Ziggy Zaglan (John Bluthal) is a popular American television host. He has a hit show but beneath the charm, Zaglan is an egoist who is a nightmare to work with.
His brother Paul is the main writer of the show and a key man in Zaglan's team.
Only Paul has quit, he has three picture deal on the west coast. He also plans to write an expose about his brother especially about a young woman who mysteriously drowned.
Zaglan orders his people to stop Paul. Only later than night Jim McCleery (Donald Sutherland) comes to see Paul. He holds them all responsible for his sister's death.
When Paul is found hanged, everyone thinks it is suicide. Everyone but Simon Templar. He is there because Zaglan wants the Saint to appear in his show. He has listened to a recording that Paul made that night, he was murdered.
The Saint tackles American television and if you are successful. There is a lot of money sloshing about and many monsters who call the shots. I wonder if the writers had experienced US television?
The story is essentially a murder mystery. This was a period when Sutherland was based in Britain. His character is too obviously painted as the villain.
