Call it a Mardi Gras for comic geeks or a mosh pit for monster fans, Comic-Con International was again the world’s largest epicenter for the eclectic masses July 9-12. More than 130,000 pop culture devotees gathered in San Diego, CA for a quasi-crazed kaleidescope that ranged from Batman Vs Superman cast member panels to previews of the anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
But amongst the hammers and shields of superheroes were also the axes and gallows of the grotesque and gruesome. Sdcc featured a session with Blumhouse Productions, with Elijah Wood and other producers praising and empowering the independent horror genre and its filmmakers.
It Follows, You’Re Next, The Gallows, Resolution, Unfriended, and The Visit are just a few of today’s successful horror movies coming straight out of the independent genre vault, making film festivals such as Sundance and Fantastic...

Theres no denying it David Robert Mitchells unorthodox creepfest It Follows was an extremely entertaining film. Its unlike anything hitting the market these days boasts some wildly chilling atmosphere kick ass performances and ultimately burrows under the skin long after viewing. In short it isnt too much of a stretch to label it the original picture that fans have been demanding now for ages. In fact fans have found it to be so enjoyable that theres already call for a sequel which you can bet well see inside the next few years.

David Robert Mitchells indie smash It Follows has taken moviegoers by storm. Initially it looked to be nothing more than an inspired little pic that would hit a hundred theaters or so before working its way to discs and maybe establishing itself as memorable. But thats not how it played out for Mitchell. Fans are devouring the flick and critics are labeling it the most inventive horror film (has everyone forgotten Cabin in the Woods already) in decades.

The writer and director of the spine-chilling It Follows tells us about the origins of his story and how it plays with horror conventions.
Like the threat in the film itself, It Follows loomed up at the Cannes Film Festival last May, scaring and beguiling a usually cynical crowd in equal measure.
Writer-director David Robert Mitchell's second feature - his first being the coming-of-age drama The Myth Of The American Sleepover - is a heady mix of clanging, overwhelming sound and an observant, lingering camera. About an ordinary teenager (Maika Monroe) pursued by a terrifying, malevolent force, It Follows is both reminiscent of all kinds of classic horror (including John Carpenter's Halloween) and an intelligent reworking of the genre's more familiar trappings.
Ahead of It Follows' UK release, we talk to Mitchell about the film's origins in a recurring nightmare, how he uses his prowling camera to create suspense,...

Michael C here in Sundance to report on a horror film that already feels like a cult classic even though it doesn't even come out until March.
Put into words, the plot of David Robert Mithchell's It Follows sounds almost comical in its simplicity. There is a creature that will follow you until it kills you. If you are unlucky enough to get this creature on your trail there is nothing you can do. You can try to run or to hide, to destroy it or to deflect it towards another victim. These strategies may have some effect, for an hour or a day, but they are all temporary. Sooner or later the creature will get you. It's in no hurry.
One might suspect that such a simple concept would get old fast, or at best amount to an entertaining genre exercise, but that is far from the case. By...

Every year, “Fringe” has rewarded its loyal viewers with mind-blowing season finales, and this year promises to be no different.
Executive producers Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman, of course, were reluctant to give us any spoilers (with a show like “Fringe,” we prefer to watch spoiler-free anyway), but they did offer that the characters’ “desperate, emotionally difficult attempt to stop (villain David Robert) Jones” probably wasn’t entirely successful.
Which means that all the pieces are in place for a showdown of epic proportions, with the futures of both “Fringe” universes hanging in the balance.
Even by sci-fi’s innovative standards, the storytelling and plot twists of “Fringe” have taken a lot of risks and introduced some pretty far-out-there concepts. But ironically enough, Wyman told us the storytelling has always been grounded in real, everyday life, taking a look at the difficult decisions we all face. (Click on the media player to hear J.
