Film Noir? This is the REAL thing!
1 September 1999
Folks who describe LA Confidential as the ultimate in film noir need to see this movie, which almost defines the genre. The atmosphere in 1940's San Francisco is so thick and smoldery you could cut it with a knife. The chemistry between Bacall and Bogart was obviously heating up, but it's a tribute to their acting abilities that they keep it on a leash for most of the film. San Francisco-philes will want to see it just for the settings . .. especially Bacall's apartment!
