Things are definitely going bump in the night in Jack Heller’s new creature feature. A highly anticipated entry in this year’s Screamfest, the foremost horror film festival in the country, “Dark Was the Night” will feature Kevin Durand (“Lost”), Bianca Kajlich (“Rules of Engagement”), Lukas Haas (“Inception”), Nick Damici (“Stake Land”), and a decidedly creepy something lurking in the woods. Previously titled “The Trees,” the script by Tyler Hisel appeared on the 2009 Black List of best unproduced screenplays. That year’s list, compiled and voted on by over 250 film executives, included “The Social Network,” “The Spectacular Now,” and “Prisoners.” Dylan K. Narang, Stefan Nowicki, Dallas Sonnier, and Heller himself began production in 2012, filming in Southampton, N.Y.
