This is one of the weirdest episodes in SG1; one of those that begin halfway through, leaving us to discover in retrospect how things got so dire. It feels particularly odd to begin the episode with one character (apparently) dead --even though Daniel's numerous deaths will become a gimmick of the show.
Watching the rest of SG1 deal with their grief is unexpectedly interesting as it reveals a lot about the relationships between the characters and lets us into a more personal aspect of their lives. I also like the little discrepancies that gradually reveal that what really happened is very different from what they remember. Indeed, Daniel is actually held prisoner underwater by an alien named Nem, trying to discover "what fate Omorocca" (nice alien setting, by the way).
But despite SG1 being separated for most of the episode, the story lines are really similar, since they are all trying to remember past events, and end up resorting to various memory-retrieval techniques in order to solve their problems.
However, while we finally get to see what really happened when Daniel was captured, we only hear about Omorocca's tale, which makes it hard to care. I am actually rather frustrated at this part of the plot, which seems full of holes. If Nem looks this alien, how could his mate Omorocca ever pass for human? Why, for that matter, did it take Nem *3000 years* to ask about her?! And why is he going about it in such a stupid way, not even giving a clue to his prisoner? Finally, how can he be so sure that Daniel does have the information he wants? We will never know, and never hear from this again, so this is a deadend.
So while there are good things in this episode, the plot is a bit too convoluted for its own good, and it has no real impact on the overall story, which is usually how you recognise a really good episode. On second viewing, with the mystery gone, it gets a bit boring at times.
