Exclusive: Director Nony Geffen’s (Not in Tel Aviv) next project will be Live Well Done, a documentary telling the story of Army Sergeant turned stand-up comedian Bobby Henline.
The film produced by Ben Segal of Scott Rudin Productions will follow Henline as he goes on a cross-country road trip of the U.S. from comedy clubs to arenas.
“We are going to explore humor as a means of dealing with the post-traumatic experience and inspire people to find the positive in life, despite our obstacles,” said Geffen. “We’re going to discover Bobby’s inspiring tale through the different perspectives found through America and the ways in which people use humor to connect.”
Henline is a 4-tour Iraq War veteran, a Purple Heart recipient, and a Wounded Warrior—a veteran of Desert Storm by age 19, who was inspired to re-enlist after the attacks of 9/11. While serving as a paratrooper...

Screen rounds up the films from across the globe that could launch at Cannes…
With less than a month to go until the Cannes Film Festival announces its line-up at its annual Paris press conference on April 14, Screen looks at what could make it into Official Selection and the parallel sections of Directors’ Fortnight and Critics’ Week.
UK and Ireland
The UK could have one of its strongest Cannes for years with hot favourites for a competition slot including Andrea Arnold’s Shia Labeouf-starring Us road movie American Honey and Ken Loach’s gritty Northern England-set drama I, Daniel Blake. It would be Loach’s 12th time in competition.
Ben Wheatley is also reportedly gunning for an Official Selection slot for his 1970s Boston-set, gangland thriller Free Fire, potentially Out of Competition or in Midnight Screenings. He was last in Cannes with Sightseers in Directors’ Fortnight.
Other UK hopefuls include Stephen Frears’ Florence Foster Jenkins and Indian...

In Israeli director Nony Geffen's film "Not In Tel Aviv," a newly-unemployed high school teacher finds himself spinning perilously out of control. Within days of losing his job, Micah rekindles a spark with an old crush, kidnaps a teenage student, kills his mother, and takes on police, feminists and movie stars alike, all part of a wild, wholesale rejection of his small town's stultifying conventions. "If you look just at him you may not understand but if you look at the bigger picture it’s funny because he doesn’t know what to do with himself," Geffen says. "He acts like he's mentally retarded." Where did your creativity take root? "I was Born and raised in a distant, horribly boring village in Israel, with no cable TV and no internet connection, surrounded by a whole lot of nothingness, I had plenty of time to devote to my imagination.A year ago,...

The AFI Film Fest (11.01-11.08) have announced the line-ups for our favorite sections at the fest in the Young American selections and New Auteurs section and they’ve managed to stack up on titles that are amongst the year’s best and which in the case of two films were mysteriously passed over by the likes of Telluride, Tiff and Nyff. Michel Franco’s After Lucia (see pic above) and Antonio Campos’ Simon Killer will be making the Los Angeles premieres accompanied by the best title to come out of the Main Comp at this year’s Cannes edition in Sergei Loznitsa’s In the Fog. This trio will be joined by a trio of gems that recently premiered at Tiff in: Maja Miloš’ Clip, Gabriela Pichler’s Eat Sleep Die and Tobias Lindholm’s A Hijacking. In the Young American Selections we find some filmmakers (Sean Baker and Amy...

While Cannes’ Quinzaine struggles to reframe its identity, its former artistic director Olivier Père continues to impress in his new job at the Locarno Film Festival. On Wednesday, he and his programming team unveiled a lineup that is absolutely salivatory, a who’s who for high-minded cinephiles. Perhaps most impressive of all, he has managed to once again nudge the festival’s selection aesthetic even deeper into esoteric ‘experimental’ territory without seeming all that radical. More than any other festival, Locarno is the home for the edgy projects that are too sophisticated for Cannes, whose cold shoulder to avant-garde narrative filmmaking becomes more glaring with each passing year. Check out the complete line-up at the bottom of this page.
