Prey for the Beast: Another dreadful Brain Damage film
Platypuschow10 July 2018
I didn't mind Brain Damage films once upon a time, I mean yeah sure they're low budget, look terrible, the acting is dire and..........wait where was I going with this?

They were niche and though they were honestly pretty terrible at least a few had redeeming qualities. Sadly over the years these have diminished and Prey for the Beast is a fantastic example.

It tells the story of a bunch of guys who go on a camping trip into the woods to catch up only to find themselves getting picked off one by one by a gigantic hairy creature.

Being a Brain Damage film it looks awful and unsurprisingly so does the monster. The cast are dreadful, the writing is laughable and since it's a Brett Kelly film it's even directed poorly.

Prey for the Beast is one of those movies that is best suited playing in the background of a party strictly for "Point of laugh" reasons.

Dreadful through and through.

The Good:

Not, no and nope

The Bad:

Naff kills

Cinematography ranges from bad to embarassing

Stock screams, lots of them

Inconsistent characters

Awful finale

Just bad across the board

Things I Learnt From This Movie:

No matter how much you yell Jesus he won't come

The best friends are the ones who don't even hesitate when it comes to putting you out of your misery, right?!

More of a laugher than a horror flick!
ccunning-7358712 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
More of a laugher than a horror flick! Don't waste your time on this one, it's an hour of your life that you will not get back. As usual in these cheesy horror (sic!) flicks everyone does everything stupid wrong. Early on a photographer wants an up close and personal photo of this killer monster... The obvious happens. The photographer's guide/security empties a magazine into the monster with no results, later a guy pumps 10mm into the monster with no effect, but at the end of the movie a 90 pound, weenie armed girl hits the monster with a machete and kills it! Dah!!! This movie must have been the results of liberal, anti-male females... The monster looks like an American buffalo Minotaur, with the buffalo hump, head, and hooked horns (on the side of the mouth). Somehow this huge animal/monster can climb and move through the trees like a squirrel with total silence and silently move through heavy brush to sneak up and grab the campers. The campers, throughout the movie go out on their own, even after agreeing to stay together for safety, and the obvious happens... The guys, for the better part, are dumb dweebs, and the girls, for the better part, are domineering, controlling, anti-male rage girls. Dope, homo girls, hostility towards men, and at the end girl faces the monster with a machete & defeats the monster... Yes, a liberal woman's movie...

Brett Kelly please Quit!
johns608712 October 2016
Brett Kelly for the love of cinema around the world please just quit already!

I am one hundred percent serious and I am begging you right now to please stop making your awful movies. You are a terrible writer and director, proved by all your movies not one of them is above the level of "terrible"...

Why are you even doing this? Have you somehow lied to yourself so much in the mirror that you think you are actually able to write and direct and act in a movie? You suck, you just suck I don't know how else to say it.

Go and get a job a real job that will pay I'm sure more than these movies you tape on what looks like an old VCR camera with sound recorded in a tin can in a well.

I think I have been clear enough but all you do is make these garbage movies and package them to try to trick people into actually buying them when they are all ripoffs of actual movies and not good or funny ones at that.

I wouldn't even call what you do "movies"... I mean that seriously. Not trying to make you feel bad I'm just seriously saying what you do is wasting your life but also if you love cinema please realise what you are doing is ruining cinema for the rest of us... Your movies are the worst.

Catacomb of Creepshows 17 (of 50) or Pray for a better movie
movieman_kev3 October 2012
A ferocious beast kills whomever goes into the woods. All one really needs to know. How's that for pithy?? Not one of the better films in this box set.

I didn't care for any of the creature fodder and caring about these idiots isn't really the main crux of this film anyway. It's all about the kill, but on this too the film stumbles as the death scenes are lackluster. The monster looks like something that could readily be bought as one of the (admittedly more expensive) costumes in Halloween Adventure shops across America and anytime he wasn't on I couldn't even stifle my yawns. Brett Kelly has proved that he's a capable low-budget director but one wouldn't realize it watching this one.

If you go down to the woods today... You know whats going to happen as we've seen this before many times over
CorblimeyGuvnors1 February 2015
Brett Kelly directed, wrote the story and starred in this.

Four friends go to a secluded woods to have some man time after one of them has split from his wife due to her having an affair. Along the way they meet a monster that terrorizes them. Well, the woods do not seem that secluded as four girls have the same idea of a camping trip and happen to be in the same vicinity, and of course there are the two previous campers they find half dead after being attacked by the monster. So not really secluded at all !!!!

One thing that I found irritating. Halfway through the party talk about getting out of the woods before it gets dark. Well darkness never comes. in fact the sun is so bright it looks like midday.

Why is it in films like this people say "don't go off on your own" and then immediately some one says "I gotta go a pee"!!

Actual shots from a helicopter add some thought of a bit of a budget, along with a decent monster and effects. But really we have seen this all before. If you watch this on the Catacomb of Creepshow box set, then I watched into the woods (two films ago) and this is very similar. Also similar to many "bigfoot" films.

I was not bored during this and it did keep me entertained. So not all bad. Just a bit clichéd really.

Brett Kelly appears to have made quite a few films and is still churning them out today, not all indie film makers can say this can they? So good luck to him in the future.

It Surprised Me!
MyjavaGurl4 May 2011
I watched this on a bored day and knowing it was a B movie. I was really surprised by this film. I was curious in watching on of Brett Kellys movies, Prey for the Beast is my first film of his to watch (on Youtube).

The film has very interesting characters and very good acting. Two of the girls actually acted awful but most of them pretty decent jobs. Brett Kelly played his role well. I wan't a little more gore and creative kills, but it does give you about two good kills a lot of screen or the same kill.

My favorite thing about this was the editing style and camera shots of the forest. The creature looks fairly well for the budget, they shouldn't of showed at as much though.

Check it out when you have a chance, if your into B movie horror that it is.
