It takes 3/4 episodes to feel for the characters, ironically when they're laid over in Oz seems to help the connection. The very nature of the Pacific war means the staging & relationship with the environment is different. Also it does come a significant time span after BoB in terms of production. It's also not quite as sentimental. The performances, direction & effects are still there. It is still harrowing at times. It's good.

Getting better ...ish

Too bad it's more than halfway through the series, but, it's finally coming together into a six.
The first half of this episode drops these points big time with it's haze the new guy BS and the look how well the veterans have adapted to the tropics by cutting the sleeves off their shirts crap.
