Game Of Thrones season seven, we hardly knew you. You arrived, secretly fitted all your characters with invisible jet packs so they could zip around whole continents as if they were just popping to the shops, and then in the flap of a dragon’s wing, you were gone. Three episodes shorter than the previous runs, the seventh season solved the show’s annual ‘how to top last year’s massive episode nine’ problem by simply not having one. Genius.
Figuratively though, there was an episode nine in season seven. It was episode four The Spoils Of War. And episode six Beyond The Wall. And a little bit...

I’m a sucker for crime fiction, whether it’s served up by Raymond Chandler or by Harlan Coben. As a kid, my passion for adventure stories started it all. But like a Chevy Impala on a rain-soaked highway, my interest slid all over the road. I’d devour mysteries, detective novels, pulps and crime thrillers.
In the world of comics, lately we’ve been treated to outstanding fantastic crime thrillers. Ed Brubaker leads the way, of course, with his various crime noir and spy series. Greg Rucka’s stuff is always fun and I hope Oni publishes more Stumptown soon. And other publishers, like Dynamite, Idw, and Boom! Studios have been providing strong contributions as well.
In the traditional book world, Hard Case Crime has been on the forefront of hardboiled crime fiction. Charles Ardai is the man behind it all, and he combines his love for this genre...

The Summer Olympics are under way, and so it’s the perfect time to look back at some of our favourite films about this magnificent sporting event.
These five films captured the heart of the Olympics in one way or another, whether it was through the perseverance of an underdog, or the nature of competition that can drive some to madness. Some are based on true stories and others are inspired simply by all of the excitement that the Olympics entail. All in all, it makes for some epic cinema.
Check out our five favourite films about the Olympics below!

No, I didn’t spell that wrong. I just think all Americans should have the right to a free pair of bear arms. For protection. Or something. Ok, I lied. I just like to be coy with my titles. But, as always, I digress.
A while back, in response to the “Religious Freedom and Restoration Act,” I’d likened the right-wing penned law as being worthy of super villainy. Now, I find myself once again questioning how the Grand Old Party has now become the party of Ultron, Lex Luthor, and Dr. Ben Carson.
Somewhere between Donald Trump desiring to build a wall to protect us from Mexican rapists, Carly Fiorina proclaiming Planned Parenthood as a secret fetus-selling black market, and Jeb Bush basically aping a parody of his own brother a la Aaron Sorkin (no, seriously), it’s sad that Dr. Carson’s recent verbal pile-ups haven’t awaken new ire in me,...

It's no question that Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder are madly in love. After getting engaged this January after six months of dating, the pair hasn't been able to hide their affection for one another on and off the red carpet. One of the many reasons the talented duo works so well is because they simply admire each other's skills and passions. "We are a great team," Reed told E! News at the 6th Annual Lindt Gold Bunny Auction benefiting Autism Speaks. "We love supporting each other's causes." One of those important projects is spreading awareness about Autism. In fact, it's the subject of her new film Think Normal available online now. The...

There's a few things Nikki Reed wants people to know about her younger brother, Joey, who has autism. "He inspires me on a daily basis," the actress, 26, tells People. "He wants people to learn about autism and to know that not all autistic people are the same. And beyond anything, she adds, "He's just a kid. A really, really rad kid." As spokesperson for the Lindt Gold Bunny Celebrity Auction, which launches Tuesday and benefits Autism Speaks, Reed is passionate about countering labels and fighting stereotypes. "What is important is to treat everyone like an individual and learning not to generalize autism,...

Review Becky Lea 25 Nov 2013 - 22:00
Becky's faith in Ripper Street is somewhat restored by this week's character-based episode. Here's her review...
This review contains spoilers.
2.5 Threads of Silk and Gold
It’s a tale of forbidden desires in this week’s Ripper Street as Reid, Drake and Jackson investigate a young man’s murder in a dingy hotel room in Whitechapel. From there, the trio discover a pair of telegram boys who run a line in blackmail of wealthy homosexual clients on the side, but soon find themselves caught up in an escalating trail of conspiracy leading to one of London’s major banks.
Thematically speaking, it was another strong episode, looking at the conflict between desire and duty amongst both the supporting and main cast of characters. With the characters of David and Vincent, the scheming lovers, it was a simple enough tale of a relationship forbidden by...

Gene Barry was a suave leading man in films and television from the 1950s. He was best known for his starring role as Dr. Clayton Forrester in George Pal’s 1953 film adaptation of H.G. Wells’ The War of the Worlds. Several years later he again faced alien invaders in the underrated sci-fi film The 27th Day (1956).
He was born Eugene Klass in New York City on June 14, 1919. He began his career as a singer in nightclubs and variety shows, and was appearing on the Broadway stage in the early 1940s. He made his film debut in the 1952 sci-fi/spy thriller The Atomic City.
Barry was also a familiar face on television from the early 1950s. He starred as the dapper western lawman William Barclay `Bat’ Masterson in the Bat Masterson series from 1958 to 1961. Barry also starred as Captain Amos Burke, the suave Los Angeles Chief of Detectives who would arrive...

Writer/director Ari Gold also stars as the title character Power in this underdog/rock n' roll/road comedy. The story is as simple as it's protagonist: Power is a full-on loser, who works at the local energy plant with his gruff union leader dad Harlan (Michael McKean) and lives in a tent on the front lawn of his eccentric hippy aunt Joni (Jane Lynch) while persuing his dream of being a respected "air drummer". You see, Power never got to have a real drum set growing up, so he has done the next best thing, he's learned to mimic his heroes in the empty space in front of his face.
After a mishap at work, when Power accidentally pulls a lever and covers one of the big bosses in raw oil while getting his groove on, he is given his walking papers. This happens right before his dear old...
