My hobby is watching and collecting movies on VHS and DVD. On 17 June 2003, I found the IMDB site through an indication of a friend. My first review was "Anazapta" and since then, when I finish watching a movie, I write my personal opinion about it.
I am eclectic, but my genre number 1 is horror. I see between 800 and 900 movies per year, including TV series ("Sex and the City", "Angel", "Buffy", "Six Feet Under", "Lost" etc.).
My favorite movie is "Casablanca" and it is hard to point out my favorite director, actor and actress. I usually do not read any review before seeing a movie, in order to be not influenced by the critics.

Dead Rising (2015)
Looking Forward for the Sequel
In East Mission, Oregon, the Hit Point reporter Chase Carter (Jesse Metcalfe) and the camerawoman Jordan (Keegan Connor Tracy) are covering stories from the people in quarantine of a zombie outbreak. The FEZA is using the vaccine Zombrex to inoculate the victims and Chase tries to interview Crystal LaRourke (Meghan Ory) that is on the location. Out of the blue, the patients turn into zombies and Jordan flees with the Hit Point car, leaving Chase behind. He follows Crystal chased by zombies and she stumbles upon Maggie (Virginia Madsen), a woman in shock that has just lost her daughter. They seek shelter in a loan store while Jordan arrives in the border but is sent to quarantine. While the military under the command of General Lyons (Dennis Haysbert) want to bomb the city since Zombrex is ineffective, Chase, Crystal and Maggie fight to reach the border. Chase discovers a secret about Crystal while Jordan discloses the real intention of General Lyons.
"Dead Rising: Watchtower" is a funny and entertaining zombie adventure based on a video game. Unfortunately there is no conclusion of the story and it seems that a sequel will be made. My vote is six.

The Returned (2013)
Great Zombie Movie
After a zombie outbreak, the infected people survive due to a vaccine made of the the spinal fluid of dead zombies and they are called "Returned". Dr. Kate (Emily Hampshire) works in a hospital and is responsible for the wing of Returned". There is a rumor that the vaccine is running out and Kate secretly buys vaccines from Eve (Melina Matthews), who is the responsible for the storeroom. Kate's beloved husband, the musician Alex (Kris Holden-Ried), was infected and only Kate and Alex's brother Jacob (Shawn Doyle) and his wife Amber (Claudia Bassols) knows. When the vaccine runs out, the government brings the infected people to quarantine centers while research a synthetic vaccine. However, Alex and Kate flee to Jacob's house in the countryside expecting that Alex survives until the synthetic vaccine becomes reality. But when Alex's wallet is stolen, Kate's last hope is to get some vaccines from the director of the hospital where she works. Will she succeed?
"The Returned" is among the best zombie movies with a dramatic and credible story and outstanding direction and performances. The behavior of the human beings feeling despair for the situation with beloved ones is impressive and realistic. The dark conclusion is predictable but also perfect. My vote is eight.

Stargate SG-1: The Tok'ra: Part 2 (1998)
So Far, One of the Best Episodes
Sam offers his father to blend with the Tok'ra that is dying so that his healing ability saves General Jacob. Garshaw lets Sam and Jack return to Earth to convince General Jacob to accept the offer. Meanwhile the Goa'uld spaceships are attacking the Tok'ra and they need to flee to another planet. When Jack returns with Sam and her father, he suspects that a traitor is in contact with the Goa'uld and he helps to find the responsible. Will the terminal General Jacob Carter succeed in hosting the weak Goa'uld?
"The Tok'ra: Part 2" is so far, one of the best episodes of "Stargate SG- 1". The screenplay has action entwined with drama and is engaging to the very end. My vote is nine.

Stargate SG-1: The Tok'ra: Part 1 (1998)
Meeting the Tok'ra
Sam has glimpses of Jolinar and the Tok'ra in a cave in her brain and the SG-1 convinces General Hammond to go to a planet to meet the Tok'ra and propose an alliance against the Goa'uld. The SG-1 arrives in a desert area and soon they are surprised by the Tok'ra that are hidden under the sand. Sam recognizes Martouf and explains that she has Jolinar's partial memories, while Jack asks a meeting with their leader. The Tok'ra bring them to underground tunnels where they meet Garshaw of Belote. The SG-1 and the Tok'ra are suspicious with each other and the SG-1 does not accept to host a Goa'uld. Soon the SG-3 appears in the planet to summon Sam to visit her father that is terminal, but the earthlings are not allowed to return to the SG Command.
"The Tok'ra: Part 1" is a predictable episode of "Stargate SG-1". What the SG-1 would expect from the alien Tok'ra that are hunted down by the Goa'uld? A welcome party? They come to a planet without anything to offer but good faith to a resistance group. My vote is six.

Messy, Pointless and Boring
After a chemical war, the technicians Bauer (Norman Reedus) and Cartwright (Djimon Hounsou) are responsible for keeping working chambers with prominent persons in suspended animation that have been selected to build a post-apocalypse society in an underground facility. Cartwright has moments of insanity talking to his mate Abby (Sandrine Holt) while performing the maintenance procedure. When his chamber is accidentally damaged, he decides to use the breathing apparatus to seek spare parts in a nearby facility, but he discloses a terrible secret. Meanwhile Bauer rewind the footages inside the facility and discovers that Cartwright is planning to kill him.
"Air" is a deceptive low budget movie with a messy, pointless and boring story. The dialogs are dull and there are basically two characters. After the end of the film, it is difficult to write a summary of the confused story. The cult-actor Norman Reedus from "The Walking Dead" and his agent should select better screenplays. My vote is three.

Promising Beginning, Deceptive Conclusion
Nick Di Santo (Luke Kleintank) has the gift to see how any person that he touches will dies. He visits his mother Lilian (Lesley-Anne Down) that is in an asylum since when he was eight years old and learns that his father is alive. Nick lives with his best friend Ryan (Anthony Rey) and one day he meets Eve (Alex McKenna) in a bar and he finds that he can touch her without any vision. Eve moves to Nick's apartment and soon she is pregnant. Out of the blue, Nick inherits an old house and he shows to Ryan and Eve that he used to draw that house since he was a child. They travel to the countryside but they do not find the manor. They decide to return home and they meet Chris McCulluch (Zack Ward), Lilith (Lacey Anzelc) and Sam (Ethan S. Smith) that are measuring the area. They show the location of the house where Nick meets the strange Seth (Tobin Bell). They are hunted down by creepy creatures with axes but they flee. They decide to leave the place but the road leads them back to the mysterious house. What is the secret of the dark house and the creepy creatures?
"Haunted" is a horror film with a promising beginning in the style of "The Twilight Zone". However when the group stumbles upon the house that moved to another place, the plot becomes a complete mess. The deceptive conclusion is awful. My vote is four.

Surprisingly Good Little Gem
In 1899, in Australia, Alice May Richards (Tushka Bergen) is the daughter of the horse breeder James Richards (Frederick Parslow), who is the owner of the ranch Minnamurra. Alice has a crush on the wrangler Jack Donaghue (Steven Vidler) and the wealthy trader Ben Creed (Jeff Fahey) has an unrequited love with her. James is in a bad economical situation and his despicable neighbor Allenby (Shane Briant) wishes to buy his real state, but he does not accept the offer. Meanwhile Donaghue associates to a man called Bill Thompson (Richard Moir) to convince his neighbors to give money to raise a league of horse breeders of their own. Creed uses his company to secretly help James while Alice is sent to the house of her aunt to learn good manners. Creed decides to investigate Thompson and finds that he is a con man and he warns his neighbors and Donaghue becomes his enemy; however Thompson flees with their money and Donaghue's reputation is ruined. Out of the blue, James dies and Alice returns home and learns the financial condition of her family. Alley uses his henchmen to blow-up Creed's cargo leading his company to bankruptcy and buying the mortgage of Minnamurra that belonged to Creed from the bank. Now the only chance for Alice to keep her family property is selling the horses to the British army. But she needs the help of Creed and Donaghue to take the animals to the British ship in a short time. Further, both men love her and with whom will she stay?
The unknown "Minnamurra", a.k.a. "Wrangler", is a surprisingly good romance with western that takes place in the turn of the Twentieth Century in Australia. The story is engaging and full of action, with the battle of a scummy wealthy rancher against a family of horse breeders and his neighbors. There are breathless scenes with horses and great performances of the cast. My vote is seven.

Creepy and Dark
The architect James Yang (Jason Chang) returns to Taiwan after living for twenty years in England since he has inherited a family home. He learns that the old seventy year-old house has been empty for twenty years. James invites his girlfriend Yo (Terri Kwan), who is a dancer, to move in together with him to the house. Their friends Yi-Chen (Yu-chen Chang) and Cheng mysteriously appear in the house with no memory of how they arrived there. Soon Cheng is found dead in his bathtub and a snoopy detective suspects of Yi-Chen. He decides to stay in the house, but strange events happen also to him. Yi-Chen decides to investigate the only relative alive in the Yang family and goes to an asylum to interview James' Aunt Sue Yang. She learns a dark secret about the Yang family. Will she find who is haunting the house?
"The Heirloom" is a creepy and dark Taiwanese horror movie with a story based on a Chinese legend of dead children ghosts fed with blood and raised to bring fortune to the family. This legend is totally unknown to Westerns and maybe this might be the reason why this film is underrated in IMDb. However, the screenplay is well-written; the direction of Leste Chen is effective, supported by good performances of the gorgeous Terri Kwan and Jason Chang and beautiful cinematography. My vote is seven.

All That Money Can Buy (1941)
In 1840 in New Hampshire, the unfortunate farmer Jabez Stone (James Craig) is a poor but good man that lives a simple and hard life with his beloved wife Mary Stone (Anne Shirley) and his mother "Ma" (Jane Darwell). One day of bad luck, Jabez curses and tells that he would sell his soul to the devil to have a better life; immediately after the devil appears posing of a man named Mr. Scratch (Walter Huston). He offers seven years of good fortune and money to Jabez for his soul and the farmer signs the contract. Soon Jabez improves his life and after a hailstorm, his crop are the only one not damaged. Jabez borrows money to his neighbors and soon Mary gets pregnant. When she delivers the baby Daniel, she asks her prominent friend Daniel Webster (Edward Arnold) to be his godfather. Meanwhile Jabez is charmed by the gorgeous Belle (Simone Simon) and he hires her as a maid and soon she becomes his mistress. Jabez does not know that Belle was sent by Mr. Scratch and soon he becomes an evil man. After seven years, Mr. Scratch returns to collect his soul and offers an addition period for the soul of his sin. Jabez realizes that he is doomed but Daniel Webster offers to defend him in a trial. What will happen to Jabez and his family?
"The Devil & Daniel Webster", a.k.a. "All That Money Can Buy", retells the timeless German classic story of Faust, a man that sells his soul to Mephistopheles. The film has not aged after more than seventy years. The dance of Belle with her guests is eerie and seems to be the source of inspiration of the dance in "Carnival of Souls". Walter Huston and Edward Arnold have great performances in the roles of Mr. Scratch and Edward Arnold respectively. My vote is seven.

Taxi Driver (1976)
Bleak and Depressive
The former marine Travis Bickle (Robert DeNiro) is insomniac and decides to work as taxi driver in the night shift. Travis is a lonely uneducated man that spends his leisure time watching porn films in the theaters. When Travis sees the gorgeous Betsy (Cybill Shepherd) working as a volunteer in the campaign for president of Senator Charles Palantine (Leonard Harris), he has a crush on her. He invites Betsy to drink coffee with him and later he dates her. However he takes her to see a porn Swedish movie and she feels offended and leaves him. Travis unsuccessfully sends flowers for her but she rejects him. Travis meets the young prostitute Iris (Jodie Foster) that is trying to flee from her pimp Sport (Harvey Keitel) in his taxi but Sport takes her from the car. Travis also buys several weapons from a dealer and practices shooting. When he meets Iris again, he is resolute to help her. Will Travis succeed in his intent?
"Taxi Driver" is a bleak and depressive film directed by Martin Scorsese about lowlifes and losers in New York. The lead character is an unstable taxi driver poorly educated and capable to bring his date to watch porn film since he does not know any other genre. Robert DeNiro has magnificent performance and Jodie Foster is amazing in the role of a twelve year-old prostitute. My vote is eight.
