It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963)
This really isn't a review.....
...since I first saw this movie in 1963 when it opened in my hometown of Salt Lake City, UT. I was 14 years old and went with a church group. The theater where it played did fund raisers for local churches and I remember my mom giving me money to go, which seems like about $1.00. The theater had a big curved; I think was called Cinerama but not sure now.
Anyway, I was so taken with IAMMMMW and it had been playing a while and I saw that it was playing at a different theater; smaller and farther away but it didn't matter. I saw it there at least twice.
I think the next time I saw it was after I was married in 1973 and VHS tapes hit the market. I had a copy of it on VHS and then moved on to DVD when that came about.
I know that in a box someone in my garage, I have about 40 DVD's of movie I love. Whether I'll dig out IAMMMMW since it's available online in several places.
Anyway, I've read about it and talked to others about it and it just dawned on me that for a long time Carl Reiner was the last living cast member. And now, as of 6/29/2020 there are none of the major stars around.
I love IAMMMMW. I know there's some slow parts and things that don't make sense. Doesn't matter to me....
Airplane II: The Sequel (1982)
I loved the original Airplane although it doesn't really hold up.....
.....so when they announced Airplane II I was excited to see it. My wife at the time was several months pregnant but she didn't think baby would come. We went to an afternoon showing of this and about 30 minutes into it, she whispered "It's Time..." so we left the theater and she had a baby girl, who is 38 years old this year. And I never got around to seeing it first run. I saw it once months later on VHS at someones house but didn't remember much about it since there was a big crowd.
About a year ago, I went to a yard sale locally and bought this and 4-5 other DVDs for $1.00 each and finally got around to watching II.
All of the actors are just way over the top, except William Shatner who acted just about the way he acts in everything he does.
See this movie, you'll cringe at the bad joke but realize that there's no other way to do a movie like this.
The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015)
Glad I saw the whole movie....
....I liked the TV show as a kid (and yes, I am that old) but don't remember much about it. When this movie came out, I took my adult daughter to see it and she got sick so we left about 40 minutes into and I've just never got around to seeing it until tonight. I like both the leads and Alicia Vikander (who knew she won as Oscar?) It look great, story was a little confusing but I liked the special effects and the soundtrack. Glad to have seen it
The Mummy Returns (2001)
Today is March 23, 2019, almost 18 years since this opened in theaters.....
....and I come back and watch it at least every 4-5 years. Kind of like The Mummy 1999. I'm an old guy and I remember as a kid in the 50's seeing the 1932 version with Boris Karloff on Nightmare Theater on TV Friday night. It might have been scary, don't remember but it always made me appreciate the whole idea of a mummy. I like The Mummy from 1999 and was excited to see The Mummy Returns with all the originals. I will say that if Dwayne Johnson had stuck around playing the Scorpion King his career would have gone bye-bye. I liked all the actors here and I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that Oded Fehr as Ardeth Bay deserves every good role he's had since then. Silly story, great special effects if a little ragged at times but it's still a worthy continuation of the original. Now then, maybe 5 years from now I'll come back again or I might watch The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, although probably not.
Poirot: The Adventure of the Clapham Cook (1989)
I've seen this first episode of couple of times........
.....and had forgotten how simple it is, compared to the later episodes when most of them were a couple of hours long. I liked this story, even it is a little preposterous (although I guess most of Poirot's stories are sort of preposterous).
It's nice to see the regulars so young looking and I'd totally forgotten how cute a young Miss Lemon was, and how she was totally efficient from the first episode.
And since I've watched all of the Midsomer Murders etc, it's fun to see how many actors appear in one and then another.
