Based on the John Irving novel, "The World According to Garp" is brought to the screen by screenwriter Steve Tesich and director George Roy Hill.
The movie is a very funny and poignant story about an off beat mother and her 'bastard' son. This is a look at life through their eyes, unorthodox as their view is. "Garp" never fails to invoke the emotions. Much credit must go to the top performances from Robin Williams, Glenn Close and especially John Lithgow, outstanding as an ex-footballer who has had a sex change. The film has a lot to say about life, love and family, and does it well.
