WrestleMania 27 Thoughts

WrestleMania XXVII was the 27th annual WrestleMania taking place at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia on April 3, 2011. Attendance was 71,617 making it the 3rd best at attendance in WWE History. This event was notable for The Rock returning as the host after 7 years of absence from the WWE. The Rock returned to Raw a month before this event after Vince announced WrestleMania would be getting a host from one of the all-time greats. John Cena would be challenging the Miz in the Main Event for the WWE Championship and Triple H and Undertaker started a feud that WWE saw as a continuation from the Undertaker-HBK story that would put the streak on the line. One last notable thing was this show would have Edge's final match before announcing retirement a week after this night.

The Good - Triple H vs. Undertaker was an instant classic as the two tore the house down. This match was originally discussed to be the main event as many at the time felt like the Streak was more important at WrestleMania than the World title matches. It certainly was when you watch the show and see the crowd after the match. Despite Undertaker winning, it was dubbed by WWE as Undertaker winning the match but Triple H winning the war as Undertaker never even walked out of the match by himself. Edge wrestling his match against Alberto Del Rio (someone I honestly never liked) was a pretty good match and ironically a perfect ending to Edge's career (at least at this time *wink* *wink*).

The Meh - I thought 2 of the undercard matches were good but could have been better. Randy Orton vs. CM Punk was good but it was kinda slow paced that the crowd were getting dragged. Cody/Rey was getting really good but unfortunately the match didn't have a good length. They both would have a better match the following month. Now The Rock. As great as it was having him the host, you can clearly tell the Rock was holding back on the promos due to limits now of wrestling being PG. Like The Rock still had it but they were too cheesy something you honestly couldn't blame the Rock for.

The Bad - Opening with a promo to kill time? Wow!!! How smart!?! This show in general felt like an extended Raw. I unfortunately do remember the build up to this wrestlemania and The John Cena vs. The Miz championship match was doomed from the start as Cena was more engaging with trash talk from The Rock than going after the WWE Championship. The Main Event was a snooze fest as the Miz still wasn't accepted like how he would be 5 years later. Of course the angle at the end to set up John Cena vs. The Rock for next year ruined part of the Miz's championship reign. The mixed tag team match and the 8 man tag were both bland The worst thing about this show Michael Cole vs. Jerry Lawler. I unfortunately will not even discuss the embarrassment of the match as it's one of the most infamous booking that even Vince himself was angry about backstage. Also bland crowd during this event

Overall - This is arguably the one WrestleMania that just didn't feel like a WrestleMania as it just felt like a random special WWE Show. I do remember WWE losing a lot during this period as for the past 2 years. Jericho, Batista, Jeff Hardy, Edge, and HBK all leaving, Undertaker and Triple H moving to part time, and the roster was just becoming more thin as the brand split was finally ending. Very dull show mostly to only look back at it for the Streak match between Undertaker vs. Triple H.
