Crazed and Relentless Officer
Rcwilkinson1231 December 2007
Somewhat of a spin-off story from the first episode of Season 5 arrives in fantastic and exciting fashion.

Lex is, again, in major trouble: his mansion has been locked down by a police officer who survived the attack of the Kryptonians Aethyr and Nam-Ek when they exited the jet-black spaceship. He knows that Lex has to have the ship. Lex hides in his secret panic room in his main office, as he and the officer realize they have a stalemate of bargaining. However, the officer gains the upper-hand when he tricks Lana into coming to the mansion. He knows that she also saw the aliens come out of the spacecraft and wipe out the police. In their time in the panic room, Lex and Lana come closer together. Lex, thinking his life is running short, is more honest about his feelings with Lana. Clark and Chloe are occupied by trying to discover where Lana could possibly be, leading to an exciting finish.

This episode is great for a variety of reasons: the really cool secret panic room in Lex's office; the storyline where Lex and Lana are alone together; Clark's fantastic save of Lana in Warehouse 15, where the ship used to be; and the fact that Clark saves Lana, but she has no idea. For all she knows, the only person who saved her in this instance was Lex. Clark realizes that Lana cannot truly appreciate all he does for her if she never knows the truth about him.

Dangerous Friendship
claudio_carvalho8 June 2007
A deranged policeman that survived the attack of the Kryptonians and his fiancée break in the Luthor's mansion asking for the location of the spaceship, but Lex locks himself in the panic room. Clark accidentally finds the association of Lana with Lex in their research of the spacecraft. Lana is kidnapped to force Luthor to leave the room; he is shot, but Lana escapes to the panic room with him. Meanwhile, Jonathan presses Lois to find who is funding his campaign and Martha tells the truth about Lionel.

In this episode, Martha's attitude is very disappointing and inconsistent, explaining that in politics there are no black and white, but blurriness. Jonathan proves his integrity raising honest money to pay Lionel, but I suspect the price will be higher than the expected. At least I am absolutely disappointed with Martha. The dangerous friendship of Lana and Lex may cause troubles to Clark in the future. The stupid end of Sheriff Nancy Adams was totally unexpected and I regret too her absence in the show. Chloe, as usual, shows maturity in her relationship with Clark. My vote is seven.

A good story and great visual effects
jennyxj095 March 2007
A Chinese saying goes like this: A crying baby would sooner get his mother's milk. The major worth-seeing plot in Lockdown is not the boring usual fight between Clark and Lana, not Sheriff Nancy Adams being shot by her "girl", not even the two traitors wanting to see the spaceship. What really catches the eye is Lana's obscure emotional shift to Lex, who's seriously injured by the effort of trying to save his lover with his "Flesh and Blood" body. Lana is obviously touched by his courage and perhaps some truthfulness apparently absent in Clark that she is craving for.

I was touched, however, by a scene in which Clark speeds through the big fire and runs onward with the unconscious Lana in his arms, great fire closing in. Great visual effects and irony are happening here. I think our heroin will make her own decision who should deserve more love. Clark, showing up almost every time saving her, but unscathed? No, he is always silent with no smart words to cover up his secrets. Lex, who's risking his life trying to save someone he loves? Well, yes, he does look nicer with little distinction between his true words and lies, doesn't it? In other words, he is the crying baby long trained to be exquisite for his words.

I give nine stars to this great presentation of the "crying baby" philosophy.

Clark/Lana Hypocrisy Hits a New Low!
spasek2 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The Clark/Lana merry-go-round hits a new low as far as hypocrisy goes. When I first watched this episode when it aired, I could only imagine what Tom Welling was noted for doing: walking around the set muttering, "Clark is such an idiot!"

Clark wants to be with Lana but not tell her the truth. Chloe is literally the only voice of wisdom when she tells him that it's an impossibility so long as he chooses not to tell her.

Lana continues to accuse Clark of lying when she's lying as well. She never does tell him about the ship and where it's been. Once again, just like Clark, Lana thinks she can have things both ways. The sad part is that Lana will glom onto whoever was the last person to save her life. It really is quite pathetic.

And, once again, Lex is shot. By the end of the sixth season, it's hard to keep track of how many times Lex has been shot and/or pistol-whipped. I guess the writers figured they could milk the well long after it's been dry.

Two deputies decide to try and force Lex into revealing the spaceship, and of course, Lana is caught in the middle. The real tragedy of the episode is Camille Mitchell's exit as the beloved Sheriff Adams. It was sad to see her character go down. I had hoped for some kind of acknowledgment or tribute at the end of the episode for her, but alas, we ended up with another sappy Lex/Lana moment instead. I would have preferred the former.

Overall, this is actually a good episode despite the merry-go-round which won't be ending anytime soon.
