Steve McQueen: A Star Is A Star Is A Star1
5 January 2021
Steve McQueen was a truly great Star. He dominates this classic TV show!

Dick Powell who developed Four Star into a TV powerhouse: Burke's Law, Rogues, Richard Diamond, Robert Taylor and the Detectives, Saints and Sinners and a classic Western Barbara Stanwyck in The Big Valley, etc Four Star developed Steve McQueen as a huge star in Wanted Dead Or Alive. Steve McQueen totally always in control is splendid in this classic TV show. The show ihas guest starred with many splendid supporting players. The episode that I saw the other day co starred Luana Patten who was given a buildup at MGM. Each episode is well done. Four Star was a firm owned by David Niven, Charles Boyer, and Mr. Powell. Hindsight as the great Billy Wilder once said is "20/20" and they should have kept McQueen in the Four Star camp making him a shareholder. Steve McQueen could have been the Fourth Star in Four Star Productions. McQueen could have given Four Star entry into he movie market. Years later as McQueen became a mega star he joined Barbara Streisand and a few others in "First Artists" a boutique movie firm.

Steve McQueen was never easy to deal with. Read a book by the Mirisch Brothers dealing with Steve McQueen on The Magnificent Seven movie. On the Towering Inferno, Steve demanded first billing over Paul Newman- McQueen had been a featured player in a previous Paul Newman film when he was starting out and he wanted to be billed over Mr. Newman in The Towering Inferno.( McQueen dropped out of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid at 20th because Newman would not yield top billing to Steve McQueen!) - on a huge hit "Towering Inferno". A 20rh/WB joint venture with a truly star cast William Holden, Jennifer Jones, Fred Astaire, .Richard Chamberlain, Faye Dunaway, et al. McQueen got his wish on first billing on The Towering Inferno and actually counted the lines Newman had in The Towering Inferno and demanded and got more lines than Paul Newman,

McQueen was a unique star, complex, driven, and unforgettable.

Steve McQueen died far too young..
