A great sequel to a good comedy or the Amazing adventures of famous Gauls: part two
10 December 2023
Comedy. A direct continuation of the first picture "Asterix and Obelix against Caesar", and at the same time a reworking of the second cartoon about the adventures of two bosom Gauls "Asterix and Cleopatra". The picture was set against the background of the commercial success of the first part - and turned out to be much better than the original (and this sometimes happens). This surprised me, and I even had to raise the final grade higher, because this comedy deserved it. And here's my brief opinion - An excellent continuation of a good comedy. Despite the nostalgia, I will note here both the advantages and disadvantages (which were necessary). And this should be the end of this introduction and move on to the interesting.

So, the advantages: 1. Scenario - The dazzling Cleopatra (ruler of Egypt) challenges Caesar. She promises to build the most luxurious palace in the world for him, and in just three months. The architect is appointed the architect of the Cannabis, who, in case of failure, is waiting for the hungry crocodiles of Cleopatra. To prevent this from happening, Nomernabis asks for the help of Panoramix, Asterix, Obelix and the dog Idefix. Our heroes will be hindered by the envious architect Goblinus and even Caesar himself. Amazing adventures are waiting for our beloved Gauls again, fights with the Romans (and not only), they will even explore local attractions (and even slightly damage them). Someone is waiting for their first love. The ending is predictable, but that doesn't make the story told bad. Yes, there are no turns here, but there is plenty of everything else.

2. Humor - if the first part was exclusively for children, and was filmed specifically for them, then the second is already suitable for family viewing, because there is a very diverse humor (although not always funny or funny). Only children will laugh at some jokes, only adults will laugh at some, and absolutely everyone will laugh at the rest. And in general, in terms of humor, this part outplayed the first one. I sincerely laughed (and sometimes laughed) at many points. Big greetings to the screenwriters!

3. Aesthetics - the picture here is juicy, bright, the decorations are generally as if they had come off Egyptian drawings. At the same time, all this is harmoniously combined. There are practically no dark colors. In general, it's beautiful.

4. The characters are not all, but most of them are bright and memorable. Otis, Centurion Kai Soplus, Gnidobus, Kai Antivirus, Givmiekis and so on. Each of them is interesting and has its own character. They are interesting to watch. I'm not talking about the main characters.

So, the disadvantages: 1. Caesar - he is played by the director of this film Alain Shaba himself - and he plays him extremely unconvincingly, and to put it mildly. No, this is not the worst Caesar in this series, but he is very far from the charisma of Gottfried Jon. Caesar Alyona is such a naughty uncle with whom you can leave your children for the weekend. But he doesn't look like Caesar himself. Gottfried turned out to be Caesar at the same time majestic and funny, and Alain turned out to be a kind uncle.

2. Costumes - of course, I understand that this series is not about a story at all, which the creators treat extremely freely, but this is too much. Ridiculous clothes of the Egyptians (although not all), green tunics on Roman legionaries (this did not happen), shields are painted blue (also a fantasy of the creators, although in reality there was another pattern on these shields and in general it was a drawing from one of the legions, and here it is in Gaul, and in Egypt). Caesar's clothes are a joke to the chickens, just a disgrace. Everything hangs like a saddle on a cow.

3. Kai Soplus - he is a Negro, and he is Caesar's centurion (despite the fact that all other commanders and legionaries are white). It seems a little strange to me alone. And don't write to me about the Germans - Caesar's personal guard, it has nothing to do with it. Considering that the character jokes extremely badly. Well, at least his helmet resembles the notorious Darth Vader headdress.

The actors (in most cases) played well. Christian Clavier, Gerard Depardieu, and the beautiful Monica Bellucci looked good here, and played too.

And the second part was also a box office success, which means the creators decided to continue milking the series, in 2008 releasing the third part called Asterix at the Olympic Games, but we'll talk about it another time.

My rating is 9 out of 10 and my recommendation for viewing!
