The Saint goes skiing
coltras357 August 2021
Average Saint adventure that has the Simon Templar helps a woman find her brother killers and his detective nose soon leads him to a ski instructor -Rula Lenska -who is involved in criminal activities. This episode benefits from the Cortina location, has some good tension and plenty of skiing. I just didn't find it as standout as the other episodes. Still an ok watch.

Hot Run

Simon is skiing in Cortina. This is James Bond territory. He is pretending to be a novice so he can flirt with Maria (Lorraine De Salle) the skiing instructor. Unfortunately her brother Andre is shot dead.

Andre worked in a bank an it seems he got involved with a gang of robbers masquerading as a ski display team. Led by American Diane Lang (Rula Lenska.) She plans to cause an avalanche that would halt the truck carrying the bullion. His gang would then rob the truck.

Simon ends up infiltrating the gang as he tries to uncover the real reason why Andre was shot dead. The Saint finds that the avalanche is on him.

The plot is snowed under with plot holes. There could had been easier ways to stop a truck, not one that could endanger so many lives. Even Andre could had been killed more surreptitiously.

Rula Lenska has an awful American accent. It is Ogilvy who lifts this story with some nifty stunt skiing.

My son watched the end bit and mistook it for a Bond movie, he was waiting for a Beach Boys to song to come on!

The Saint on skis!
ShadeGrenade9 August 2009
Warning: Spoilers
The Saint is on a skiing holiday in Cortina, Italy ( yes, there again! ) when he witnesses a murder. The deceased belonged to a club run by skiing instructor Diana Lang ( Rula Lenska ). Simon joins and discovers that she, along with a group of men, are plotting to hijack a gold bullion van and make off with the booty on sleds. The dead man was a part of the gang, but changed his mind about participating in the robbery, hence his death at the hands of Corey ( John Nolan ).

Simon inveigles his way into the gang, even sleeping with Diana ( the things this man does in the name of law and order! ), while waiting for an opportunity to thwart the scheme...

Written by the brilliant Tony Williamson, whose credits include episodes of 'The Avengers', 'Adam Adamant Lives!', and 'The Champions', this is not one of his best offerings, resembling as it does a cut-price 'Goldfinger' on skis. The Cortina location would be used two years later in the Bond movie 'For Your Eyes Only'. The gang's plan is to stop the van by starting a mini-avalanche. A risky strategy, surely? One miscalculation and the van - and the people robbing it - could have been buried.

As 'Diana', Rula Lenska's poor American accent is about as convincing as Felicity Kendal's was in 'Honey For Tea' ( 1994 ). John Nolan was 'Geoff Hardcastle' in the second season of the B.B.C.'s sci-fi drama 'Doomwatch'.

The sight of Templar in bed with a woman must have been a shocker in 1979. Amazing what snow does for some people...
