Lisa Ling has joined CBS News as a contributor across the network broadcasts and platforms.
Ling served as host and executive producer of This Is Life with Lisa Ling for CNN, but the show was not renewed last year as the network went through a round of budget cuts. The show explored issues like interracial families, sex trafficking and gun violence.
Ling also headlined the HBO Max documentary series Take Out, centering on Asian American history and cuisine.
Before CNN, Ling was host and executive producer of Our America for Oprah Winfrey’s OWN, and was host of National Geographic Ultimate Explorer. She previously was a co-host on The View and contributed to ABC News’ Nightline. She started in journalism as a correspondent for Channel One. Among other assignments, she covered the civil war in Afghanistan when she was just 21.
Ling will start on the network this summer and will be based in Los Angeles.

John Legend had a somber moment when he took the stage at the 28th Annual Producers Guild Awards on Saturday night, and addressed President Donald Trump's immigration ban.
"Our vision of America is directly antithetical to that of President Trump," the 38-year-old R&B artist declared. "I want to specifically tonight reject his vision and affirm that America has to be better than that."
"Los Angeles is the home of so many immigrants, so many creative people, so many dreamers," he continued. "Our America is big, it is free, and it is open to dreamers of all races, all countries, all religions."

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend continued to flaunt their enviable romance when they popped up at the Producers Guild Awards in Beverly Hills on Saturday night. John kissed Chrissy on the cheek on the red carpet before stepping aside and letting Chrissy have her moment in the spotlight. Once inside, John took the stage to introduce La La Land, but before that, he responded to Donald Trump's ban on refugees, saying, "I won't pretend that La La Land is a political film, but I do want to take a second to talk about what's happening in our country right now. Own said today that the upcoming fifth season of documentary series Our America With Lisa Ling will be its last. The cancellation is a significant because of Our America‘s place in Own’s history. Premiering in February 2011, Our America was part of the network’s inaugural slate of unscripted series aimed at empowering women and helping them better their lives. It was the only show of the bunch not hosted by Winfrey to draw a sizable audience while Own was going through major growing pains and the only one to make it that far. During Own’s dark early months of big ratings struggles, Our America carried the torch with solid ratings and critical response. Own finally scored a second hit in late 2011 with Welcome To Sweetie Pie’s, which signaled a turn to entertainment fare, often targeting black audiences. That trend was cemented by the mega-deal with Tyler Perry,...

Lisa Ling disappointed in two earlier looks at the “ex-gay” movement. Was the third time the charm?
In two previous episodes of Our America With Lisa Ling, journalist Ling examined the so-called “ex-gay” movement, in which lesbian, gay and bisexual people turn to Christianity in an attempt to overcome their sexuality. In the first, “Pray the Gay Away?“, I was disappointed that Ling asked the question in the first place. Asking it at all positions the Lgbt community and the “ex-gay” movement as moral equivalents. They are not.
Her second effort was also disappointing, since rather than make a fresh examination in the aftermath of her earlier episode, Ling simply repeated that episode almost in its entirety, with little new comment on its content or the reaction to it. Ling did include new interview footage with Alan Chambers, head of “ex-gay” organization Exodus International, in the wake of that group...

In 2011, Season 1 of Own's Our America with Lisa Ling ran a controversial episode called "Can You Pray The Gay Away?" that featured the ex-gay movement as largely spearheaded by an organization called Exodus International. Host Lisa Ling aimed to show all sides of the issue, but GLAAD, among others, felt there was too much emphasis on Exodus, giving the harmful organization a platform that they then used to tout their authenticity. That, Lisa Ling said, was not her intention. As someone who considers herself a huge advocate for Lgbt rights, she was hoping to tell a story, and that story has only continued to unfold over the last couple of years after the episode aired.

It seems like just yesterday when we discovered TV journalist Lisa Ling was pregnant. Now she's posing with her newborn daughter Jett -- born March 9 -- in the latest issue with Us Weekly and gushing poetic about life as a new mom.
The magazine reports that Ling also underwent a C-section during birth because of complications with her daughter's umbilical cord.
"When they held her up, it was probably the most triumphant moment in our marriage," Ling told the publication about the delivery experience with her husband of six years, Paul Song. "It was like, 'We made that screaming beast and we're responsible for her for the rest of our lives!' It was an incredible bonding moment.'"
The words ring especially true given what Ling told Marie Claire magazine in 2011 -- that her marriage to Song, an oncologist, hadn't always been easy. "People always said, 'You're such an impressive couple professionally.

When Lisa Ling first visited the subject of “ex-gays” in the “Pray the Gay Away?” episode of her Own program Our America with Lisa Ling, I was less than impressed. She had in the past seemed distressed at the idea of people using their faith to manipulate others, but she was strangely complacent about the idea of gay people of faith being manipulated to renounce their homosexuality. In trying to be “balanced” she treated the gay and the “ex-gay” as morally equivalent.
Ling returned to the subject in the first part of last night's Our America season finale, “Pray the Gay Away? - Breaking News”. Ling told AfterElton in an interview yesterday that she wanted to revisit the story because of the announcement by Exodus International, the United States' largest “ex-gay” ministry, that it would no longer conduct “reparative therapy” to try to convert gay people into heterosexuals. (She had...

Good morning!
How good is it, exactly? Well let's start with this music video where Leighton Meester dumps date WIlmer Valderrama for Vanessa Curry, the singer for The Nomads.
I pretty much love all of it except for the ending. It's like, why bother? Also, why are bathroom stalls so hot to get sexy in?
Bisexual model Jasmine Lennard has joined the Celebrity Big Brother house in the UK. She's apparently famous for having a fling with Simon Cowell. Ugh.
The Swedish lesbian film Kiss Me will come out on DVD November 6. I highly recommend it!
Tegan Quin helped Dan Savage answer a question about girl crushes for Savage Love this week. Here's her advice:
I'd gone most of my teens crushing on guys like Jared Leto, thinking that must make me straight. Even though secretly I was dreaming of make-outs with Claire Danes.

Own: The Oprah Winfrey Network may be struggling in the ratings but Discovery Communications CEO David Zaslav says he believes the channel just needs more time to connect with viewers. Some programs show promise. Welcome To Sweetie Pie’s is one bright spot — the show has averaged 388,000 total viewers and a 0.38 rating among women aged 25-54 in its Saturday time slot, but Zaslav points out the rating rises to a 2 in the African-American community. Sweetie-Pie’s follows a St. Louis soul-food restaurant run by former Ike and Tina Turner backup singer Robbie Montgomery. Additional episodes have been ordered and begin production this month. Our America with Lisa Ling has also posted double-digit growth across key demos and has averaged 405,000 viewers in its timeslot according to Own. A recent Our America about African-American men in prison also earned a drew a 2 rating in the African American community, Zaslav said. Future topics will include pageant kids,...

As you might imagine, it's good to have Oprah Winfrey in your corner. With her show "Our America with Lisa Ling," former "The View" co-host Lisa Ling has been able to explore a wide variety of challenging topics in-depth without network pressure to condense material to snippets. Most importantly, Ling has scored a high profile timeslot for her show on Own, following Oprah's own "Oprah's Lifeclass" ("Our America"'s second season debuts Sun. Oct. 16 at 10 p.m. on Own). Still, the intrepid journalists acknowledges that the fledgling network hasn't exactly taken over basic cable, even with the Oprah stamp of approval....

Lisa Ling wants women to feel themselves up more.
No, not in a dirty way -- to help detect breast cancer earlier. The Own host and longtime journalist has grown even more passionate about breast cancer awareness after four of her friends -- all under the age of 40 and none with a family history -- were diagnosed with the disease.
“Women need to take a more proactive approach to their health. So many people I know have been diagnosed with it,” Ling told The Huffington Post at a luncheon launching the P&G Give Hope campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. “It’s become an epidemic. The survival rate is high if you detect it early. My whole thing is women just need to start feeling themselves up more.”
Early detection of breast cancer can save thousands of lives each year. The five-year survival rate of a stage-one diagnosis is 98 percent,...

In its first upfront presentation since its Jan. 1 launch, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network announced the pickup of 6 new unscripted series and the renewal of 4 existing shows. The announcement didn't include the most anticipated new OWN series, an Oprah Winfrey show, which will launch in September, after the end of her syndicated talk show. The network is yet to share details about it, though it is expected to be a talk show. OWN has been slow out of the gate, barely outperforming the channel it replaced, Discovery Health. One of the most heavily promoted first new series, Your OWN Show, flopped, and Oprah Presents Master Class has underperformed. But the network found early success with Our America with Lisa Ling, the first OWN series to get renewed, and Season 25: Oprah Behind the Scenes. The Judds also had a promising premiere on Sunday. Joining Our America on the list of renewed...

The Judds are back. Bigger and, theoretically, better than ever. At least that's what they said in a recent conference call interview. Naomi and Wynonna's new series The Judds premieres on the Oprah Winfrey Network on Sunday, April 10, and from the sounds of it, the whole experience was one big therapy session.
The pair have been very vocal through the years about the struggles of working with each other for so long. And this docu-series, which follows them on their latest tour, exposes that drama to the world. With therapist Dr. Ted Klontz firmly seated on the tour bus, Naomi and Wynonna hit the road and struggled to overcome the issues that have been haunting them for decades. And the good news is, we get to watch the whole thing.
When asked what they've learned about their relationship Naomi commented, "I will always be her mom.

“The answer is most definitively ‘no.’”
So Lisa Ling says emphatically when asked by Afterelton.com about title of the recent “Can You Pray the Gay Away?” episode of Our America with Lisa Ling on the Oprah Winfrey Network.
Ling says the title of the episode was meant to be rhetorical, and the entire point of the show was to reach out to those Christian evangelicals who do think gay people can changed and convince them that wasn’t the case.
Unfortunately for Ling, many gay people didn’t see the question as rhetorical and took offense that that a credible journalist was even asking the question. In fact, GLAAD (the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) took Ling to task both for that episode, as well as a follow up episode that revisited one of the gay subjects who was, in fact, trying to pray the gay away.

We really dig Lisa Ling. Of our generation of journalists she seems like the one we’d feel most comfortable sitting down and having a cup of coffee with. And still, she’s one of the best at what she does. We believe it’s because she’s willing to leave that cold, detached reporters veneer at the door and show her vulnerability to the people she interviews. We were lucky enough to have an exclusive interview with Lisa this week. Here’s what she had to say about Oprah, American Idol and her show Our America.
As the first season of Ling’s new show on Own, she’s already covered some pretty intense topics including transgenders, faith healing, mail order brides and people who believe you can “Pray the Gay Away.” And for those of you like us who, thanks to Lisa,...

"I believe strongly in faith. I just...I don't want to see peoples' faith, hope, manipulated."
Those words were spoken by journalist Lisa Ling during the very first episode of her Own series Our America with Lisa Ling. The subject then was faith healing. The subject Tuesday night was homosexuality and Christianity. And frustratingly, Ling didn't seem to mind at all that peoples' faith and hope were being manipulated in order to make them become "straight," and in some cases, had been for years.
In the rather appallingly named "Pray the Gay Away?," Ling poses the question, "Can you be gay and Christian at the same time?"
Given the existence of the Metropolitan Community Church, Dignity, Integrity and a plethora of other gay and gay-friendly Christian denominations and organizations, the obvious answer is "yes" but that would make for a short program. So really, the show is about the "tens...

Today is both International Women's Day and Mardi Gras and as a woman (though not quite an International Woman yet, not sure how to go about that part) and a lapsed Catholic, that gives me two reasons to celebrate tonight. Or, wait, do you celebrate International Women's Day or do you sit around in quiet contemplation reading depressing articles like I'm pretty sure you're supposed to do on World AIDS Day? Because I feel like if you are a woman-person (as I am) or are a man who has aligned himself positively with woman-people (in that you're a believer in gender equality and not in the "so women can see how good they really have it" not actually friendly to women way, like in the "people are people and should all be treated with the same amount of respect and consideration until they prove themselves to be a utter waste...

Own already lets viewers see Oprah in a light like never before, but now they'll be able to see it in high definition.
That's right, those who have relegated themselves to watching standard definition versions of episodes of hits like "Your Own Show," "Our America with Lisa Ling," and "Season 25: Oprah Behind the Scenes" will have to wait no more. Well, unless you don't have Dish Network.
Beginning Thursday, March 3rd, Dish is adding Own to it's line-up of high definition channels. You can find it on Channel 189 (if your subscription includes their hi-def offerings, of course.).
"We are thrilled that Dish Network is making Own available in HD," said Allan Singer, Evp, distribution & strategy, Own: Oprah Winfrey Network. "Many viewers have contacted us eager to watch Own in HD, and now with the help of Dish Network, we are able to fulfill their request and continue serving our audience.

We are thick into tourist season here in Miami and as anyone else who's lived in an area that's popular to travel to can attest, it's a love/hate relationship. More the hate, most days. I've heard that Miami has a bad reputation among tourists because people are scared they'll get killed here and all I have to say to that is that it's not too likely if you're paying attention, don't go poking around in shady areas looking for "where the locals hang," and stay the hell out of the left lane if you're sightseeing while driving. Oh, also, Cuban coffee is not Starbucks coffee. If you usually get a venti triple shot whatever, you should still start with just the one weensy cup of café cubano. Trust me. From the beginning, the Own Network started with a bang bringing in over one million viewers during it’s debut weekend.
However, the network has been struggling ever since with recent prime-time ratings putting it behind Oxygen, Hallmark and Lifetime. With 237,000 prime-time viewers, the network ranked number 55 among ad-supported cable networks.
Oprah has stated the benchmark is to have better numbers than what Discovery Health had before and, so far, that’s been accomplished with women in the 25-54 age range but not so much the coveted 18-49 broadcast prime-time ad rates set.

Ling has proven herself in the journalism world over nearly two decades in the business, from her start on Channel One and her stint on 'The View,' to her more recent work for National Geographic, 'Nightline' and 'The Oprah Winfrey Show.' But nothing comes close to how in-depth she's going on her new Own series.

I basically never have anything good to say about Tuesdays. They're when you realize that all your big plans for the week ("I'm gonna wake up earlier than I need to! And run! And not hit the snooze button ten times! And pack a healthy lunch every day!") aren't going to work out because everything that seems so simple and sensible in the evening when you're making these grand plans evaporates when the alarm goes off and your snoozy, lazy, take-out loving ass has the choice of hauling itself out of bed or spending another ten minutes warm and cozy under the covers. And you spend another day swearing at yourself as you realize you only have fifteen minutes to make yourself presentable, again, and race through getting ready inevitably forgetting something vital. Like pants. Or maybe that's just me. Here's your Tuesday night television:
