Summer was heaven in 77
26 July 2007 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

The whole series was released on DVD in Japan in 2007 but in the UK only Marc's performances were issued on DVD. An excellent TV show with Marc Bolan on top form. You could see how nervous he was presenting in the first programme but he soon grew in confidence and by show 6 he had the audience in the palm of his hand. A further series of 13 shows was planned but sadly Bolan's untimely death put paid to that idea. Summer was heaven in 77. Bolan's band by 1977 consisted of Tony Newman on drums, Herbie Flowers on bass and Dino Dines on keyboards. Marc sang and played lead guitar and apart from T.Rex performing Dandy In The Underworld live on the show all other performances were mimed. Marc also sang three new numbers on the show, Sing Me A Song which was the theme music, Endless Sleep (a cover of the Marty Wilde track) and Let's Dance (a cover of the Chris Montez number. Many punk acts got their first TV break on MARC including Billy Idol, Boomtown Rats (featuring Bob Geldof), The Jam (featuring Paul Wellar) and Radio Stars (feturing Bolan's old mucker from John's Children - Andy Ellison).
