Great potential but descended into a farce
yanikeuk-8463218 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Was wowed by this movie from the outset. Great cinematography, excellent costuming & an A list cast. But the movie quickly disintegrated into a laughing stock of a story line.

The plot began with great promise, get Chief Daddy's money back, but this never materialised into anything as the only plan to do so was to... make his son a huge super star??? They all ended up in Dubai which seemed to serve no purpose other than to bring an international element (& hype) to the film.

And the A list cast failed to deliver. In fact, there were too many of them! The film felt cluttered, overcasted with a rambling, incoherent plot line that had too many unnecessary parts & grew more & more ridiculous until we are finally given our release (the film drags on to the point of begging it to end) with a completely bonkers ending.

The only saving grace is that these are seasoned actors and combined with beautiful cinematography, great locations & a beautifully cladded cast, the movie just about manages to save itself from being one of the worst big budget films to be released from Nollywood this year or maybe ever.

First disaster recorded in 2022
adeshina-bl2 January 2022
A painstaking experience is the movie suggests that the entire cast and crew aim was to achieve the first disaster in 2022. A Netflix release date of 1st of January 2022 further suggests that was the sole intention. The acting was bad, the soundtrack were repetitive, the storyline was... (if there was one I would have described it here). The worst part, there could be a Chief Daddy 3.

Chief Daddy 2 Disastrously Fails to Deliver Quality
imenselopez3 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I love to promote Nollywood whenever possible.

The sequel is very disappointing. The biggest problem is that the script didn't build on the original movie. The sub-storylines were excessive, disjointed and mostly unnecessary. The absolute hilarity and energy found in the original were completely nonexistent.

Some of the stronger character roles from the original like Ekanem, Donatus and Aunty Ajoke were barely heard from. We have no idea why Ireti and Dami Baggio seemingly abandoned their good-natured purposes, and are presented as very disconnected from their roles in the prequel Chief Daddy 1. Ireti's new role as an antagonist of the family was never addressed throughout the movie and sadly never resolved at the end of the movie.

The movie focuses mainly on Femi and Dami Baggio, the older sons of the late chief as well as escapades in Dubai. The costumes and set designs are beautiful but these do not mitigate the obvious lack of a cohesive storyline.

I love Nollywood and I pay homage to the late Rachel Oniga who passed away shortly after the film's production was completed. If you are going to create room for a sequel in the original movie, make sure that you carefully create a great sequel. Chief Daddy 1 is an endearing comedic classic for Nollywood and the sequel leaves us more than disappointed.

A WASTE OF TIME

Title: Chief Daddy 2: Going for broke Year: 2022

Wow... Chief daddy 2 is way worse than chief daddy 1, and I would rate chief daddy 1, a good 0.5/5.

This movie is bad... Very bad

Story line is incoherent, plot was non existent, actors were below par.

I am shocked that this came from Ebonylife studios. A star studded cast did nothing for the movie... Except make it obvious that the director Niyi Akinmolayan has no idea what he was doing.

I am also shocked that Mo Abudu is the writer.

This movie is worse than appalling

It was a waste if 1hr and 50 mins.

This is the first disaster of 2022.

If I would beg for one thing...

DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE!

Rating: E better to fast than chop nonsense (-5/5) 😠😠😠😠

When is going to end?
dereksylvans9 January 2022
To summarize the plot, it was leaking like a sieve.

The characters somehow became a lot more annoying and unrealistic, plus no tangible development. Was it funny? Maybe it could be if you don't spend the near 2hrs watching the movie wanting to punch the director/screenwriter.

Why do these caliber of films make it past the home video format and into the big screens (platform wise) in big 2022? The world is watching, and these people are doing Nollywood's reputation no good... look at Nigeria's music industry for a change!

Chief Daddy 2: A Movie To Avoid
operaeditorsarewicked3 January 2022
I dragged myself to see Chief Daddy 2 and I must confess that's the worst way to start a new year. The movie is a total waste of time and if you're yet to see it, PLEASE DON'T. The industry needs to tender an apology to the viewers.

DONT
maj20173 January 2022
It's really awful. I feel embarrassed for all the actors/actresses. I watched it cos I was curious about the bad reviews. But wow. I'm not watching any Ebonylife movie going forward. Clearly, someone doesn't have their head screwed on in there.

Absolutely horrendous
banjoadetutualice3 January 2022
Storyline is absolutely the worst, could not bring myself to watch till the end. Just packed many stars. How can I be 1hr into a comedy drama without laughing? Disappointed.

Good comic relief, good past time
Shield3d3 January 2022
I literally came of night shifts and settled with this movie. If you've not seen chief daddy 2, I kindly ask, what are you waiting for? It's incredible!

It flagged off with Rahama Saadus entry which was a good continuum from the former. Her entry gave a plot to the movie, "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger", "If you really want something you'll find a way, If you don't, you'll find an excuse". In between these, were different shades of awesomeness, from the comical character of Famzy, to the love story between Dammy & Ada, to the embittered mum who was about to lose it all, to the sisters who had no clue how to survive, to the lawyer who got all too engrossed with the family, to the fancy locations used (big fans of travel can pick a place or 2), to the colorful African attires, and of course the new casts who understood the assignment. It was good to hear Samuel Perry's voice.

I'd say each cast had a role you could align with, some upscale from the former movie, some downscale, albeit too much for one movie. There was some discontinuity in some scenes and roles, by and large forgivable, especially with good cinematography and camera angles. All in all, there was effort, and it's a good movie for the holidays and the start of the year. The soundtrack brought back some good music!

I'll be recommending this to my colleagues and friends.

What a waste of time
tochiitanyi15 January 2022
Mediocre at best. A mix of too many famous (famous not meaning good) actors and a script that has so many holes it might as well be a sieve. Need 2 hours worth of proof that Nollywood is mostly just transactional at the cost of actual art? Watch this.
