Walt Disney Studios has reached the $3 billion global box office milestone for 2015 — the fastest it has ever crossed the mark — fueled by the successes of “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Cinderella” and “Inside Out.”
It’s the sixth consecutive year and the ninth time overall that Disney has achieved the milestone. The studio hit the mark on June 30, five weeks faster than the previous record set last year on Aug. 5.
Disney announced on June 25 that it had crossed the $1 billion domestic threshold, setting a studio record time of 174 days.
“Inside Out” won the Wednesday-through-Sunday period in the U.S. with $45.3 million, giving it $246.2 million in less than three weeks. International grosses have hit $117.3 million from 45% of markets, led by Mexico with $24.9 million, Russia with $17.2 million and Australia with $13 million.
