Lisa Gray, a budding art restorer who travels to the small Italian village of Sambuci just outside Rome to bring a medieval painting back to its former glory for a wealthy and titled client. Little does she know she is placing her life in danger from an evil curse and a monster born of myth and brutal pain.
I have been a fan of Federico Zampaglione’s genre work since I saw his film Shadow in 2009. Then came the original cut of Tulpa back at Frighfest 2012. It’s safe to say I was one of the Only people who reviewed that screening and that cut positively (and then went on to review the recut just as glowingly) and saw what Zampaglione was trying to achieve.

Federico Zampaglione’s new horror film The Well will have its world premiere at Sitges this Friday, October 6th. It will have its North American premiere at LA Screamfest the following week, on Tursdya, October 12th. The poster for the flick was unvealed today. It features actress and model Melanie Gaydos standing behind a well that is overflowing with blood. A bold choice, as lead actress Lauren Lavera is still riding the wave of success from Terrifier 2 and that would usually be what a production would want to put front and center in their marketing. Hopefully there will be more about The Well in the coming days as the premieres roll out. Poster art for Federico Zampaglione’s new horror film The Well...

Vesper, directed by duo Kristina Buozyte and Bruno Samper, written by Buozyte, Samper and Brian Clark, follows a young girl as she searches for a way to fix her father’s life support system and eventually replenish the largely diminished food supply on a destroyed Earth.
Since there’ve been examples of just about every world-ending event across every medium, it’s hard to come away with something truly unique in the apocalyptic department. Buozyte, Samper and Clark know this and abide by an acceptable, oft-told story, but add flavour between beats.
An opening crawl informs us that the world has been torn asunder by efforts to fix it; genetically engineered food, organisms and viruses wreaked havoc on the population except for those that live in “citadels,...

Set in “the new dark ages” — a ruined tomorrow in which the engineered viruses and organisms that humanity created in order to stem the planet’s ecological crisis have escaped into the wild and remade life on Earth into a dreary (but awesome) Cronenbergian wasteland full of fleshy droids, bioluminescent critters, and trees whose spores try to suck out your internal tissue while you sleep — Kristina Buozyte and Bruno Samper’s “Vesper” has already drawn several comparisons to the likes of “Stalker” and the Andrei Tarkovsky-inspired “Annihilation.” It’s easy to see why.

"Pilgrims, drifters, bandits. You have to be really careful who you trust." IFC Films has debuted the full-length official trailer for the sci-fi film titled Vesper, formerly known as Vesper Seeds, in theaters this September. It just premiered at the 20221 Karlovy Vary Film Festival last month, where I saw it at the world premiere and gave it a mostly positive review. After the collapse of Earth's ecosystem, Vesper (played by Raffiella Chapman), a 13-year-old girl struggling to survive with her paralyzed Father, meets a mysterious Woman with a secret that forces Vesper to use her wits, strength and bio-hacking abilities to fight for the possibility of a future. This has some crazy cool style, and a strange hybrid-organic future that kind of mashes up 12 Monkeys and Avatar and The Road. It also has a few smart ideas of its own. Vesper features Raffiella Chapman, Eddie Marsan, Rosy McEwen, Richard Brake,...

With his first feature writer/director Quarxx has literally expanded and built upon his short film A Nearly Perfect Blue Sky, turning it into All The Gods In The Sky. The result is a bold psychological horror film dealing in themes of madness, guilt, mutilation and alien invasion. It's a film which will impress some and madden others, but it won me over perhaps just for its sheer audacity and weirdness. It is probably not a film with which to relax over a nice cup of tea on a Sunday afternoon, but if you do take the plunge you'll be rewarded with one hell of a trip.

Expanded from his own short (A Nearly Perfect Blue Sky), this unsettling body horror from self-monikered director Quarxx slots neatly into the New French Extremity movement, popularised by the likes of Martyrs, Frontiere(s) and Haute Tension. By turns queasy, disturbing and unexpectedly moving, it’s an accomplished and divisive debut that marks a strong calling card for its writer-director-editor.
Jean-Luc Couchard plays Simon, a 30 year old factory worker who lives in the remote French countryside with his younger sister Estelle (Melanie Gaydos), who was left severely disabled after a childhood game went horribly wrong. Haunted by guilt and fiercely protective of his sister, Simon goes to extreme lengths to protect her when social services come calling. At the same time, he appears to be losing his grip on reality,...

Plenty of people — ex-boyfriends, friends, industry people — have doubted Melanie Gaydos’ ability to break through as a model, but she never did.
The 28-year-old was born with ectodermal dysplasia, a rare genetic disorder that limited her body from fully developing in womb. Gaydos lacks hair, most teeth, nails and any soft bone or tissue.
Gaydos says she was “always very shy,” growing up, but not because of how she looked.
