It may be the modern 1970s, but old fashioned notions still abound

Warning: Spoilers
Chrissy's minister father is coming to town for a visit. Chrissy is in a bit of a panic because she hasn't told him their former roommate Eleanor has been replaced by Jack. Well, the reverend isn't going to approve of his daughter sharing an apartment with a man no matter how strictly platonic they profess it is. I mean, they could never convince even non-clerics like Mr Roper (and later, Mr Furley) there's no "hanky panky" without Jack pretending to be gay. Anyway, the solution is to pretend Jack and Janet are husband and wife and all the usual hilarity that ensues whenever the trio try to play out a ruse. Reverend Snow can handle his daughter living with a married couple, but he isn't thrilled their marriage was at city hall and not by a man of the cloth. Well, he offers to perform the ceremony himself. Eventually it all comes out and daddy is pissed and demands his little girl move back home immediately. Luckily some words by Jack convince the reverend all is well here and daddy gives his "okay" to Chrissy's current living arrangement.

What's fascinating is the view of an unmarried adult woman living on her own, working, paying her bills is still a novelty and not considered an appropriate lifestyle...Mary Tyler Moore be damned. Chrissy is seriously concerned if her father finds out about her living situation, she will have to abide by his orders to return home as if she is still a child. Now one can say "he's a minister, of course he's ultra conservative". However, this scenario played out again in season five when Janet's parents come to visit. She led them to believe she was married to Jack, otherwise she was going to be expected to come back home. In spite of all the envelope pushing sex jokes and innuendo on this show, Chrissy and Janet were still just their "daddy's little girl".

"Hey, level with me, was my operation a success?"

Warning: Spoilers
Chrissy is dismayed to learn that her father, a Reverend (Peter Mark Richman, "Agent for H. A. R. M."), is coming to town for a sermon. She knows that, with him being a conservative, old-fashioned type, that he won't approve of her current living situation. The roommates' initial plan is to keep Jack away from the apartment, but that doesn't work out, and in a desperate move, Janet tells the holy man that Jack lives there because the two of them are married! *Then*, when Jack blurts out that they got "married" at City Hall, he offers to marry them himself in a proper religious ceremony.

A highly engaging and very funny episode, 'Chrissy Come Home' goes far on the comic abilities of our trio of stars. There are some great farcical moments as Janet and especially Jack get all nervous and tongue-tied in front of the Reverend, leading him to ask the question, "Does Jack always behave this strangely?". Of course, there is a classic 'Three's Company' style misunderstanding when Stanley gets the impression that the reverend doesn't want to marry Jack, he wants to get married *to* Jack. "This I gotta see." is what he's thinking.

All in all, this is an appealing showcase for Suzanne Somers as she struggles to stand up to her father and show him that she is now a grown woman who is capable of making her own decisions. And, in the end, the Reverend is impressed that both she and Jack are willing to make sacrifices to ensure that the other is happy.

The first of three appearances by Reverend Snow.

Eight out of 10.

Good laughs

Warning: Spoilers
Chrissy's dad, Reverend Snow shows up unexpectedly, apparently he doesn't know that Jack and Janet have taken in Jack as a roommate (even though in S1 E2 Chrissy's mother shows up and discovers that Jack is there too).

Lots of good laughs though, especially when Chrissy tells her dad that she's "dammed if I do or I'm dammed if I don't). The try to hide the fact that Jack there as a single person, so they say that Jack and Janet are married, but Reverend Snow asks where they got married, and Jack says at the courthouse.

Chrissy's dad, being a man of the cloth, tells them that they are really married in God's eyes, and offers to marry them "right here and now ". After trying to make excuses on why they can't get married right now, Chrissy finally comes clean and with much to her dad's chagrin, she tells him the truth. Initially, Rev. Snow wants Chrissy to come home, but he soon realizes how much Jack cares for and protects the girls, so he has a change of heart and tells Chrissy that he was wrong and supports the three living together.
