Last year The 15th annual Fantasia Film Festival unleashed one of it’s biggest and best slates to date. Among its 114-film lineup were gala world premieres of Robin Hardy’s long-awaited The Wicker Tree – a film which Sound On Sight’s own Justine Smith called, “not only a great genre film, but a film that pushes the boundaries of cinema itself, easily on par with the works of our greatest contemporary filmmakers.”The Wicker Tree of course marked the follow up to the seminal 1974 Pagan masterwork The Wicker man. Hardy wasn’t the only veteran filmmaker present for a World Premiere. Among the many great guests were the directors of the anthology horror film The Theatre Bizarre, which featured segments by Douglas Buck, Buddy Giovinazzo, David Gregory, Karim Hussain, Tom Savini and one of my personal favourite filmmakers, Richard Stanley (Dust Devil, Hardware).
