Kristen Stewart continues her 2024 indie reign following the Sundance premieres of “Love Lies Bleeding” and “Love Me.”
Now, Stewart has a supporting role in “Sacramento,” directed by “Minx” star Michael Angarano, his second feature behind the camera after 2017’s “Avenues.” The road trip buddy comedy premieres at the 2024 Tribeca Festival in the U.S. Narrative Competition alongside Morrisa Maltz’s “The Unknown Country” follow-up “Jazzy,” Mark Duplass-produced “The Knife,” and more.
Stewart co-stars alongside Angarano, Michael Cera, and “PEN15” co-creator and “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” star Maya Erskine, who is also Angarano’s real-life partner.
The official logline reads: “When free-spirited Ricky suddenly reappears in father-to-be Glenn’s life, the two former best friends embark on a spontaneous road trip from LA to Sacramento in Michael Angarano’s original take on the buddy comedy.”
Actor/director Angarano co-wrote the script with Chris Smith, with the duo also producing along with Stephen Braun,...

Exclusive: Mark Duplass is set as the male lead opposite Ellen Pompeo and Imogen Faith Reid in Orphan (working title), Hulu’s eight episode limited series starring and executive produced by Pompeo.
Written by Katie Robbins, who serves as showrunner, the series is inspired by the true story of Natalia Grace and the Midwestern couple who adopted her believing she was a little girl with dwarfism but gradually started to believe she may not be who she said she was.
Duplass will play Michael Barnett, at the time husband of Pompeo’s Kristine Barnett, and adoptive father to Natalia (Imogen Faith Reid).
In 2019, Michael (Duplass), an upbeat Midwestern dad and retail manager, was charged, along with his ex-wife Kristine (Pompeo), for the neglect and abandonment of their daughter Natalia, whom they adopted in 2010. Already in the public eye because of Kristine’s bestselling book The Spark– about raising their son Jacob,...

Fever Ray, the alias of The Knife’s Karin Dreijer for her solo project, has announced the release of Live at the Troxy, which was recorded during Dreijer’s March 2018 performance at Troxy in London, England. It will be released on August 2nd via her label Rabid Records and Mute.
The performance was in support of 2017 sophomore album, the compelling Plunge. The 16-track set comprises songs mostly from her second LP, alongside a smattering of other tracks, including haunting standouts “When I Grow Up” and “If I Had a Heart” from her excellent self-titled 2009 debut.

Five filmmakers have been selected as the finalists of the inaugural Igtv Film Festival, with each film now screening at the Sydney Film Festival Hub.
The Igtv Film Festival is a joint initiative between Instagram, Sydney Film Festival and Vice for emerging filmmakers under 35. The theme this year was ‘Future’, and entrants were encouraged to share a sense of what it’s like to live in Australia today, and what it might be like in the years to come — whether it’s the environment, identity, politics, food, or sport.
The winner – who will receive $5,000 and $2,500 worth of equipment hire from Panavision – will be selected next week by an industry jury which includes Sydney Film Festival director Nashen Moodley from Sydney Film Festival, Instagram Australia strategic partner manager Zaac d’Almeida, and Vice Australia head of video Katy Roberts. The public will also vote on a People’s Choice Award.

“I found myself,” Maggie Rogers sings on her major-label debut, “when I was going everywhere.” In 2016, Rogers played her song “Alaska” for Pharrell Williams at an NYU undergraduate seminar. A video of the performance went viral, resulting in a major-label deal, an Ep and a sold-out headlining tour all within a year of graduation. And so, the 24-year-old spends her first proper album making sense of what it means to be Maggie Rogers after skyrocketing into a peculiar form of semi-stardom. At its core, Heard It In a Past Life...

The six-minute training montage in “Creed II” was a chance for composer Ludwig Göransson to make a “big statement” with his music. Göransson needed to work within the constraints and themes on both the original “Creed,” which he also composed, and the iconic “Rocky” theme music, while giving the audience something new and epic.
“I’m always trying to experiment and come up with new palettes of sound and new combinations of music that you haven’t really seen or heard in film before,” Göransson told TheWrap. “I’m just constantly figuring out new ways to reinvent myself. And if it’s combining ’70s jazz with Puccini and 808 drums, I’ll try that.”
And the result? Göransson put together a grandiose composition that marries modern hip-hop production with a traditional string orchestra and even a hint of ’70s jazz instrumentation as a nod to the original film. Hearing it as...

British producer Ross From Friends took the hype machine by storm last year with his brand of “lo-fi house” – a waterlogged take on dance music that’s chill, wistful, strange, insular and fun. Unlike the harsher, grimier works on outsider labels like Opal Tapes and L.I.E.S., Rff worked more like the dance music equivalent of Ariel Pink or Mac DeMarco: never pretending pop bliss needs to be equated with high production values.
However, beyond a few hypnogogic parts – most notably a lo-fi-to-hi-fi fakeout in the first...

“I, Tonya” has become the surprising wild card in the editing race, with Tatiana Riegel snagging both an Oscar nomination and an Ace Eddie win Friday night. That’s because director Craig Gillespe went with a fascinating mockumentary-like approach to notorious figure skater Tonya Harding (Oscar-nominated Margot Robbie, who also produced) that skates tonally between absurdity and tragedy. Allison Janney also received a Best Supporting Actress nod as Harding’s acerbic and abusive mother, Lavona Fay Golden.
“It’s a film you don’t expect to see about Tonya Harding and you don’t feel the same at the end,” said Riegel. “There are a lot of interesting elements dealing with [violence] and class issues and not being allowed to be yourself.”
