Gore and science-fiction
Science-Fiction flick with a horror taste. Up to an elite squad to go into a research building looking out for survivors and to rescue them but quickly they are into hell. When the commander recognises one of the to be survived ones as his death wife, things go wrong. It can't be possible that his death wife is still alive.
Experiments going on under the ground just at the last minutes to reveal what really was going on. The beginning reminded me of Alien, with the creepy spaces and the detector used to find the creatures. But luckily it wasn't a copycat of that legendary flick.
For the horror geeks it's not the story itself that will attract them but he effects used. Bodies exploding, being burned alive, exploding bodies. You will have it all here all done by some mystery going on.

skip the first hour and then you will have your horror
Two brothers and one's wife go for a hunting weekend to a preservation. Before they know it they are in trouble. But also is this flick.
It takes a bit too long before the trouble comes in. Once it does not that much is explained. The first kill is done with an animal (dog)so revenge is on it's way once he discovers that his dog is being killed. The problem is that the two brothers fall for the same wife and she's pregnant so soon they think they are after each other. As viewer it's shown it isn't.
The killer in the woods is some kind of supernatural one, being stabbed and smashed with a gun a few times he still stands up and goes for his kills. But he's not alone...
Once the killings are done and there's one survivor this horror turns into a survival/revenge horror. That's the best part, reminded me of the excellent Eden Lake (2008). Still, it's full of plot holes and we move from one scene to another without anything explained or making sense.
On part of the red stuff, it do flows here and there and the sewing scene can be disgusting for some. If you can sit through the first hour then this turns out fine as a horror.

The Nightmare (2015)
you will fall asleep while watching
Okay, I have watched it and again I can't understand why this is so high rated here on IMDb. nothing against mockumentaries or documentaries going wrong but this here was a real nightmare to watch.
The only thing I saw was people telling of seeing dark shadows, yawn, in their sleep. They've given some kind of, yawn, electric shock and it opens a world that not everybody sees. Gotta stretch myself before I fall asleep.
And we move over more then 90 minutes from one, yaaaaaaawn, person to another all telling the same story. Can someone tell me what is the point of this ultra boring flick? The only thing I was afraid of was the fact that I should fall asleep while watching and would go into some kind of nightmare. Astral projection and stuff like that, no probs with it but being told like they are showing it here, sorry. A bit too much, yaaaaaaaaaawn

slow but above mediocre
Rose Leslie (famous from Game Of Thrones Ygritte) plays a girl Bea just being married and are having their honeymoon in the woods in a cabin. Nothing wrong with it and both are having fun and do make love a whole lot of time until they visit the local restaurant. It shows that something is wrong and that she had a past here.
I can't say that it has a lot of scary moments, it's a slow builder were once Bea had been sleepwalking things go wrong with her. She had bite marks on her upper legs and after a while she starts bleeding out of her private parts. Paul (Harry Treadaway) her fresh man discovers that there's something wrong with his wife or is she really human or a his wife at all. Towards the end it reveals itself.
Being a slow builder it takes a while before the horror really comes in, once it does you can guess what happened at the woods. There aren't many scary parts or effects used, the red stuff only shows like Bea having her periods. So on that part it's all low but it's okay to watch. Ideal for a starter for a horror night with your friends.

boredom in a circle
Came across this one because it had a rather good score and it had a few thespians in it that I saw earlier and were okay. For example Julie Benz was the one (remember Dexter) that made me go watch it. And the story looked promising, a bit like the Saw franchise I thought, who will die and who will survive...
Was I wrong. This was for me just a waist of time. It's all blah blah and nothing happens, well, people do die but just by electric pulse. So on part of the effects, there aren't any really, people get the pulse and just drop death. So viewers claim that you have to look deeper in the story, it's all about characterisation, racism, judgement about being different (tattoos, sexuality,...) and choices being made.
For me it was a hell to watch, the eject button was always in possession to be pushed but i wanted to know who survives and why and who did this. Even that was a big disappointment. No, skip this one...

He Never Died (2015)
mediocre flick but Rollins saves the day
I only picked this up because I know Henry Rollins for years with his band. And to see him in this horror I thought it would be brutal. Sadly it wasn't. It's a kind of supernatural story were Jack (Rollins) is some kind of creature that have never died, used to be called Cain. A fallen angle in other words which explains the scares on his back.
Rollins does well playing the anti-social depressed guy almost living his life in a diner. But it all changes when a girl appears in his life and she suddenly disappear in the hands of thugs. Up to Jack to save the girl.
Jack needs human flesh to survive so that's the part were the horrors comes in. Some did have a laughter throughout this flick, I haven't. Just a mediocre flick for me with some bloody moments here and there but nothing special.

the way the snakes are creeping into the story didn't work for me
The idea of this flick looked promising, and even as the story has been told before it's always tricky to involve snakes into a horror story because there are two ways you can make this flick, with real snakes like Ssssss (1973) or as done with so many with CGI. Then you have again two ways to make it, exaggerate the length of the snake or try to make it believable.
Here they tried to make the snakes believable. Didi it work, well, somehow it did but bringing in Voodoo concerning the snakes is were this flick goes a bit wrong. Being bitten by snakes you would guess he would turn into a snake somehow but it wasn't, He becomes a killer with enormous strength, and it's only toward the end that snakes do appear out of the killer's body and the voodoo comes back in.
So we do have two stories, a killer on the loose and snakes being involved into the way the killer is created. For me that didn't worked out that fine. Oh yes, there are moments were brutality is used against the victims and sure there are moments that are fine but to say this is wow, I can't. Just above mediocre.

They're Watching (2016)
they fooled me, it was a whole other reason that they were watching
Horror that will have mixed emotions amongst the fans. Why, because it really is a slow burner. It almost takes until the end before the real horror comes in. But once it does, it's one to look forward to.
It do has a few of funny situations but it wasn't made to make you laugh. But you can see it coming, Americans going to Eastern Europe (Moldavia) to visit a woman who made it over there. But there's more going on. Slowly the people from the town are watching the Americans. So want to know what is going on and I admit, the frogs tricked me. I can't say what did happen, otherwise I spoil it all but it's easy to spot that the ending is the moment all the money was used. It's over the top that's true but it do works.
They're Watching is a mockumentary go wrong as we have seen so many times but it worked out fine for me. But again, its a love or hate thing.

the problems with adolescents
Funny to see how a thirteen year old girl written a story about thirteen year old girls. Some do find this trash, I didn't had any problem with it. Having an adolescent at home you can see how wrong it can go. The flick itself of course is seen from the suburbs, and the bad ones. Mother living alone and having a date with a drug addict, have to work at home to earn some money. get the picture?
The brother is normal and doesn't have issues, just go surfing with his friends and smoking pot now and then. But it's the sister that has problems. The body starting to transform into a woman and being not that popular due the childish clothing. Once she get friended with the hottie of the school both are out for trouble. Stealing, smoking and using drugs and looking like sluts. The first thing she does is to prove she do can steal. therefor they go to Melrose Avenue. I know the place, back then when it was shot it was the place to be for extreme clothing. But the internet destroyed the Avenue and nowadays (summer 2015) you have seen it in 1 hour, a street full with empty shops, back then you could spend the whole day, a bit like Camden Town in London.
From there on it's up to Venice Beach to get piercings in belly and tongue. Let it be shot in the shop were I got my tattoo. It really shows how Venice Beach was and still is. Naturally to be popular with the guys the walk around without a bra and underwear quickly is changed for thongs. At the age of thirteen she even gets her first French kissing and her first cum in her mouth. But still she's not happy and still is cutting her arms with razors and scissors. Of course the two girlfriends are just showing off and at the end the friendship goes terribly wrong.
Maybe some do find it exaggerated but I do recognize the fact that some girls want to be popular and do things they regret later. Not bad after all.

a bit of the same
Alice In Wonderland (2010) was an excellent flick and the follow-up here is okay but you have seen it all before. I don't mean that I didn't liked it at all and it's great to see all characters back, with the original cast and effects are again stunning but for me the magic(k) was over.
Of course it's Disney and of course it's made for the whole family and you will have your laughter here and there with the rabbit and creatures surrounding the Hatter (Depp) but maybe it was the story that couldn't satisfy me. And it showed at theaters, can't say that it was for a long time in theaters and a lot of them were empty while showing this flick.
If you are into Disney then this is a must see of course but it's like seeing bands the second time perform at a gig, the magic is sometimes gone, exactly the same feeling here.
