Yves Boisset's best work
11 March 2024
Among many others of course, but this one remains the best example of what Yves Boisset was able to do in terms of daring and "hot" subjects. Yes, Yves Boisset was the only French director in those times, and even till now, to be brave enough to evoke political matters, rotten affairs, corruption of elite political guys, involved with the underworld. Everything here is purely flawless: action, directing, story telling, atmosphere. It is gritty, taut, bleak,, exciting. Downbeat too. Yves Boisset is a unique director, for nearly all his career, he offered us films, topics that other directors avoided as if it was plague, contaminated subjects. A real must see. Marcel Bozzuffi is also terrific in the gangster role, Bozzuffi, the heaviest of the french movie industry, the equivalent of a Leo Gordon, Jack Palance or Charles Bronson.
