My hobby is watching and collecting movies on VHS and DVD. On 17 June 2003, I found the IMDB site through an indication of a friend. My first review was "Anazapta" and since then, when I finish watching a movie, I write my personal opinion about it.
I am eclectic, but my genre number 1 is horror. I see between 800 and 900 movies per year, including TV series ("Sex and the City", "Angel", "Buffy", "Six Feet Under", "Lost" etc.).
My favorite movie is "Casablanca" and it is hard to point out my favorite director, actor and actress. I usually do not read any review before seeing a movie, in order to be not influenced by the critics.
I am trying to list my favorite movies alphabetically ordered, but this list may change:

The Raven (1963)
Delightful Duel of Magicians
The magician Dr. Erasmus Craven (Vincent Price), who does not belong to the brotherhood of magicians, grieves the loss of his beloved wife Lenore (Hazel Court) and lives in a castle with his daughter Estelle (Olive Sturgess). One day, a raven knocks on his window and Dr. Craven learns that the bird is actually the magician Dr. Adolphus Bedlo (Peter Lorre) that was turned into a raven after challenging the powerful magician Dr. Scarabus (Boris Karloff) that was an enemy of his father. Dr. Craven makes a potion to turn Dr. Bedlo back to the human form and Dr. Bedlo tells that he has seen Lenore in the castle of Dr. Scarabus. Dr. Craven decides to go in his coach with Dr. Bedlo to visit Dr. Scarabus but Estella and Dr. Bedlo's son Rexford (Jack Nicholson) decide to go with them. They find an amicable Dr. Scarabus that invite them to stay for the night. Was Dr. Craven's father wrong about Dr. Scarabus?
"The Raven" is a delightful movie about ambition, treachery and magic, with a wonderful duel of magicians and lots of humor. The raven is hilarious and it is impressive his training with participation in many scenes. The special effects are simple but impressive for a 1963 movie. The cast is excellent with Vincent Price, Peter Lorre and Boris Karloff and it is curious to see Jack Nicholson in the beginning of his career. My vote is seven.

Stupid and Senseless Concept of Society
In a post-apocalyptic dystopia, the world is destroyed and only Chicago has survived with a society divided into five factions: Abnegation (the selfless), Amity (the peaceful), Candor (the honest), Dauntless (the brave), and Erudite (the intelligent). The teenager Beatrice Prior (Shailene Woodley) belongs to the Abnegation that rules the society but she fells outcast and attracted by the Dauntless. When she is sixteen years old, she is submitted to an aptitude test to indicate in which faction she will stay for the rest of her life, but she learns that she has aptitude to be in the Abnegation, Erudite and Dauntless. Further, she learns that she is a Divergent that is destroyed by the government. On the next day, she chooses to join the Dauntless where she changes her name to Tris and is trained by Four (Theo James). They fall in love with each other and soon Tris discovers that the Erudite are planning to take over the power from the Abnegation and become the ruling faction.
"Divergent" is an adventure movie with a dull and lame story based in a stupid and senseless concept of society. The dystopia does not make any sense and everything is idiotic in the story: the society, the plot, the romance, the way the Dauntless jump from the train, the conclusion. If there is a faction formed for the most intelligent people, it seems to be obvious that they should rule this chaotic society. Tris kills many soldiers but she leaves Jeanine alive in the end. My vote is five.

The Comedy of Terrors (1963)
Very Funny Comedy of Black Humor
The alcoholic director of the Hinchley & Trumbull Funeral Parlor Waldo Trumbull (Vincent Price) is a cheater that has married Amaryllis Trumbull (Joyce Jameson) in a marriage of convenience to get control of the business of her father Amos Hinchley (Boris Karloff). Trumbull has been using the same casket for more than thirteen years, dumping the corpses in their graves to resell the coffin. He also blackmails his only employee Felix Gillie (Peter Lorre) that had robbed a bank and is an abusive husband, threatening to poison his father-in-law and not allowing Amaryllis to sing. Gillie has a crush on Amaryllis and loves to hear her singing.
Trumbull owes more than one year of rental of his premise to Mr. John F. Black (Basil Rathbone) and he has no client. So he decides to improve his business killing Mr. Phipps (Buddy Mason) to get a new client. However his wife Mrs. Phipps (Beverly Hills) flees to Europe with all her possessions and does not pay for the funeral service. When Mr. Black duns his debts, Trumbull decides to kill him to make some money and resolve his financial problem. But Mr. Black is epileptic and his family wants to keep his body in a crypt instead of burying him in a grave. During the night, the Cemetery Keeper (Joe E. Brown) hears a cry and releases Mr. Black from the coffin in the beginning of a tragic night.
... "Comedy of Terrors" is a very funny comedy of black humor. The veterans Vincent Price, Peter Lorre, Boris Karloff and Basil Rathbone have incredibly comic performances. The movie begins hilarious before the credits and I laughed and repeated many scenes so funny they are. It is impossible to list the best scenes since there are many of them. My vote is seven.

Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies (2012)
OK, That's My Fault
During the American Civil War, Abraham Lincoln (Bill Oberst Jr.) realizes that there are zombies in the Confederate army and he organizes a small group of agents from the Secret Service to take over a fort in Savannah from the enemy to fight against the undead. He has to face not only the walking dead, but also Confederate soldiers, a traitor and his former love Mary Owens (Baby Norman).
I saw the IMDb rating of "Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies" and decided to watch this flick; therefore that is my fault. I was expecting to see a funny trash, but I found an awfully boring movie with no story, dreadful acting and cheap CGI. The lead actor is terrible and it might be sad and offensive for the American viewers to see the use the name of American personalities in such lame movie. My vote is two.

Blood Shed (2014)
Awful Is not Enough to Rate This Movie
"Blood Shed" is a low-budget movie with a story inside a self-storage facility that does not make any sense. The lead character is Gabriel, an epileptic young man that uses drugs for seizure and is living in his car. His stepbrother sends the key of a container in a self-storage facility in Los Angeles and tells that he might find the truth about his biological parents inside the container. Gabriel, who is dirty, unattractive, rude, homeless and penniless, meets the janitress Samira in the facility and she falls in love with him (love is beautiful, isn't it?). Meanwhile there is a deranged ghost hunting down the homeless people that spend the night in the storage. This is the first time that I see a crazy ghost. The plot point is that the ghost is Jezebel, who is Gabriel's mother. In the end, awful is not enough to rate this movie. My vote is two.
Title (Brazil): "A Chave do inferno" ("The Key from Hell")
Four bullies come to Trinity to sell Protection and they stay at the boarding house where Caleb and Dr. Matt Crower live. Caleb witnesses four man wearing masks of pig killing a local, drowning him in his bathtub. People believe that the strangers are working for Sheriff Lucas Buck that feels affected in his reputation. He meets Barrett and Lowell Stokes, Earl McKeever and Just Eddie at the boarding house porch and has a conversation with them. Soon Sheriff Buck decides to bring his own justice to Trinity.
"Strong Arm of the Law" is one of the best episodes of "American Gothic" so far and the first time that I cheer for the Sheriff Lucas Buck. His sense of justice is creepy and the conclusion is a ripoff of "Mad Max". My vote is nine.

Scream and Scream Again (1970)
In London, a serial-killer drains the blood of females and the Detective Superintendent Bellaver (Alfred Marks) and his team are hunting down the so-called Vampire Killer. Meanwhile in an undefined country that lives a military dictatorship, the cruel Konratz (Marshall Jones) is climbing positions killing The Power that Be. When the Vampire Killer flees from the police, he seeks refugee at the real estate of scientist Dr. Browning (Vincent Price) and jumps into a tank of acid. Dr. David Sorel (Christopher Matthews) is intrigued with the powerful acid and decides to get a sample. He finds the truth about the research of Dr. Browning.
Many years ago, during the Cold War, the dictatorships in South America, James Bond, Flint and The Man from U.N.C.L.E., "Scream and Scream Again" was a cult movie supported by the names of Vincent Price, Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. The story entwines mad scientist with vampire, dictatorship and spy ring with a terrible music score. However, in the present days it is a dated mess despite the great cast. My vote is three.
Title (Brazil): "Grite, Grite Outra Vez!" ("Scream, Scream Again")
The Oblong Box (1969)
The Man in the Crimson Hood
In the end of the Nineteenth Century, the aristocrat Edward Markham (Alister Williamson) is disfigured by sorcery in Africa by the natives. His brother Julian Markham (Vincent Price) brings him back to the Markham Manor in England and keeps him prisoner in the attic. The mad Edward asks his lawyer Trench (Peter Arne) and his partner to bring the African sorcerer N'Galo (Harry Baird) in secret to heal him but Julian does not allow any contact with his brother. Trench and N'Galo simulate the death of Edward to remove him from the attic in a coffin. However, body snatchers bring his body to the unscrupulous Dr. Newhartt (Christopher Lee) for his research. Edward offers a large amount to Dr. Newhartt to stay hidden in his house and wears a crimson hood to hide his face. When Edward goes to the town, his mask brings problem to him and he begins a series of murders. When he finally meets N'Galo, he finds why the natives have deformed him and he seeks revenge.
"The Oblong Box" is a dark horror movie based on a story by Edgar Allan Poe. The screenplay keeps the story interesting until the end and the cast has two icons of the genre - Vincent Price and Christopher Lee. The sets and the atmosphere are stylish and adequate for the story. My vote is seven.

American Gothic: Meet the Beetles (1995)
The Bug Chamber
Caleb is showing Boone his house that was burnt to the ground and his legs stumbles with a skeleton under some timbers of the house. He calls Gail and Dr. Matt and they bring the bones to the coroner. Coach Fred Bender hits on Selena and Lucas interferes. Lucas tells to Selena that Hack Weller is reported missing by his wife. Lucas visits Curtis Z. Webb that identifies the bones as Hack. But the problem is that he played golf with the victim three days ago. When Lucas returns to his office, he meets Hack's brother-in-law Lieutenant Drey of the State Police that has come to Trinity to investigate the case. Drey has learned that Hack had hit on Selena Coombs, who is the sheriff's girlfriend, and he threatens Sheriff Lucas Buck if he is involved in the disappearance of Hack. Drey meets Selena and is seduced by her. Caleb finds a gravestone with his name and he decides to open the grave. Out of the blue, Lucas appears at the grave and tells to Caleb that there is money inside the coffin to rebuild his former family house that now belongs to Lucas. Soon Couch Fred Bender is murdered and also disappears, and Lucas becomes the prime suspect of Lieutenant Drey. Who is killing Selena's fans?
First of all, the previous episode ("Potato Boy") is not included in the DVD Box "American Gothic The Complete Series". "Meet the Beetles" is a creepy episode with the scary Bug Chamber in the Trinity Museum of natural History. I researched in Internet and found in the Smithsonian.com that museums indeed use beetle chambers to reduce birds that have tiny and fragile skeletons that might be damaged by chemicals to their skeletal frames for scientific research and education. My vote is nine.

Concrete Canyons (2010)
Surprisingly Good for a TV Movie
In Greeley County, Colorado, the former Sheriff Ben Sloane (Scott Patterson) is an efficient tracker that lives in an isolated cabin in the middle of the woods. After rescuing a young woman that has been abducted, Ben meets Sheriff Darryl Carter (Aaron Pearl) tells to him that his estranged son Nick (Andrew Dunbar) is the prime suspect of killing his co-worker Raymond "Ray" Correlli.
Ben heads to Chicago to meet the unfriendly Detective Susan Kincaid (Polly Shannon) that does not help him. Soon Ben learns that Nick is married with Maggie (Emilie Ullerup) and has a baby son; he worked in the Stetski Brothers Constructor and studied architecture at college. Ben also meets Nick's friend Danny Smalls (Chad Krowchuk) that tells to him that his job was indicated by his professor Hoffman (Ted Whittall). Ben goes to the crime scene and finds that Nick did not kill Ray and the crime scene was modified and he suspects that the construction company is hiding something. Will Ben be capable to find tracks to prove the innocence of his son?
The beginning of "Concrete Canyons" is engaging and despite the typical clichés of Kincaid and Nick reactions and the corny conclusion, it is enjoyable. The plot gets too complicated with a mafia scheme and is easily resolved in the end but the performances in general are good. I saw this movie with low expectation and I find it surprisingly good for a TV movie. My vote is six.
