It indeed was fortuitous that on the hundredth birth anniversary of Dev Sahb or Dev Anand, his one of the most famous muse in his cinematic journey – Waheeda Rehman, was conferred with the Dada Saheb Phalke award. Jury may be out whether she should have been conferred with the award earlier than those who got it during the last few years, but it is redemption time for Waheeda Rehman and her fans who continue to increase in proportions with every new appearance that she condescends to either in a movie or on various entertainment channels on television and Ott platforms.
Conferring of the Dada Saheb Phalke Award for me was also an occasion to travel down memory lane and relive those memories. The first brush with Waheeda Rehman was when we watched Bees Saal Baad (1962) at Gorakhpur in a club. Those were the days when movie watching was considered a...

New Delhi, Sep 26 (Ians) One of Hindi films’ most talented and versatile actresses – and still going strong, the exquisite and enchanting Waheeda Rehman, who caps a remarkable stint with the prestigious Dadasahab Phalke Award, carved out a niche with confident renditions of unconventional roles, including some very bold for the era – and could have spelled doom to her career.
Starting with Telugu and Tamil films in 1955 before switching over to Hindi cinema the following year, she did the usual roles expected of Hindi film actresses but also went on to play a prostitute, a gangster’s moll, a nautanki actress, a woman who walks out of a marriage without regrets, et al – but with such innate grace that she has always been a byword for refined sensibility.
Born in fairly comfortable circumstances – her father was a Deputy Commissioner – on February 3, 1939 in what was Chingalpet town of the Madras Presidency, Waheeda...

Mumbai, April 13: The plot of TV show "Anamika" bears strong resemblance to the 1988 film "Bees Saal Baad", but lead actor Mudit Nayar says the story of the show is developed on a regular basis, and it is not copied from anywhere.
"You might think that some traits of the story match the film, but genuinely, we are not copying from anywhere. The characters and the story are developing on a regular basis. It's not like we have already written the script...," Mudit said here in an interview.
"Even I don't know where the track would go, we shoot according to the development in the story. Right now it's tough to say if the story is similar.

From reincarnations to haunted mansions. From vindictive oatmeal faced corpses to shape shifting nagins, Bollywood has bravely offered a plethora of films in the name of horror over the years. Although many of these films may lack in finesse, they still manage to offer some scares (along with a bag of laughs). Siddhant Pillai investigates…
Golden Age of Horror; 1940s-1960s
A still from the classic Mahal
In a country obsessed with lost souls and reincarnation, it was natural for filmmakers to dabble in this facet of the supernatural. Perhaps the first path breaking film in this genre was Kamal Amrohi?s 1949 hit, Mahal. The film was replete with a spooky house filled with life size portraits, grandfather clocks, swinging crystal chandeliers and a haunting tune (Aayega Aanewaala) carried by the air and sung by an elusive candle-lit lady. The movie was a box office hit and paved the way...

The memoirs of Manu, a cinema-loving flight attendant, who over 30 years in the air, encountered some of the biggest, finest and funniest Bollywood stars?
The Beautiful Dimple Kapadia
On an evening flight out of London, about a quarter of a century back, the gorgeous Dimple Kapadia sauntered into the first-class of the aircraft. She was followed by more than the regular entourage of London?s airport ground personnel from our esteemed (in those glorious days) airline!
Dimple Boards the Aircraft
It is extremely difficult to recount how stunning she looked in her large, red furry overcoat, dutifully taken off her slender shoulders by one of our crew. As she settled in her seat (4-j), pulling off her long black woolen gloves, she could very well sense the flattering glances from each and every one around. Dimple?s famous flowing tresses enhanced her beauty even more, and each time she moved...
