Monday night’s “American Idol” (April 2) delivered the final judgement, with judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan narrowing down the contestants from 50 to 24. One by one, each singer had to look fate in the eyes, and with that came several shocking eliminations.
First on the stage was 16-year old Layla Spring, who bravely took on the Ike and Tina Turner classic “Proud Mary.” Although Bryan said the judges were nervous about putting a teenager through, Spring’s vibrato improved (a directive Perry instructed her to work on), and she made it to the top 24.
Michael Woodward, who seemed so green during auditions, had clearly blossomed in the weeks that followed. On Sunday night’s show, he impressed with the song choice of “Maybe This Time” from “Cabaret,” and on Monday he picked an equally risky tune, “You Oughta Know” by Alanis Morissette. The revival of “American Idol” on ABC is following the same format as did on Fox for 15 seasons. On the April 2 episode, host Ryan Seacrest will reveal the Top 24 contestants, who will then fight it out over four episodes for a place in the live shows that start on April 22. These two dozen hopefuls were culled from the Top 50 that were revealed on the April 1 episode. To cut this number by more than half, the three judges — Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie — had the contestants sing again.
The Top 50, which was made up of 26 men and 24 women, took to the stage at the Exchange club in downtown Los Angeles on Feb. 8. If you can’t wait till Monday night to learn the results, scroll down to see the names of the 12 men and 12 women that made it through to the Top 24 as well as the songs they sung...

The “American Idol” revival on ABC is following the same format as it did on Fox for 15 seasons. After five episodes focused on auditions, the show shifted to Hollywood week on the March 26 episode. The April 1 installment will continue that part of the process. Expect plenty of fireworks as the three judges — pop princess Katy Perry, country superstar Luke Bryan and Oscar-winning singer/songwriter Lionel Richie — decide which of the hopefuls to take forward in the competition and which will get a farewell hug from host Ryan Seacrest.
Over the course of the three episodes devoted to Hollywood Week the contestants sing in three rounds: lines of 10, groups, and solos. The judges will winnow the list down to 50 who will sing in a showcase set to air on April 2. They will be culled down to two dozen and those Top 24 will be judged on both solo performances and celebrity duets...

After a two-year break “American Idol” is back for season 16. This time around the reality competition series may air on ABC but it is following the same format as the 15 seasons that ruled the ratings on Fox. While Ryan Seacrest is back as host, the three judges are new: pop princess Katy Perry, country superstar Luke Bryan and Oscar-winning singer/songwriter Lionel Richie
They gave a whopping 169 contestants tickets to Hollywood at their auditions, which were spread out over five cities: New York, NY, New Orleans, La, Nashville, Tn, Savannah, Ga and Los Angeles, CA. Appropriately enough, these try-outs aired over the first five episodes of the season. The hopefuls were winnowed down to just 50 in three rounds as they sung in lines of 10, groups, and solos. The first of these Hollywood Week episodes aired on March 26 and April 1.
The Top 50 then gathered at Exchange in downtown Los Angeles on Feb.

Singing competition show American Idol just returned to television for its 16th season on March 11, but fans already seem to have a frontrunner in mind: Britney Holmes. In fact, they've been rooting for her for months now… ABC, Idol's new network, actually aired Britney's audition back in November. During the 2017 American Music Awards, the show's judges introduced the Idol aspirants they thought deserved a second chance, and Britney was Katy Perry's choice. "I met this incredible young lady in Nashville," the Witness singer said. "She came to audition, and she had an incredible voice." After that lofty praise, it was Britney's time to shine. She launched into a soulful rendition of James Bay's hit "Let It Go," and the performance was enough to put her over the top in the subsequent viewer vote! During the Dancing With the Stars finale a day after the AMAs, Lionel Richie announced...

If you stumbled upon the American Idol reboot and wondered, "Why is American Idol back?" You're not alone. The singing reality competition show had a grand (and memorable) farewell season in 2016 after running for 15 seasons on Fox. It was a success, for most of its run, but due to rapidly dropping ratings the network decided to nix the show. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, ABC announced they obtained the rights and were reviving the show with new judges and a new ho... just kidding, of course, Ryan Seacrest came back. So, how did this head-scratching reboot happen anyway? According to BuzzFeed News, Fox planned to bring Idol back in the future — just not one season after airing the "final" season. "It feels sad that it's coming back on another network," co-ceo and chair of Fox Television Group Dana Walden explained. "We spent about $25 million sending a clear and persistent message...

Settle down, “American Idol.” Oh wait, that’s exactly what the new ABC singing competition did Monday night in terms of its Nielsen ratings. NBC’s “The Voice” clobbered ABC’s new property, as “Idol” dropped 22 percent from its Sunday return. With “The Good Doctor” beating up on “Good Girls” at 10 p.m., the Disney-owned broadcast net nearly matched NBC’s primetime average in the key 18-49 demographic, ultimately coming up one-tenth of a ratings point shy. At least “Idol” continues to improve upon its ABC time slots. Also Read: Harper Grace Gets 'American Idol' Redemption 6 Years After Viral 'Worst National Anthem' (Video) With CBS...

A lot of people wanted to take a knee on Harper Grace’s 2012 national anthem — which since went viral — but the now-16-year-old singer just totally redeemed herself on “American Idol.” The singer-songwriter from Texas wowed all three judges on the new ABC version of the singing competition, first performing an original (we assume is) titled “Yard Sale.” She then blew them away further with an even-more capable cover. Grace’s chops prompted Katy Perry to hijack the high-schooler’s dream board and officially welcome her to Hollywood. It looks like Katy Perry has a thing for dark-haired guys with guitars! On tonight's episode of American Idol, she had zero chill during Trevor Holmes' audition because she was too busy swooning over him. Nicknamed "dreamboat" by Katy's fellow judge Luke Bryan, the singer/songwriter from Thousand Oaks, CA completely charmed Katy with his looks — and he blew the judges away with his voice. Trevor introduced himself and explained that his main passion is music, but he works part-time as a construction worker to support his mother who suffers from Lupus. But while Trevor was explaining his situation, Katy interrupted him to tell him he was hot. "Here’s the thing, only hot guys are typically named Trevor. Trevor, he’s hot, he does construction on the side, and he loves his mom," Katy said, explaining why he was such a catch. The "Swish Swish" singer continued to hit on Trevor,...

She's coming for her second chance! When she was just 11 years old, aspiring singer Harper Grace went viral in the most embarrassing way. Back in 2012, Harper got what she thought would be her big break — singing the national anthem at major league soccer game that was televised nationwide. But it quickly went viral for all the wrong reasons and ever since, she was known as the girl who performed one of the worst national anthem renditions ever — and now she's hoping to redeem herself on American Idol. "If you search the worst national anthem, mine is the very first that ever pops up next to Christina Aguilera and Roseanne Barr, so I was like, 'You know what? At least my name's out there,'" the McKinney, TX native told Ryan Seacrest. The story made headlines and 11-year-old Harper was even interviewed for a segment on ABC News shortly after the...

No one was surprised that Armie Hammer nabbed his first Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Call Me By Your Name, but you may be surprised at how far the star's come since his first red carpet interview with E! News back in 2010. The fresh-faced actor first chatted with E! at the premiere of his first big movie, The Social Network, which also starred Jesse Eisenberg, Justin Timberlake and Rooney Mara. The 31-year-old attended the New York premiere of the film with his new bride Elizabeth Chambers, whom he married the same year. The couple now has two children, Harper Grace and Ford Armand Hammer.
