Daria goes babysitting
Tweekums31 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Quinn has arranged a date on the same night she has agreed to babysit for the Gupty family. She asks Daria to do it but she declines... until Helen mentions that she wants her daughters to attend a couples' get together with her and Jake. When Daria gets to the Gupty house it looks as if she might have made a mistake; it isn't a bad family; in fact quite the opposite is the case... they are saccharine sweet; not sugar; sugar is bad it rots your teeth. The parents clearly have some very twee ideas and have produced two perfectly behaved but incredibly boring children. A phone call to Jane helps though and together the two start deprogramming them! This fits in perfectly with the assignment Daria had to write about cults! Meanwhile Quinn has been made to confront her commitment issues; to this end she has been given a personal organiser... it is just a shame her date reads her plans in it.

This was a pretty good episode; the kids were so perfect they were creepy which made it a delight when Daria corrupted them with modified fairy tales and letting the watch mud wrestling on TV... after Jane had fixed it so it could get more than the weather channel. Quinn's story wasn't as interesting but it still provided a few chuckles. Further laughs were provided by my favourite Lawndale Teacher; Mr DeMartino.

Would you want Daria babysitting your kids? I sure would!

Warning: Spoilers
Quinn is in a pinch. She is overbooked with dates (as usual) and cannot babysit for a family. In a pinch, she bribes Daria to do it for her--who isn't eager considering that she knows nothing about kids and is a bit scared of them. This turns out to be prophetic, as the family she sits for is really weird--I am talking Stepford Wives, Ned Flanders and Al Gore put together weird! Daria is stuck--she has no idea what to do with the kids and in a pinch asks Jane for her help.

In a side plot related to the other, Quinn and Helen do some bonding by attending a class on using a day planner (like a Franklin) and both mother and daughter become cult members! To try out this new organization, Quinn now puts all her dating on the planner--something she later comes to regret.

Overall, a pretty good episode. And, if you like the freaky kids, they will return later in the series. Well written.

No real nuanced ending - kind of predictable

Warning: Spoilers
I'm a huge fan of Daria, having first watched it back in the late 90s. A post 9/11 Daria would be interesting to ponder, and a legion of fans would be keen to understand her views on same-sex marriage, affirmative action, building a wall, religious freedom, international trade, racial profiling, Pokemon Go, and safe spaces.

Anyway, I thought the ending was a bit bittersweet. Okay, okay, the kids learned to swear (how new, original and riotous) after being "corrupted" or babysat by Daria and Jane. And for what? To demonstrate politically incorrect babysitting by Daria and Jane?

Anyway, maybe MTV can consider a reboot of Daria, with Daria being voiced by Janeane Garofalo.
