Gilmore Girls was guest star Adam Shapiro’s big break. His first professional job, after landing a role on The Andy Dick Show as an intern, Shapiro has worked steadily ever since. Gilmore Girls was also his biggest celebrity encounter, and not the cast of the show. The filming of Gilmore Girls overlapped with NBC megahit Friends, and Shapiro met the Friends stars via Gilmore Girls.

Gilmore Girls launched Adam Shapiro’s acting career. While in college, Shapiro did a walk-on role on The Andy Dick Show, but Gilmore Girls started his process of auditioning and landing roles. He’d have much more dialogue in subsequent roles, but Shapiro remembers his one line on Gilmore Girls being especially challenging.

When Gilmore Girls sent Rory (Alexis Bledel) to Yale, she met a lot of new people. In the season 4 episode, “The Fundamental Things Apply,” Rory meets a table full of boys in the dining hall. Adam Shapiro plays Sugarman, who is wearing a pink shirt over a T-shirt. The pink shirt covers the text on the T-shirt, so Shapiro recently explained what his shirt said.

Shapiro was a guest on Scott Patterson’s I Am All In podcast Nov. 16 to discuss his Gilmore Girls episode. He explained how the T-shirt ended up on the show and what it said in its entirety.

You can kind of see the word Temple and Basketball on the gray T-shirt. Shapiro is, in fact, a Temple University Basketball fan. The pink shirt covers Temple coach John Chaney’s slogan.

I think it’s safe to say that Steve Carell is a master of physical comedy. This is the man who famously once waxed his chest hair on the big screen. So it makes sense that The Office star is an executive producer and one of the first celebrity guests on Riot, a new extreme game show premiering tonight on Fox.
“I have no idea what I’m getting myself into,” Carell jokingly told EW before filming alongside his Office co-star Andy Buckley. The show is based on the international hit franchise Slide Show and puts two teams of celebrities...

Morgantown, W.Va. — Two Kentucky men who say they were sexually assaulted by comedian Andy Dick at a West Virginia nightclub two years ago have filed a lawsuit against the comedian.
The 26-year-old from Ashland and the 35-year-old from Catlettsburg are also involved in a pending criminal case against Dick, their attorney said Tuesday. Dick's trial on two counts of felony first-degree sexual abuse is set for May 1 in Cabell County Circuit Court in Huntington.
Dick pleaded not guilty last summer to charges he grabbed a bouncer's crotch, and groped and kissed a patron while performing a series of shows in Huntington at a comedy club. The alleged acts occurred Jan. 23, 2010, at the Rum Runners nightclub.
Attorney Mike Woelfel said he filed the case earlier this month, seeking unspecified damages, to comply with the statute of limitations, which expired Monday. He said the complaint and the criminal case speak for themselves.

MTV has picked up Your Face or Mine? a half-hour game show pilot from American Idol producer FremantleMedia North America. Stand-up comedian Dan Levy has been tapped to host the show, a U.S. version of the British series of the same name that FremantleMedia produced for Channel 4 in 2002. It challenges contestants to predict how handsome or ugly people think they really are. Levy was named funniest college comedian in the country by HBO at the 2001 U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colo., and was featured at the 2002 Just for Laughs Montreal Comedy Festival. Comedian Scott Henry has inked a talent holding deal with UPN to star in an untitled sitcom from writer-producer Scott Tomlinson. The show, about an electrician (Henry) who is unhappy with his prospects and decides to go back to college to get his degree, will be based on Henry's stand-up act about the clashes between his hip contemporary outlook on life and the very traditional views of his Midwestern family. While the focus is on the project with Tomlinson, if it doesn't go forward, UPN would cast Henry in another pilot targeted for fall 2004. In the past two years, Henry had talent deals with Touchstone TV and ABC, most recently working with writer-producer Seth Kurland and the Greenblatt Janollari Studio. Montreal Comedy Festival alumnus Henry, who was a featured performer on Comedy Central's Premium Blend, is repped by ICM and 3 Arts Entertainment. Tomlinson's credits include Fox's Cedric the Entertainer Presents and MTV's The Andy Dick Show. He is repped by ICM.

An actress has filed a lawsuit against MTV and comic Andy Dick - accusing them of sexually battering her and emotional distress. R. Sparkle Stillman, a 4 foot 2 inch actress who suffers from a spinal deformity, has filed a lawsuit against Dick and the channel over a comedy sketch that overstepped the mark. Dick, 35, is famous for spoofing celebrities on his show The Andy Dick Show and invites big names such as Mandy Moore, Ben Stiller and Moby to appear alongside him. He is famous for his character Daphne Aguilera, which alludes to pop princess Christina Aguilera and her infamous dress sense. Stillman alleges that upon arriving for filming in a Santa Monica park on June 18th, she was told the skit had been cancelled. However she goes on to report she was told to lie on her back and upon asking what was happening, an assistant director told her to, "shut up." She alleges that an unnamed naked man jumped on top of her and "simulated a sexual attack." Stillman is asking for unspecified damages and a court order to block the channel from broadcasting the episode.

One-time bad boy comic Andy Dick will make his big screen directorial debut with a script he's written called Taylor Made. Dick, who proudly reports he's now two years sober from his dangerous drug habit, will also star in the movie. He says, "I'll play Andrew Taylor, the fashion designer character I did for VH-1's Fashion Awards. The film follows Taylor through a whole year, from one fashion show, which is a dismal failure, to the next fashion show. In between he tries to direct music videos, get a fragrance off the ground and falls on and off the wagon. It's going to be pretty raunchy. I describe it as Waiting For Guffman meets Kids, but not as creepy as Kids." Dick expects to start work on Taylor Made in August, after he wraps seven more episodes of his MTV series The Andy Dick Show. And directing the TV show is what gave him the confidence to tackle a big-screen project. He explains, "I advanced a lot. We shoot so much on the series under such gruelling conditions in so little time, it's amazing."...
