While everyone is buzzing about what’s going on in the Dark Nights: Metal mainline series by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo – and understandably so – it’s hard not to think the various tie-ins are giving their bigger cousin a run for its money. Aside from the “Gotham Resistance” arc that’s unfolding in several ongoing titles from DC, the series of one-shots detailing evil versions of Batman hailing from the Dark Multiverse are proving to be essential reads once they hit stands.
The latest offering, The Murder Machine, spotlights a Batman-Cyborg hybrid that may end up going down as one of the better tragedies this medium has to offer for the remainder of 2017. Granted, we’ve yet to get our hands on any subsequent issues and therefore can’t speak for any of the other Dark Knights, but this particular book came as a...

Saboteur? BMX Ninja? Ninja Golf? Shadow Warriors? The Last Ninja? We dissect the ninja videogames of the 1980s...
When I was a kid, I picked what I wanted to be when I grew up based on computer games rather than actual life experience. First, thanks to Lunar Jetman, I wanted to be an astronaut. Then Elevator Action and Impossible Mission convinced me a spy would be an even cooler job. Winter Games and, uh, Horace Goes Skiing made me think I had a shot at the Olympic Slalom. By the time I got to playing Tapper, running a redneck bar that only served Budweiser to furious cowboys looked like a solid option too.
I didn’t end up doing any of those things in real life, but one thing I did pick up from gaming that’s never gone away was an obsession with ninjas. At the...

DC released the image that precedes this week’s via a puff piece in USA Today. In it, we see the Aveng-err-Justice League being scowly amidst steam and metal and stuff. It’s really striking, ain’t it?
As the image made its way across the social media networks I frequent, a common theme rose to the surface: Vomit. While I typically love to play devil’s advocate in situations like this, offering a nice counterpoint to typical rantings in lieu of some of my own delicious snark, I honest to Rao can only pile on. Let’s carve this screencap into a thousand angry pieces, shall we?
First off, I’m fine with Batfleck. He’s grumpy and gray. Which is exactly what I expect Batman to be. I think the one fine thing to come out of Batman v Superman was the portrayal of Bruce Wayne and his emo counterpart.

The Matrix changed everything. The monster hit of 1999, it went into the annals of movie legend and never released its talon-like grip on the pop-cultural zeitgeist. Everybody was talking about this film. It wasn’t just the groundbreaking set pieces and fighting that had audiences flocking in droves, however. This was an action movie that dared to be smart, thoughtful even, laying out the carpet for a new generation of hyper-charged blockbusters that challenged the audience’s intellect as much as its senses. As much as The Matrix played on the tropes of the genre, it had ideas above its station, majoring in philosophy and Lynchian nightmares. It presented fantastical and spiritual mythos as a backdrop to breathless viscera. Bullet-dodging nailed down the viewer long enough to ask some truly troubling questions.

"Battle Angel" has been on James Cameron's to-do list for quite a while. But since he's working on "Avatar," a film that has a very good chance of being successful, 20th Century Fox may want him to make a few sequels rather than focus his attention on something else. Now comes news directly from Cameron's camp (via MarketSaw) that "Battle Angel" is being talked about and only "Avatar 2" could derail it. In addition, Cameron's people also offered a few words about "Angel." Q: What is happening right now with "Angel"? A: he tests are "Beautiful" and "Complex" beyond your wildest dreams. Stunningly beautiful, considering the fact that some are old(ish). Imagine this for a second. A cyborg chick "the Angel of Death" taking out "a lot" of other part man, part machine type "people." Q: What do those tests contain? A: Now picture the "Angel of Death" looking like a child.
