Groundbreaking!

I loved how they completely normalized the wedding and how all the characters except Maurice were so nonchalant about it-plus, it was of course cool to see his evolution. I've been looking forward to this episode for a long time and it was a bit underwhelming but very surreal and joyful to watch almost 30 years later. Kudos to the showrunners for going for this!

The ending was a bit fun and definitely unexpected, but other than that I found all of the storylines to be super predictable-which isn't usually the case for this amazing show. Marilyn finally got a storyline and I instantly knew how it was going to end once it started :(

The Big Wedding

The two gay men who are routinely accepted in Cicely decide to get married. Now remember, this is 1994. The interesting thing is that the only conflict that appears is between the two of them. One certainly is pushy and uses passive aggressiveness to get his way. That leads to some interesting dynamics, especially as it relates to Maurice who is opposed to the whole thing to start with. In other things, Holling stupidly tries to undercut the caterer by fifteen dollars a head and tries to do the menu. The reality of this whole thing is that what he ultimately gets done could never have been accomplished in so short a time. It does end up costing him. A unique thing is that Maggie is experiencing what seem to be tremors/earthquakes. She begins to assume that these things only happen when she is around Joel. The pot is stirred when Maggie is given an anecdote that she accepts as proof.
