Welcome to our review of this year’s Ring of Honor Final Battle pay-per-view, the latest PPV under the auspices of Tony Khan – a year after Roh’s future looked bleak during the last Final Battle show! Let’s see what went down…
Roh Final Battle – Zero Hour: Match #1: Jeff Cobb def. Mascara Dorada The following is courtesy of rohwrestling.com:
Mascara Dorada jumped off the ropes with a Mexican arm drag takeover on Cobb. Outside the ring, Cobb caught Dorada and smashed him into the steel ring post! Cobb went to work on the ribs and back of Dorada, trying to neutralize him. Dorada ducked a clothesline and hit Cobb with a spectacular tornillo over the top rope on Cobb! Dorada followed up with a springboard senton onto Cobb for a near fall! Cobb yanked Dorada off the top rope and squashed Dorada with a standing moonsault for a two-count.

Welcome back to another review of Aew Dark: Elevation, this week features nine matches once again and a number of big-name stars rather than jobbers! We’ve got Ian Riccaboni and Paul Wight on commentary, so let’s get into the review…
Match #1: Abadon def. Amy Rose
My Thoughts: Amy Rose makes her Aew debut getting annihilated by Abadon. Hey, at least she got some offence – and remarkably a one-count – before the match was over! Squash-tastic action.
My Score: 1.5 out of 5 Match #2: Roh Six-Man Tag Team Title Match – Dalton Castle and The Boys (Brandon and Brent Tate) def. The Trustbusters
My Thoughts: Wow. We get an Roh title match on Elevation. Surprising. What’s not surprising is how not into this match the crowd was – which really hurt proceedings Imho. Good to see Dalton Castle and The Boys in action but let’s not let the Trustbusters anywhere near those titles ever again,...

Another week, another episode of Aew: Dark which is another stacked 10-match card; which is one less match than last week I suppose… On with the review!
Match #1: Marina Shafir def. Sio Nieves
My Thoughts: We’re in quasi-squash territory for this one. Unfortunately Shafir hasn’t lived up to her potential so far but there’s still time for her to develop in matches like this or… Maybe its time to get Shafir a manager as a mouth piece? Her in-rings skills are fine but she seems to get distracted by the storytelling aspects of wrestling.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5 Match #2: Ari Daivari def. Ar Fox
My Thoughts: This was a great match between two guys that are always seemingly under most fan’s radar(s). This was a fantastic display of technical wrestling from Daivari and Fox. I may not like Daivari’s new faction but...

Welcome to this week’s review of Aew: Dynamite, which was broadcast live from the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia. We’ve got Excalibur, Tony Schiavone and Taz on commentary so let’s get into the review!
Match #1: Bryan Danielson def. Matt Menard The following is courtesy of allelitewrestling.com:
William Regal joined the commentary team for this match. Menard shoved at Danielson. Bryan fired back with European uppercuts. Menard took the fight to Danielson with shots to Danielson’s forehead. Danielson answered with round body kicks. Menard pushed Bryan off the top rope sending Bryan spilling to the arena floor. Matt Menard whipped Danielson into the steel barricade. Back in the ring, Bryan’s kicks battered Menard. Bryan followed up with a clothesline, taking Menard off his feet. Angelo Parker pulled Menard out of the ring. Danielson attempted a running knee but Parker pulled Matt out of the way.

Ring of Honor is back again for another pay-per-view, this time Death Before Dishonor, which sees all but one match on the main card be a title match! Talk about putting it all on the line… Let’s get to it.
Roh: Zero Hour Pre-show Match #1: Colt Cabana def. Anthony Henry The following is courtesy of ringofhonorwrestling.com:
Anthony Henry was making his Ring of Honor debut tonight. Henry ignored Colt’s attempt at a handshake and recognizing the Code of Honor. Henry and Cabana displayed beautiful chain wrestling. Henry clubbed Cabana with forearms. Anthony Henry blocked a sunset flip from Colt and then wrenched Colt’s neck. Henry mounted Colt and ground and pounded him. Henry took Colt off his feet with a thrust kick to the midsection. Henry locked Colt in the bow-and-arrow but Colt escaped. Cabana was riled up after Henry kicked “Boom Boom” in the chest.

Welcome to this week’s review of Aew: Dark which comes from Aew Universal and features nine matches this week. Once again we’ve got the winning team of Taz and Excalibur on commentary… Let’s get into the review!
Match #1: Kris Statlander def. Avery Breaux
My Thoughts: We open this week’s Dark with one of Aew signature matches. The quasi-squash. With Kris Statlander in control of this one, giving Breux just enough time to get in a modicum of offence. What really marked this match out was the silence… This Aew Universal crowd were quiet. Like really quiet for this match!
My Score: 1.5 out of 5 Match #2: “Daddy Magic” Matt Menard & “Cool Hand” Angelo Parker def. Eli Isom & Tug Cooper
My Thoughts: Match number two and squash number two. This was little more than a chance for the now stupidly named Matt Menard & Angelo Parker to get...

Welcome to this week’s review of Aew Dark: Elevation, we’ve got Excalibur, Mark Henry and Paul Wight on commentary and an 8-match card. Let’s get right into the action!
Match #1: Julia Hart def. Abby Jane
My Thoughts: Abby Jane makes her Aew debut in a squash match against Julia Hart, who’s clearly been taking lessons from someone in the back – unleashing a couple of chops on Jane that sounded like they really hurt! Hart is still selling the black mist, this week the dark patch under her eye is significantly bigger than previously; and she’s getting more and more aggressive. Perhaps we’re due the final turn for Hart real soon?
My Score: 2 out of 5 Match #2: Anthony Ogogo def. Goldy
My Thoughts: Another squash match for Anthony Ogogo. Though it looks like, as with Julia Hart, some improvements have been since his last televised match.

Welcome to this week’s Ring Of Honor review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and Ring Of Honor is the only league as of late who is doing this right. It’s a pleasure to be here to promote episode 501 of Roh TV. Let’s see how it turns out.
Match #1: Eli Isom vs. Dak Draper (Time Limit Draw) The following is courtesy of rohwrestling.com
Two rising stars who appear destined to be wearing championship gold in the future will square off in a one-on-one match for the first time, but certainly not the last. Since returning to Roh last month, Isom has recorded impressive victories over Rey Horus and Lsg. In 2018, less than a year into his career, Isom scored pinfalls on former Roh World Champion Christopher Daniels and Shane Taylor. Draper, the 2019 Top Prospect Tournament winner, is 10-2 (.833) in one-on-one matches in his Roh career.

Match #1: Mark Haskins defeated Alex Shelley The following is courtesy of rohwrestling.com:
A back-and-forth battle between master technicians ended with Haskins forcing Shelley to submit to the Sharpshooter.
My Opinion: 3.8 out of 5 – This was some great stuff. The action was smooth, like fine tobacco. Smoke. Shelley and Haskins have a similar way of moving out in the ring that makes them mesh together really well. Smoke. Haskins got more out of beating Shelley than he did what’s his ass from Dudleyville. Smoke. Overall, this was a hell of an opener. Are You Smoking Yet?

Match #1: Silas Young and Josh Woods def. The Bouncers (Beer City Bruiser and Brawler Milonas), Coast 2 Coast (Lsg and Shaheem Ali) and Soldiers of Savagery (Moses and Kaun) The following is courtesy of rohwrestling.com:
All four teams had their moments in the match, but in the end it was Young and Woods who prevailed to remain undefeated. Young catapulted Lsg into Woods’ flying knees for the win.

Match #1: Silas Young defeated Josh Woods The following is courtesy of rohwrestling.com:
Before locking up, Young grabbed a microphone and told Woods that he’s been in Roh about two years and hasn’t accomplished anything. He said Woods should be winning titles and earning the respect of his peers but even the fans don’t respect him. Young said Woods has a lot of learning to do before he earns respect. He told Woods to put up or shut up. Young handed the microphone to the referee, and as the referee turned to hand it off to a ringside attendant, Young kicked Woods low and locked on an inside cradle.

Match #1: The Briscoes defeated The Bouncers – Ring Of Honor World Tag Team Title Match
My Opinion: 1.5 out of 5 – The Briscoes did fine here, but this just wasn’t much of a match. Going around ten minutes, this felt like a bowling ball landing on your foot and only hurting half as much as you thought it would. Black took control of the fast-paced match by targeting Isom’s upper body. Isom came back with a Death Valley Driver for a near fall. Isom went for a springboard move, but he slipped off the top rope and landed hard in the ring. Black hit a super hurricanrana followed by a springboard 450 for a near fall. Black finished off Isom with a moonsault into a double stomp.

Welcome to this week’s review of Ring Of Honor, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have a couple of good ones to go over, so let’s see what you might make of them.
Match #1: Silas Young beat Jonathan Gresham The following is courtesy of rohwrestling.com:
Right from the opening bell, Young and Gresham engaged in a fast-paced exchange of technical wrestling holds. Surprisingly, Young not only kept up with Gresham, but he was actually a step ahead. In a display of supreme confidence — or arrogance — Young voluntarily gave Gresham his wrist. Young quickly countered Gresham’s offense and gained the advantage. Young offered his wrist a second time, and the result was the same, which frustrated Gresham. Gresham then offered his wrist to Young, who responded by landing a blow to the back of Gresham’s head. Young went on the offensive,...

Match #1: The Briscoes and Silas Young defeated Shinobi Shadow Squad The following is courtesy of rohwrestling.com:
Anyone expecting the Briscoes and Young to steamroll 3S quickly found out that wasn’t going to be the case. The underdogs gained an early advantage with quick tags and a stick-and-move approach. Eventually, the Briscoes and Young isolated Cheeseburger. After Cheeseburger tagged Isom, Isom entered the ring with a head of steam and hit a Death Valley Driver on Jay Briscoe for a near fall. After Jay Briscoe recovered, he hit a Death Valley Driver of his own on Isom, and Mark Briscoe followed with Froggy Bow. The cover seemed merely a formality,...

Welcome to this composited version of The Last Week In Wrestling, where I’m going to take three weeks’ worth of wrestling and do a special edition where we cover a whole lot of wrestling. For this time only, we’ll pick the best of the three weeks for our usual categories. Next week, we’ll be back to normal, but this is a chance to get back on schedule, so let’s do so before Kathleen Kennedy fires me for letting Chewbacca improvise some of his lines.
Best Promo:
Curt Hawkins Redemption (WWE) – Curt cut a fine promo about wanting to become a great champion, starting with Zack Ryder and going from there. The idea is he knows he’s a loser and wants to change all of that. This felt very genuine and when you can tap into some-thing like that, you really have some-thing great to share with people.

Match #1: Tracy Williams beat David Finlay The following is courtesy of rohwrestling.com:
Iwgp U.S. Champion Juice Robinson, who is a close friend of Finlay, sat in on commentary. Williams controlled the pace early with his mat wrestling skills. He also showed that he can deliver high-impact moves, as he hit a single-arm Ddt on the turnbuckle followed by a big clothesline for a near fall. Finlay came back with a Sambo backbreaker for a near fall and a devastating clothesline of his own for another two count. Williams answered with a Death Valley Driver for a near fall before finishing off Finlay with a piledriver. Williams and Finlay adhered to...

Welcome to this week’s Ring of Honor review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have more action from a league that is doing what it can to adjust in the wake of the existence of All Elite Wrestling, given that the new promotion has stolen its thunder as Roh nears the big Madison Square Garden card. Let’s see how every-thing goes with this show and what may be happening next.
Match #1: Juice Robinson defeated Pj Black by disqualification The following is courtesy of rohwrestling.com:
Robinson extended his hand for the Code of Honor, but Black gave him a chop to the chest instead of a handshake. That fired up Robinson, who knocked Black out of the ring and hit him with a springboard crossbody over the top rope. Black eventually took control by using aggressive tactics and bending the rules. Let’s get right to the action.
Match #1: Eli Isom defeated Façade – Roh World Television Title No. 1 Contender’s Mini-Tournament The following is courtesy of rohwrestling.com:
Facade used his cat-like agility and quickness to stay a step ahead of Isom early in the match, but Isom gained the advantage after hitting a big suicide dive and then a belly-to-back suplex into a bridge for a near fall. Facade answered with a spectacular springboard step-up 450 clothesline to the floor. Back inside the ring, Facade connected with a Neon Hammer and Neon Terminator,...

Match #1: Zack Sabre Jr. defeated “Hot Sauce” Tracy Williams The following is courtesy of rohwrestling.com:
Sabre was making his much-anticipated Roh debut, but anyone thinking he would have an easy time with Williams was mistaken. Williams took the fight right to Sabre and matched the master technician hold for hold and counter for counter. Williams hit a Death Valley Driver for a near fall. He then applied the Texas Cloverleaf, but Sabre turned it into an inside cradle for a near fall. Williams answered with a hard clothesline for a near fall. Sabre landed a series of strikes and then applied his Hurrah submission move. Williams could not escape and had no choice but to tap out.

3S beat John Skyler, Cory Hollis and Josey Quinn – Six-Man Tag Team Match
My Take: 2.5 out of 5 – This was a nice opening bout, but it didn’t do much to make this feel like a big PPV. The action was good, but none of it was beyond what you’d expect from a random tag match.
Mark Haskins beat Beer City Bruiser
My Take: 2 out of 5 – Beer City spent too much time pandering to the crowd for a match that didn’t have much going on any-way. Mark should have been booked with some-one more his speed, but there’s always a...

Kenny King defeated Eli Isom The following is courtesy of rohwrestling.com:
Before the opening bell, King grabbed a microphone and talked down to the rookie. King said Isom represents the new Roh Dojo, but he’s old school. King then hit Isom in the head with the microphone. Thanks to that cheap shot, King controlled the match in the opening minutes. King appeared to have the match won after hitting a springboard Blockbuster, but...

Match #1: Jeff Cobb beat Shane Taylor
My Take: 3 out of 5 – This was like watching two bulldozers ram into each other for over ten minutes… and that’s a compliment. I like-a da smash-smash! Cobb is wrestling machine who can pack a wallop into any-thing launches at his opponent. Taylor is not too far behind, but his weight is still holding back from doing all that he is capable of. How-ever, Taylor was able to show much more than he has in his last few matches and did some incredible slams that felt like they were coming out of nowhere. Make no mistake about my opinion of Shane Taylor, which...

Page took the fight outside the ring early in the contest and rammed Sky into the barricade twice before lawn-darting him into the ring post. Back in the ring, Page set up for a move off the top rope, but Sky caught him with a leaping hurricanrana for a near fall. Sky had two more near falls before Page connected with a lariat.

Match #1: Eli Isom beat Shane Taylor, Flip Gordon, and Chris Sabin – Fatal Four-Way Match
My Take: 2.5 out of 5 – This was a good match that never got to go beyond the numbers. The match was built around the idea that only two wrestlers could be in the ring at a time, so there were tags. This is in line with the way many of the old X-Division matches used to work in Tna/Impact. Speaking of the X-Division, we had Chris Sabin in here, who is a former X-Division Champion, as well as a former Tna/Impact World Champion. Sabin was at his...

Match #1: Chris Sabin beat Scorpio Sky
These guys had my favorite match of the card. Sabin and Sky had a very even, methodically paced match that blended the X style and technical wrestling into a smart bout. Sabin was back in his singles briefs here, rather than his Motor City Machine Gun gear, which proved to be a bit of fore-shadowing that we’ll discuss in the News Of The Night section of the review. Let’s jump into the Ring of Honor!
Match #1: Kushida beat Johnathan Gresham
This was as exciting an opening match as you’ll get in this day and age. These two were like watching a mirror clash with itself, as these two have an offensive strategy that is nearly identical. The wrestling here was very well paced and a stark contrast from a lot of what Ring of Honor usually books. The big surprise here is that a tremendous amount of the match is on the mat, with numerous holds flowing into great locks that helped set the right tone.

Match #1: Kelly Klein beat Jenny Rose – Women of Honor Match
The first thing to mention about this match is that this was one of potential versus execution. Klein continues to be a wrestler who has the potential to be a great shooter, but her awkward stances and positioning makes her look to common to be a ruthless bastard. I also am concerned about her lack of knee-pads, which Hulk Hogan and Cody Rhodes would both mention are a life-saver for your legs in the long run. I know Klein must feel like it gives her a raw, stripped-down appeal, but it leaves her too prone to injury in a part of her body that really needs to be protected.

Match #1: The Kingdom beat Los Ingornerbales de Japon – Ring of Honor Six-Man Titles Match
This was a solid opener with lots of action. Both teams looked good here, with Taven functioning very well as the leader of his team. Taven really has come a long way since he first arrived in Ring of Honor. Lidj is consistently entertaining and did not break that streak here.
