Introducing Uncle Angelo.
mark.waltz30 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
While Sophia's sister Angela is not mentioned in this episode, it could be insinuated that at some point within the past year, she moved back to Brooklyn, as Uncle Angelo is visiting Miami before he heads to Brooklyn to visit family there. Bill Dana joins in a recurring role and is very funny, although not as funny as Nancy Walker was. He's allegedly a priest who lives in Sicily, still thinking that Stan and Dorothy are married. They must pretend to be happily married even though Dorothy despises him. With Rose and Blanche dressed as nuns (appearing in "The Sound of Music") and pretending to be real nuns, the six are trapped together as a hurricane hits Miami. As the storm gets worse, the truth comes out, resulting in an extremely funny it's one of the few where I really enjoy Stan's presence, especially when Dorothy takes him down with all the acerbic humor that Bea Arthur could muster.

My Brother, My Father (#3.17)

Warning: Spoilers
Sophia's brother Angelo who is a priest comes for a visit. To not upset the highly religious relative Stan and Dorothy pretend to still be married. Blanche and Rose who come home in their nun costumes from the play pretend to be real nuns for the same reason. There is a storm so they are all trapped and because it is actually Dorothy and Stan's 40th anniversary Rose has a great idea to have them renew their vows since there is a priest in the house.

A hilarious episode with one great joke after another. Bill Dana was awesome as the priest uncle. And the fact that the priest is not the priest at the end makes the story well wrapped up and especially funny!

Divine intervention.

Sophia is behaving very strangely, making Dorothy's favourite food, and being nice to Stan, even inviting him around for dinner. It turns out Uncle Angelo is coming for a visit, Sophia is keen for happy families.

Side splitting, this episode is pure class, hilariously funny from start to finish. I'd put this one in my top five.

Dorothy was so ahead of the time, she had 2023 views before it was even such a thing. Seeing her and Stan squabbling under the pretence of being happily married is a scream.

Some of the one liners in this episode will have you aching laughing, some of the best for some time.

'I could vomit just looking at you,' 'The Nazis are coming,' 'That was my mother's knee.'

Herb Edelman was tremendous as Stan, arguably his best episode.

Magical. 10/10.

Warning: Spoilers
This is a classic sitcom set up, where you need two characters to pretend they are in a relationship for whatever reason.

Well the relationship here is Dorothy and her ex needing to be forced to appease a distant uncle who happens to be a very serious priest. Dorothy is clearly unwilling to do this. My issue is this is about as conservative and hostile as one can get with a religion. Dorothy's divorce is hers and her choice for her happiness. Someone's culty delusional religion should have no bearing on other people's lives. Plenty of Golden Girl episodes, situations, and jokes get flak for being "outdated." Well this is and will always be hot garbage. Poor Bea's Character for having to be forced to put up with her ex husband because of a one off character's religion. This episode is pointless and tone deaf.
