Sex & Nudity

  • A human like mannequin in a store is wearing a dress made out of chocolate bars and after all the chocolate is purchased she is seen wearing lingerie.
  • There's a chocolate Indian statue nude clearly showing breasts and nipples
  • Wonka says a brief innuendo ("don't touch that squirrel's nuts!").
  • Violet's mom wears a track outfit that shows a good amount of cleavage to the viewers.

Violence & Gore

  • We hear gunfire coming from Mike's house and see several flashes from the window it is then shown that he is playing a violent video game and is shouting "die".
  • Some martial arts action, involving a preteen girl knocking out two judo instructors whilst chewing gum.
  • A comment is made about cannibalism.
  • The Oompa Loompas mention Augustus Gloop being grinded down and boiled. None of this happens.
  • A girl is show swelling like a blueberry.
  • The cross section of a large fantasy insect is shown, but it is nothing more than poorly rendered pinkish red texture.
  • A large pack of squirrels surround a girl and attack her. They drag her towards a garbage chute. She shouts out for her father and can barely move; she then also scratches the floor. The squirrels throw her down the chute and later do the same thing to her dad.

Profanity

  • Grandpa George begins to go on an angry rant about Mike Teavee and Mr. Bucket covers Charlie's ears and it is shown from Charlie's point of view we only hear muffled shouts and it is implied what he is saying is profane.
  • Mike says "retard."
  • Insults and euphemisms are mainly heard; "poppycock" is used as a word for nonsense; "nuts" is used for the food and possibly a mildly vulgar slang term for testicles.
  • Grandpa George says "Like hell" at one point.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • As an in-joke, Wonka suggests that the kids "try some of his grass" (slang for marijuana). We then see that he is referring to a field of edible candy grass, the plant, not the drug.
  • In one scene, Veruca's mother is seen sipping on her martini whilst her daughter is having a tantrum.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A grotesque display shows dolls and animals made of candy melting as they sing, revealing eyeballs, and interior workings.
  • A cow is seen being whipped. This is dismissed as a joke about making whipped cream.
  • For preschoolers/kids.
  • Mild for neurodivergent viewers.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Willy Wonka has a couple of flashbacks throughout the film. In the first flashback, we see Willy Wonka when he was a kid, and he's wearing a dental mask, and when Wonka's father throws his Halloween candy in their fire place, the fire turns a different colour. In the third one, Willy Wonka comes home on a stormy night and discover that his house has disappeared.
  • Mr. Bucket loses his job. The Bucket Family is seen living in abject poverty, sleeping in tight corners of a dilapidated house while dressed in old clothing.
  • The scene where an adult Wonka reunites with his estranged father may be emotional for some viewers.
  • Wonka, Joe and Charlie are in a fast moving elevator heading for the roof, with intense music and Wonka's creepy laughing.
  • The soundtrack (Mainly the Opening Theme/Boat Ride Music), might be a little scary to younger viewers. This can also add on the dark atmosphere of the movie.
  • Frightening things happen to four of the five children, because they behave poorly and fail to do what is asked of them. One of the kids falls into a chocolate river and is sucked up by a tube that is too small for him. Another child turns into a blueberry and blows up several times her size. The third child is attacked and dragged away by squirrels, who throw her down a garbage chute, and the fourth child is shrunk down to the size of an ant. The children are leave the factory and do not look like themselves. Especially when Mike Teavee comes out of the factory very long, flat and 3 times the height of his already tall dad.
