12th Fail
Just when the talented Vikrant Massey was becoming typecast as the supportive husband in heroine-centric film he delivers an exceptional performance in an author-backed role as an Ias aspirant from the Chambal Valley who journeys from a failed student to a successful civil servant.
That this moving and inspiring film is based on true facts makes it all the more commendable. Vinod Chopra who has helmed a series of duds in recent years including the anaemic film on Kashmiri Pundits Shikara, directs this heartfelt homage to the never-say-die spirit with an unwavering sincerity.
This is Chopra’s best film in years. It is a motivational film but not swamped by its urge to make a statement. Shot in real locations the actors are well chosen, each furnishing a heft to his or her part without making it look like a favour to human kind.
Vikrant Massey anchors the moving motion picture.

The much awaited new release of the week, ?Imtiaz Ali directed ?Kartik-Sara starrer, Love Aaj Kal, embarked on a good to decent start of 20-25 percent. The collections were boosted further due to the Valentine day crowd. The first day appears to be around the 12-13 crore mark.
Having said that, the film has seen mixed reviews and so the second day (Saturday) onwards as well as the weekday(s) trend will decide the fate of the film.
Meanwhile, after a decent weekend (25 crore), the Aditya Roy Kapoor and Disha Patani starrer, Malang, saw a good weekdays run as it netted 38-40 during the first week, ?and even a half decent second week will help the film manage a success tag.?
The other release of the same week as Malang, Vinod Chopra?s Shikara, a love story with the plight of the Kashmiri Pandits as the backdrop, failed to appeal...

Shikara
Starring Adil Khan, Sadia
Directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra
Vinod Chopra is no stranger to the theme of love during the time of war. He walked down the same road in 1942: A Love Story with the incandescent Manisha Koirala and the buoyant Anil Kapoor riding the crest of romance on the wings of R D Burman’s timeless melody.
Now in Shikara, as Chopra returns to the theme with far less satisfying results than the enormity of the plot would suggest, the music is not quite the stuff epic dreams are made of.
Think about it. 60,000 families were rendered homeless overnight. Forced to flee from their homes, Kasmiri Hindus were left with only their memories. Some like Shiv, the hero of Shikara, were lucky to have their life partners with them as they struggled to come to terms with their lives as refugees in their own country.

Immediate reaction when the end credits roll
From 1994 ( 1942: A Love Story)? to 2020 (Shikara), the prolific Vidhu Vinod Chopra?s picturesquely poetic way of telling a love story remains intact.
The Story of Shikara
Based on the most inhuman incident in India when thousands of Kashmiri Hindus (pandits) were forced to evacuate their homes by the separatists group who are against the Indian government. Shikara is the story of Shiv (Aadil Khan) and Shanti (Sadia) who meet during a film shoot and luckily get casted as a Kashmiri couple walking hand in hand in the backdrop.

1.??Vidhu Vinod Chopra ? This master director-producer has directed some of the most iconic films like Parinda, 1942 A Love Story and Mission Kashmir. He is directing a film in India after 13 years since his last film Eklavya. He has spent 11 years making this sensitive film despite many advising him against it.
2.?The Untold Story ? more than 400,000 Kashmiri Hindu Pandits had to forcibly leave their houses overnight due to religious persecution. These people continue to live as refugees in their own country. No media, political party or public at large came to their rescue or support. Their truth remains either denied or silenced. Shikara is, for the first time, bringing this to the mainstream consciousness.
3.?Real Refugees in Shikara ? Over 4000 real Kashmiri Pandit Refugees from Jagti refugee camp have acted in the film and recreated the real scenes of the exodus as it happened in 1990. This is the first time in...
