Very funny episode.

When Lou advertises for a woman to present a regular news piece on the show there's interest from unexpected people.

All the regulars get really funny bits. Mary is more comic than usual. Georgette zanier. Sue Ann's heartfelt meeting with Mary and manic audition takes her to new heights.

Nice guest turn from the talented Rosalind Cash.

Mary Wants the Job.....But
Hitchcoc21 February 2017
Lou decides to put a little spice in the news by hiring a female reporter to do a woman's perspective on current events. Mary is given the job of setting up auditions. The kicker is that there are lots of women applying. When Ted finds out about the pay, he send Georgette to audition. Sue Ann Nivens (whose audition is hilarious) tries out. But most of all, Mary really wants the job for herself. It's obvious from the auditions that there is one person who really deserves to get it. This leads to the big kiss off in Lou's office at the end. Mary Tyler Moore had such an expressive face and it is so telling in this scene. She is certainly missed.

Solid episode picks up after a slow start!

This is indeed a pretty good and solid episode of an nearly-always great tv show! I would say there are maybe like 5 'not so good' MTM episodes, out of 144 shows over 7 seasons. The 'not so good' episodes are all at least watchable,so they really had a great run with this show I'd say!

This is a fine example af a typical MTM episode, made pretty much during the show's heyday! (right in the middle part of the show's history) Rather entertaining I say!
