I just viewed a feature film entitled FEAR . . .
17 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
. . . which has almost he same plot as THE LUCKIEST GUY IN THE WORLD. True, the longer movie is based on a thick Russian novel, and focuses upon a single guy in medical school, while this brief piece traces the career of an embezzler in some sort of collection racket. I'd also have to admit that the young unmarried dude who fiendishly plots to wrap up a near-worthless glass ashtray with so many knots for his package that the pawnbroker guy expecting a silver cigarette case is sufficiently distracted to allow himself to be bludgeoned to death with his own fire place poker might be faulted a little bit more than the money leech husband who inadvertently knocks his wife down into a fatal encounter with their bedroom radiator as he's filching her inheritance cash. However, BOTH of these guys are total losers who find their Luck changed with college scholarships, unexpected loans, real estate deals and winnings at the horse track falling into their wallets as soon as they sate Fate's thirst for blood. It's not their fault, really, that one of them soon gets crushed by a cement truck crossing a street without looking, and the other suffers a fatal hit by an errant slug as soon as he innocently steps out on the sidewalk at the beginning of a police shootout. As the song says, Karma is a real chameleon.
