Flaws
bangel332231 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I like the time jump as it's great to see Gabby with children and Lynette's kids older. Although I would have liked to have seen more of Susan and Mike raising their baby.

Although it's seems a bit odd that Susan and Mike would divorce over the car accident. Seeing as they get along so well after the divorce.

The big flaw here for me is the age of Lynette's twins. They're 16 in this episode which means they would have been 11 at the end of season 4. And I'm pretty sure they were a lot younger than that. It doesn't make sense.

Heavily flawed, but as gripping as ever
pinkblueberrycat5 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
There are some odd writing decisions here.

Five years have passed and somehow Lynette's twin sons have aged about eight years. Huh?

Gabby is a sad, 'fat' (spoiler alert: she's actually tiny) mom to objectively fat kids, which is played for laughs. The fatphobia on display here was offensive when the episode originally aired (did anyone think what it might do to the poor girls' self esteem?), but it comes across even worse in 2022.

Criticisms aside, when you're five seasons into a show you're invested, and this season opener leaves me with a lot of questions that I want answered, and the only way I can get that done is by staying up way too late watching more episodes. Desperate Housewives was never the most PC show, but it excels in many areas. Creating intrigue is one of them!

Desperate Housewives : 5 Years Later
ichocolat27 October 2008
Warning: Spoilers
It's the Desperate Housewives, 5 years later. Much have change; not something unusual, since it is bound to be that way, especially because 5 years is quite a long time.

Gabby, who dislikes children and was persistent that the only kids she wants was her huge collection of shoes, now has a young daughter, named Juanita. And whilst she remains slim, her daughter is not. And yes, Gabby is still married to Carlos.

Bree is now a successful chef, running the show with her son..... and Katherine ! Now how bout that for the season starter ! Susan is no longer married with Mike, and has started meeting someone. Her house painter, no less !

This is one hell of season opener; so much questions, so much drama. It sure suggests a good season as the mysteries unfolds, questions answered, and promised to be a good watch from start to finish !

The plot is complete garbage!!
georgialester8 December 2020
I'm 10 seconds into this episode and I have so many questions. Mike and Susan were supposed to spend the rest of their lives together with their new son Maynard, and now she hooks up with her painter??? Like what the hell?? My heart literally sank. And how all of a sudden Gabby and Carlos decide to have kids when they were completely set on not having any?? Where's the explanation for that??? This has disappointed me so much I'm entirely done with this show.

Don't like it!
Just-A-Girl-1423 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Seriously?! Mike and Susan are apart again?? For three seasons we watched them on and off over and over again. They finally got married and almost immediately had problems because of Mike's addiction to painkillers. Then they had a child and we don't get to see them raising him happily for even five minutes?! It's getting really annoying and it makes Susan look real bad, changing men every five minutes... Now she's sleeping with her house painter... Super (eye roll)... Couldn't the car accident happen to Tom and Lynette? That would have been a lot more interesting than seeing Mike dealing with killing someone AGAIN! Sorry, I do NOT like it! Lazy writing!

As for the rest of the characters, it's mostly alright although nothing too exciting. Bree and Katherine has a new business and they don't really get along (what else is new?!), Tom and Lynette are dealing with an older troublemaking twins (what a surprise!) and Gabby and Carlos have two daughters. I'm not sure how that happened considering they were broke and Gabby didn't want children but I'm not loving the fact that her daughters are fat. It could have been a lot funnier if her daughters were tiny little divas. Not sure why a supermodel would let her four year old look so big that she seems twice her age. Weird.

Not a good start for a fifth season. Doesn't seem like they have anything new to keep us interested.

Oh and btw, it's so obvious who Dave is that it's painful to watch. Seriously.

I'll give it a few more episodes but I'm not loving the start and I highly doubt this season is even worth watching.
