender female-to-male genital reassignment surgery, but told Wendy today that, "There's a procedure that I'll probably do ... when I get some time off."

Fresh off a run on Dancing with the Stars, in which he was widely praised for his audience appeal, Chaz Bono is gearing up for the premiere of Being Chaz, a new documentary special on Own. Viewers may be familiar with Becoming Chaz, a documentary that chronicled his physical transition. The new special follows Chaz as he jumps into his new life – and his girlfriend Jen Elia as she adjusts to having a boyfriend. It also shows Chaz’s preparation for Dancing with the Stars and the insane swirl of bile and death threats that followed the announcement that he would be on the show.
As if he isn’t already busy enough, Chaz took some time to talk to the media in a group interview about all that and then some.

For those who can remember the adorable little blonde girl on "Sonny and Cher," Chaz Bono's very public transformation from a woman into a man has likely been a jarring one -- and probably accounts for some of the angry response to Bono's decision to star in the current season of "Dancing with the Stars." But Bono has inspired people (and not just transgendered people) everywhere with both his honesty and his willingness to share his transition with the world in the Own documentary "Becoming Chaz," which was nominated for three Emmys. Tuesday morning, Howard Stern will chat with Chaz Bono for his first major interview since his exit from "Dancing with the Stars." And what exactly will Bono have to say about letting the Mirror Ball trophy slip from his hands? You'll have to tune in to find out.
"Howard and his audience have always supported Chaz," an insider told me. "As outrageous as Howard is, he has always been a friend of the gay, lesbian and transgender community. He thinks Chaz is cool and can't wait to talk with him tomorrow."
Chaz is stepping back into the public spotlight -- although this time it won't be with a quickstep -- to promote his new documentary, "Being Chaz," which premieres Nov. 27 on Oprah Winfrey's Own network. "Being Chaz" is a follow-up to the hugely successful "Becoming Chaz" which followed Cher's son throughout the process of physically becoming a transgender man.
