Who's nailin' Sookie?
lastliberal27 October 2008
Sookie started this episode upset over the alleged loss of her first love. Things have a way of working out and a graveyard scene was the highlight of the show.

Anna Paquin just gets better every week. This is her show and she shows it at the end where she is helping the vampires find out who stole their money.

Jason (Ryan Kwanten) seems to be settling down with his new girl Amy (Lizzy Caplan), but we are left wondering what kind of trouble she has gotten him in with the gay vampire.

Tara (Rutina Wesley) cannot believe the change in her mother, so she finally takes the big step. I can't wait to see that.

There is so much going on that one wishes it were daily instead of weekly.

I hate using the number keys to type...
Chalice_Of_Evil31 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Don't ever bother trying to text Bill Compton...he just hates those number keys.

This episode was kind of average when compared with the episodes that had come before it. However, there were some okay/interesting/good bits here and there, scattered throughout. First thing...so vampires in a burning building turn into bloody sludge, huh? Interesting (and nasty!). Although it was obvious that Bill was still alive, I wondered if we were going to even get to see him in this episode (since it seemed so long before he turned up). When he did finally turn up, though - whoa. Talk about dirty sex (I liked Sookie asking him not to bite her neck - so as to avoid people seeing it like the last time he bit her - and Bill accommodating her wish). Bill's and Sookie's scenes were about the only ones I was really interested in during the episode. I especially felt sorry for Sookie when she was cleaning her floor and flashed back to mopping up her grandmother's blood. Given all that she's gone through (losing her Gran, then thinking she'd lost Bill too - and no one being there for her), I was understanding her lack of patience with people and her snapping at them.

I wondered what was up with Bill sitting at the breakfast table, with sunlight clearly beaming in on him (for a minute I thought, "Surely, the creators of this show aren't gonna pull an 'Angel' and let the rather glaring mistake of sunlight hitting a vampire's skin - and it having no effect - just simply slip by."). I should have twigged to it being a dream straight away, and not just chalked it up to being a mistake. Of course, once he started burning and burst into flames, that made it pretty obvious we were in Sookie Stackhouse Dreamland. Interesting how he described to Sookie, later on, how the whole death-by-sunlight thing actually works for the vamps in this show. It's odd that we haven't actually *seen* any vamp deaths on screen as yet, but hey, maybe we'll get to see a vamp die at the start of the next episode (given how this one ended). Speaking of, nice to see the vamps at Fangtasia put Sookie's psychic ability to good use, interrogating.

I liked Sam's story about being from a long line of Nudists (sorry..."Naturists"). Of course, he totally made it up, but still...good for a laugh. He also remains one of the best characters in the show.

Haven't got much else to say about this episode, other than the Jason/Amy storyline bored me (After Arlene had said, in reference to meeting Amy, "Sam! I think we found a replacement for Dawn.", and Sookie said to Jason, "Looks like you did too." - I loved seeing her sticking it to him like that. He fully deserved it), Tara was back to being MASSIVELY annoying again (the way she was looking to pick a fight with poor Sam was especially irritating), and I liked seeing Bill and Sookie babysitting Arlene's kids. Usually, kids bug the crap out of me in shows/movies, but seeing Bill act like a nice ordinary fun polite guy with them made it a good scene. Also, Sookie's always happiest when she's with other people who accept Bill just like she does (at least the kids keep an open mind when it comes to vampires). I enjoy seeing Sookie happy in the show, like after she'd found out Bill was alive (and how!), which made her be all chipper and perky at Merlotte's the next day.

I Shot The Sheriff
skay_baltimore18 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Jason: "I feel like the whole world came together. Me...you...the bed...the house...were all one big giant..."

Amy: "Organism".

Jason: "Yeah...mine was huge".

-------------------------------------------------------

Sookie: "Watch your feet...I just waxed."

Tara: "I hope you mean the floor".

-------------------------------------------------------

Eddie Gauthier:"I bought this 'specially for you. I remember you said...'You go for merlot'."

LaFayette: "I said I worked at Merlotte's."

Oh yeah...that's some seriously Funny stuff!!!

--------------------------------------------------------

And hey...is it just me...or was I the only one who didn't know that possum penises had two prongs and were excellent good luck charms?

Sam comes up with a cover story for why he was running naked through the woods -- he comes from a long line of "naturalists". Unfortunately, Andy checks out Sam's story, which doesn't check out.

Amy's not quite so cool and laid back when she starts Jonesing for some V.

Nice turnaround for Lettie Mae now that her demon's been exorcised. (Speaking of exorcise...I need to start walking more again. But I digress...)

Tara is inspired by her mother's change enough to visit the exorcist herself. But there's a price to be paid: ("$799.95") (Next week's teaser)

And...if you ever had a burning desire to see what a dirty old vampire Eddie is...this would be the episode.

We learn that Eric is the sheriff of Area 5 (it's a position of great power among the vamps), and as long as his requests are reasonable it's a good idea to accede to his wishes. But Bill and all his "you're MINE" stuff is staring to get a bit old. When Sookie says something about Erik having no right to check her out like a library book, Bill's response seems to me like he's pimping her out. As it turns out...Eric wants to use Sookie's mind listening skills to see which of his employees is embezzling money from Fangtasia. It works...but it's messy business.

True Blood: The Fourth Man in the Fire
Scarecrow-8829 June 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Jesus Christ, I want to lick your mind.

Good golly, Miss Molly, this show just keeps getting better. Sookie is all bent out of shape over supposedly losing Bill to the house fire when in fact he's remained buried underground in the town cemetery. Tara sees that Lettie Mae has miraculously become an altogether different person since her "conversion". Tara contemplates an exorcism for herself. Sam makes up lies to Andy Bellefleur and cook Terry(Todd Lowe), witnesses of his running buck naked in the woods a morning ago. Sookie meets Amy and warns her of Jason's inabilities to maintain a relationship with anyone. Amy seems to have this enlightenment when under the spell of V. Amy is all happy-go-lucky, life is peaches and cream, until the V sensation wears away and the addiction kicks in. She will coerce Jason into following Lafayette to his vampire blood source in order to score some V directly from the vine(vein). Eric demands Bill "lend" Sookie's "services" to him, her thought reading ability to uncover the one responsible for stealing money from his bar. Sookie babysits for Arlene(Carrie Preston)and her boyfriend Rene(Michael Raymond-James)while they go out for a date(on this date he proposes to her)but she isn't too fond of the fact that Bill will be over the house with her. Arlene's kids, however, love Bill and think it's cool that he's a vampire.

I would like to take a moment to say that I'm thrilled that in the show the character of Terry has a developing story. Terry is a damaged soldier who served in Iraq and the experience has left him mentally scarred, although he's a decent and good man. I so admire that he is included because we need such a character on a show and why not on TRUE BLOOD. Anyway, we see that when the vampires perish, nothing but deep crimson remains. In this episode, Tara has a major argument with an angered Sookie, and she responds harshly to Sam after a round in the sack, not happy with a ridiculously minor complaint of her "athletic" grunt while they have sex. Oh, and this episode features renowned character actor Stephan Root as one of Lafayette's "johns", the supplier of V for homosexual sex. He will be the unfortunate victim of Amy who seems quite skilled and knowledgeable about how to subdue vampires, using a befuddled Jason as a partner in crime. I think the romanticized view of Amy was merely masking her true dark nature..it's revealed for the first time in this episode. To see Tara explode on Sookie, and vice versa, is the really the first time in the series that the two have had such a substantial falling out.

S1.E8 - Bill Is Alive! [9/10]
panagiotis19931 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(S1. E8) My Live Reaction / Review for True Blood Season 1 Episode 8 ''The Fourth Man in the Fire''. Episode 7 was good and I gave it a rating of 9/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. I really hope that the ''demon'' really left Tara's mom. Where the hell is Bill? Why was Bill buried though? Tara needs to chill, I feel like she is fighting with someone all the time, she is never calm. Could Sam be responsible for killing all these women? I don't trust him, there is something dark about him. What the hell? Now Jason and his girlfriends are torturing vampires to get the V? That's so messed up. Overall a really good episode, my rating is 9/10.

Alive and Sober
claudio_carvalho20 September 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Sookie goes to the cemetery to put flowers on Bill's grave and she discovers that he is alive. Jason and Amy follow Lafayette to see where he gets vampire blood and they abduct the gay vampire Eddie, locking him in the basement of Jason's house. Tara's mother is sober after the exorcism and having a normal behavior at home. Eric orders Bill to bring Sookie to Fangtasia to help him to discover who is embezzling the money of the cashier.

In this episode, Jason kidnaps a vampire to supply his blood and satisfy his addiction. In the second episode, Sookie drank vampire blood and found healing power with improvement of her senses. Why Jason and Amy have a trip with the blood? These properties are not clear for me. Tara is not happy with her behavior and is astonished with the behavior of her mother. And Sookie is in danger in Fangtasia, My vote is seven.

"Nice" people sometimes do bad things
Tweekums27 November 2009
Warning: Spoilers
After the cliffhanger ending last week I was fairly sure that the fourth body wouldn't be Bill... sure enough he was alive and well sleeping underground in the graveyard, conveniently Sookie was there when he emerged so they could have some outdoor sex. Meanwhile brother Jason is having a surprisingly non-sexual time with hippyish Amy, although this being "True Blood" she has taken her top off. It looks like Amy is going to help Jason control his V-habit and improve his general behaviour, however it turns out she is willing to take fairly extreme measures to get her hands on vampire blood.

Sam provides some nice comedy by explaining how his naked run through the woods was just his way of honouring the memory of his naturist parents, this story is soon disproved and he seems more suspicious than ever. It seems that Lettie Mae's visit to the exorcist has worked as she has returned to church and poured away her remaining booze surprisingly Tara doesn't seem that pleased, in fact she seems more angry than ever; perhaps she needs to seek similar help herself.

It is surprising how many good story threads they manage to cram in to one hour but with a good script and a fine cast they manage it well and keep each of the story lines interesting. I particularly liked Lizzy Caplan's portrayal of new character Amy, I hope she hangs around for a while.
