Adapting the biography of a singular figure is hard enough, but how do you adapt the autobiography of a band? Bassist Nikki Sixx, guitarist Mick Mars, drummer Tommy Lee, and Vince Neil joined forces to make Mötley Crüe, one of the most successful bands of the 1980s and well-documented hedonist troublemakers.
In 2001, all four members of the band along with Neil Strauss released an autobiography called "The Dirt," describing the group as "the world's most notorious rock band." The book shot to the top 10 on the New York Times Best Seller list and stayed there for 10 weeks. On a personal note, I used the book as the subject of my own freshman year biography project book report in 2004, when I showed up to school dressed like Nikki Sixx and delivered my presentation in full character ... much to my teacher's chagrin.

If that title is tripping you out a bit don’t worry too much since it’s about as literal as it gets. Mr. Peabody & Sherman do have a connection, and it does have something to do with Modern Family since Ty Burell, who plays father Phil Dunphy on the show, and Ariel Winter, who plays Alex, both contributed to the movie featuring the brainy beagle and his adopted son. As stories go, that of Mr. Peabody and Sherman is perhaps one of the odder bits to ever come out of Rocky and Bullwinkle fame, but it does have the type

A classic slasher movie and loving homage to horror and geekdom begins in a haunted comic book shop on Supernatural
This Supernatural review contains spoilers.
Supernatural Season 14 Episode 4
The fourth episode of Supernatural Season 14 brings us a lot of laughs with hilarious nods and homages to classic horror. Does it advance the season arc? Hardly. But it gives us a fun episode perfect for the day after Halloween.
We’ve had geek-pandering moments, fandom baiting, and homages in Supernatural before, but “Mint Condition” is the most homage-y, most nerd-inspired episode yet. Sure, it might have been a bit much at moments with all the nerdy references, but I loved it.
At the comic shop is a Red Hood standie that Sam made a funny face at. It’s funny if you understand the connection. Jensen provided the voice for the character in the animated Batman: Under the Red Hood. Not only that,...

“Teen Titans Go! to the Movies,” a brash and blithe-spirited animated comedy adventure for kids, demonstrates that when it comes to superhero movies, meta has become the new normal. The whole meta fixation in mainstream movies didn’t start with superhero films, of course. It probably goes back to “Scream” (1996) or even “Last Action Hero” (1993). Yet it was still startling, in 2014, to see how far “The Lego Movie” — a picture that invited three- and four-year-olds into its big tent of fun — could push the notion of look!-we’re-using-Lego-blocks-to-construct-a-fantasy-world-that-we’re-also-deconstructing-the-concept-of.
“The Lego Batman Movie” nudged the cheeky self-awareness a notch further by using it to tweak the mindset of Bruce Wayne, a rich-dude vigilante with narcissistic personality disorder who enjoyed being Batman not because he liked saving people but because he loved the image of himself as Batman. And it wouldn’t be farfetched to say that “The Lego Batman Movie” was influenced,...

“The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle” executive producer Scott Fellows knew a voice was missing when the casting team replayed the audition tapes for the show’s titular flying squirrel. “Where’s Tara Strong?” he asked.
Strong had submitted voice auditions twice for the character of Rocky — once for the initial call, which proved unsuccessful, and another when her agent told her Rocky would be recast. Until Fellows inquired, casting agents had pushed her auditions aside. But upon hearing her tape, they immediately changed their minds.
“This is no fault of any studio, but a lot of times they say, ‘Oh that actor’s on everything, so let’s try new blood,'” Strong tells Variety. “Which truthfully is silly because voice actors who work all the time do so because they’re versatile, and sometimes you have no idea it’s that person.”
