Merciless bounty hunter John Pike (an excellent and convincing performance by Michael Moriarty) accidentally kills an innocent young man in a shootout with the dead man's gun. The boy's vengeful mother Katherine Morrison (well played by Kate Jackson) places a bounty on Pike's head.
Director Rene Bonniere keeps the engrossing story moving along at a constant pace as well as maintains a tough gritty tone throughout. John Hunter's potent script makes a strong central points on the need to see that justice is properly served and on how certain professions can rob a person of their humanity, with Pike making for a memorably ruthless and hateful S.O.B. lead character. Moreover, this episode further benefits from sturdy acting from an able cast: Donnelly Rhodes as the sensible Sheriff Blythe, Suki Kaiser as weary old flame Maria, and John Trench as mean rival Joe Rule. A smack dab on the money show.
