Pretty straight forward for a Lynch film

Warning: Spoilers
***SPOILERS*** ***SPOILERS*** I don't see why there is any confusion about this film. We see throughout the film a few glimpses of reality, but most of it is a dream. And like a dream, the dreamer will get an idealized version of themselves and people they know in real life will play different parts. Near the end of the film you get the 'real' story of what is going on. Spoiler. The plot is Diane/Betty character commits suicide because she ordered a hit on Rita/Camilla. We don't know if the hit was successful or a figment of Diane's imagination. We just know that Diane commits suicide. Diane probably just wanted to be like "Rita" she got the parts that Diane wanted to get and Rita/Camilla was going to marry the famous director. Were Diane and Camilla former lovers? The masturbation scene opens it up for a debate. It seems Diane was a borderline stalker and a failed actress.

Whatever the case unlike the 'Twin Peak's' television show when DL was making it up as he went along. There is a complete story somewhere in this film.
