I’m not going to kvetch about American Idol failing to reward one of its dozens of worthy grads with a Thursday-night performance slot — there are only six weeks left, after all! — and instead using it to promote the doing-just-fine-already former X Factor judge Demi Lovato.

American Idol's voters always mess up the first week of voting and eliminate the wrong contestant, usually a girl. Think about last year's saucy 13th place finisher Ashthon Jones, or 2010's sweetly disposable 12th place finisher Lacey Brown. I'd have liked to see those dames trot it out another week, especially over their competitors Karen Rodriguez and Tim "Never Naked Enough" Urban. This year, Nigel Lythgoe wisely put the first week's verdict in the judges hands, allowing them to select an evictee between the lowest-vote-getting male and female contestant. Normally, Elise Testone would've gone home in a huff and we would've never seen her downtrodden Brett Butler impersonation again, but no, J-Lo anointed a different loser. And I'm thrilled about it.
Jeremy Rosado is your first loser, America. As I pointed out yesterday, he's the most infuriating type of contestant: Ok voice, no personality, fake humility. I have shivers.

Wednesday night's (February 9) episode wrapped up the audition portion of "American Idol X: Let's Just Let Everybody Win This Year," and producers couldn't resist walloping viewers with a doozy of a back story one last time. And no, I'm not talking about the girl who apparently farted in front of the judges. (Kudos for not actually showing us that footage, "Idol.")
To say James Durbin hasn't overcome obstacles is like saying there aren’t enough "Idol" audition episodes. The 21-year-old's estranged dad died of an overdose back when James was a sleep-deprived wee lad, and now he's living with Tourette Syndrome and Asperger's and a wife who compulsively covers their tiny apartment with inspirational Post-It notes. (That last thing might be the most difficult to deal with, honestly.) Oh, and he has a baby who crawls around diaperless, leaving a trail of tears and baby droppings in his poverty-stricken wake.

"American Idol" is here and Zap2it has been taking a stroll down memory lane to re-evaluate the previous nine seasons.

Now let's look at Simon's last season.

The Top 10 finalists from the ninth season of "American Idol" were on the air with Larry King Friday, May 28. It was like some sort of game, as he started with winner Lee DeWyze, then kept adding Idols until the gang was all there.
Only the Idols who are going on tour were present -- sorry Lacey Brown and Paige Miles. Also the gang will be back on Monday, May 31 to answer fans' Twitter questions. That airs at 9 p.m. Et/Pt on CNN, so be sure to tune in for more of your favorite finalists.
There's a trivia question Larry King poses in the last video -- what is the last stop for the "American Idol" tour. You can go to Larry's website to submit your answer and possibly win 2 tickets for the tour. There will be more tickets given away on Monday night too.
Thanks to Mj's Big Blog for the videos.

To the delight of hair metal fans everywhere, this year’s American Idol final 12 reunited on stage last night alongside rock God, Alice Cooper.
Crystal Bowersox, Siobhan Magnus, Didi Benami, Paige Miles, Michael Lynche, Casey James, Tim Urban, Lee Dewyze, Lacey Brown, Andrew Garcia, Aaron Kelly and Katie Stevens gave a fiery rendition of Cooper’s 1972 hit ‘School’s Out’, resplendent in St Trinian type school uniforms and accompanied by a heavily made up children’s choir.
The group and Alice were later joined on stage by Orianthi, who kept her costume in theme and wore a sparkly school dress.
We don’t know who lost more credibility last night. American Idol for allowing decent yet intrinsically uninteresting singer Lee DeWyze to win, or Alice Cooper, who used to be a rock God but these days is looking like a bit of a sell out more and more. Leave your comments below.

Mama Sox was robbed last night – but even she had a feeling that her ‘musical crush’ Lee DeWyze was going to walk away with the top prize this season on American Idol
I am beyond disappointed by the American Idol season finale May 26, if only for the reason that my girl Crystal Bowersox lost by a 2% margin. Two Percent. Highway robbery! That said, I suspected all along that Lee DeWyze might steal her glory and apparently, so did she.
“I knew Lee was going to win,” the 24-year-old Elliston, Ohio native confided post-show. She didn’t seem upset and explained that, throughout this whole experience, her attitude has always been laid-back and laissez-faire. Whatever will be, will be.
“I learned a lot about myself,” she continued. “I feel like I won because Lee won, and I respect him as an artist.”
Amazing attitude, don’t you think?...

The top 6 girls from this year’s American Idol were joined onstage for last night’s finale last night, by pop singer/songwriter Christina Aguilera.
Lacey Brown, Didi Benami, Katie Stevens, Siobhan Magnus and Crystal Bowersox started by giving fiery renditions of Christina’s hit songs Fighter and Beautiful and by the end it was clear that Crystal Bowersox was putting the rest of the girls to shame. She was the only one that deserved to be on the stage last night. Her strong vocals contrasted starkly with the horribly out of tune ones accompanying her.
However, that all changed when Christina appeared. Helping the contestants finish ‘Fighter’ the ‘Genie In The Bottle’ singer then launched into an emotional performance of her newest single ‘You Lost Me.’ After the “Idol” audience gave her some rapturous applause and a standing ovation, it became clear that Aguilera still has it, despite all...

Hey, Paula. Paula, Paula, Paula. Last night, during your goodbye speech to Simon Cowell, you showed the world why season 9 of American Idol has been so lacking. Why the series this season hasn’t boasted the same spark and awe of years past. Simply, it’s because your mere absence has sucked the joy out of the entire show.
And if you think I’m joking, you’d be wrong. I have been yearning for Paula’s infectious presence all season long — Idol is not Idol without a good dose of battiness. So what better way to celebrate her appearance...

Christina Aguilera may have taken a few years off to raise her son, but the singer proved she's back in a big way on the "American Idol" finale Wednesday night (May 26).
The singer — who will perform at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards on June 6 — tore into a stirring, soulful version of "You Lost Me," a track from her forthcoming Bionic LP, that proved, if there were any doubt, that she's got one of the best voices in the business.
Aguilera took the stage after this season's female contestants — Lacey Brown, Didi Benami, Katie Stevens, Siobhan Magnus and Crystal Bowersox — performed a medley of her hits "Beautiful" and "Fighter," emerging from below the stage to help put the finishing flourishes on the latter, then, as the stage went dark, stepping...

Crystal Bowersox and her ‘musical crush’ Lee DeWyze are in the finale on American Idol — but why would these two pals have a beef?
You called it, America! You’ve long predicted a Crystal Bowersox/Lee DeWyze showdown in the season finale, and last night you were proved right when sexy Casey James got the boot. But why would these two BFFs — who seemed genuinely stoked that they’d be facing off against one another — ever dislike the other?
It all went down with the flip of a coin. Following the results show May 19, Lee, Crystal and Ryan pre-taped the coin toss which determines the order in which the Idols perform on the May 25 finale. Mama Sox won, and chose to go second…but not without worrying that her friend (who clearly wanted to go second himself) was going to be upset with her decision.
“Are you going to hate me?...

American Idol's theme weeks this season have unevenly suited the contestants. Rolling Stones week is an obvious fit for Lee DeWyze, but a weak choice for then-eliminated Lacey Brown. Shania Twain week (tonight's episode) is the first theme to ever come close to suiting Aaron Kelly, while Michael Lynche is already preparing his "Goodbye, America" speech. It's time for a change. Here are five themes that don't skew towards one particular contestant -- and don't worry, I've done the heavy lifting and chosen songs for each singer. Caution: Kid Rock, Salt-n-Pepa, and major DioGuardi props ahead!

Outgoing American Idol contestant Katie Stevens has revealed that she may have to defer college for a year, because of her commitments to the Idol summer tour.
Katie was eliminated from the show last week after performing Elvis’ ‘Baby, what You Want Me To Do’ for the judges. Randy Jackson thought it was a ’sassy’ performance but Simon Cowell found it ‘annoying.’ The public obviously agreed because her lack of votes left Katie in the bottom two along with Andrew Garcia.
Speaking to the La Times, Katie revealed that she has big plans for her future music career and that those plans may mean that she’ll have to wait a while before getting her degree in college. She said:

Outgoing American idol contestant Katie Stevens has admitted that she won’t be able to go to her high school prom, because if her ongoing Idol commitments.
In an interview with People, the 17 year old Connecticut girl admitted that she will be too busy rehearsing for the Idol tour this summer to think about Prom dresses and corsages. She said:

But I’m going to go back home, hang out with my friends, keep up with school so that I can graduate and get my diploma. But I’m really looking forward to the tour and, hopefully, after that, writing an album.
When asked what kind of music she sees herself recording, Katie admitted that she looks up to former Idol winner Kelly Clarkson and would like to emulate her style.

Outgoing American Idol contestants Katie Stevens and Andrew Garcia have admitted that they were incredibly confused by the advice they received from the judges each week.
It seems to be a common complaint, former eliminee Didi Benami also slammed Simon Cowell, Kara DioGuardi, Ellen DeGeneres and Randy Jackson for not being ‘consistent.’
On last week’s Elvis themed show, Kara told Garcia that he needed more “swagger”, and Simon Cowell told him that “all the coolness has been sucked out of you.”
“They were extra confusing this year,” the 24 year old told CNN. “They tell you one thing, like ‘I don’t know about the swag…’ and I was like ‘What? I was doing my thing!’”
Katie Stevens agreed wholeheartedly.
“‘Katie, you should be R&B. Katie, you should be rock. Katie, you should be country,’” she said. “Yeah, definitely got confusing comments. So I think it’s ultimately important...

As part of the ramp-up to "Idol Gives Back," past "American Idol" contestants are volunteering at food banks around the country.
One of the charities receiving the "Idol Gives Back" aid is Feeding America and in addition to donating money, the past Idols are helping with the Feeding America backpack program.
The idea is that children have food during the week when they are in school, but once the weekend comes around, they might be going hungry. These backpacks are filled with nutritious things like apple juice, tuna, milk, mashed potatoes and spaghetti and meatballs. The kids can pick up the backpacks on Fridays and return them on Mondays, then pick them up again the following Friday and so on. Also included in the backpacks are informational packets about nutritional food.

It's no secret that "American Idol" thinks it's time for a female winner. The judges started talking up the female contestants before the show even started airing.
Then we got to the Top 24, where the first week would almost make one think "Idol" purposely stacked the deck -- there were many, many talented women and the men's first outing was largely disappointing.
By all appearances, "Idol" had created an easy pathway for the females to succeed in Season 9. And then the voting public took over. Once the genders were combined in the Top 12, a trio of female singers went home in the first three weeks (Lacey Brown, Paige Miles and Didi Benami). Suddenly, the odds have turned against the women, even if Crystal Bowersox seems to have already been crowned.

Well, Kara. Don't ever say Simon never did nothin' fer ya. The climax of tonight's American Idol results show was the judges' "unanimous" decision to save Big Mike from the jaws of irrelevance for another week, and the scene in the Idoldome as he sang for his survival was like something out of Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory: Verukara Salt wanted a golden goose, she wanted a golden goose now, and she was not going to stop until Daddy gave her one. Kara begged. She pleaded. She cajoled. She clenched her fists and stomped her feet and refused to take no for an answer.

We don't know if it came across on TV but when Michael Lynche was saved, the crowd went nuts. Absolutely bananas. Even our cold, black heart was moved and we may or may not have teared up just a teeny, tiny bit.
What else happened off-camera?
So that's what a Legion-of-Doom-Catwoman rock concert on a spaceship would look like...
Rihanna scares us a little. She's like a sophisticated sex robot, sent back in time to change the future for one lucky dude. The only part of the song we could hear over all the drums, guitar and grinders making sparks was the "oooh baby, I'm a rock star." We're pretty sure there are no other lyrics to that song.

After three weeks straight of girls elimination (Lacey Brown, Paige Miles and Didi Benami), Wednesday, April 7 episode of "American Idol" saw only men in the bottom three. Andrew Garcia, Aaron Kelly and Michael Lynche received the lowest vote for their performance in John Lennon - Paul McCartney week.
None of the three men were ever in the bottom three during the Top 12 performance before. The result was even more surprising when Adam and Aaron were declared safe while Mike who continued to impress the judges in previous weeks but this one was announced as the eliminated one. Seven weeks into the do-or-die tests that are the "American Idol" live shows, our singing students might finally be getting the hang of things. That's quite a change from week one, when MTV News wanted to hand nearly all of the contestants a failing grade and shove off for an early summer break.
But we stuck around the classroom, and Tuesday night's John Lennon/Paul McCartney-themed show might have offered the most consistent group of performances this season. Special gold stars go to Crystal Bowersox's didgeridoo and Lee Dewyze's bagpipes, both of which added an unexpected world music flavor that had heretofore been missing from the "Idol" curriculum. That's not to say everyone aced the evening. Mr. Aaron Kelly, we're looking in your direction.

Handing over the Lennon/McCartney songbook to "American Idol: Flatliners Edition" was a lot like letting an 11-year-old take a Rolls Royce out for a spin. In fact, the entire first act of the show Tuesday night (April 6) was dedicated to the judges and producers (and even Sir Paul himself) essentially telling the Top 9, "Don't f--- this up."
Thankfully, for the most part, they didn't. It was a trippy episode, filled with strange instruments and stranger audience members, but in a weird way it felt appropriate. After all, these were the men responsible for a TV movie that featured a waiter shoveling spaghetti onto an obese woman's table.
Before I get to the performances, I think it's important to address that George Harrison and Ringo Starr were never mentioned during Tuesday's broadcast. Weird, but also typical. Don't be offended by the snub, George and Ringo fans. "Idol" often refuses to...

We recently caught up with Paige Miles at the tail end of her six day "I Just Got Cut From 'American Idol' Now What Do I Do?" press tour (which included a positively stellar performance on "The Late Show With David Letterman"). Instead of posing the same five questions she had been asked a hundred times, I thought it'd be fun to kick back and bust out the crayons. One of the few things we learned about the schoolteacher was that she liked to relax by taking out a Crayola box and a coloring book. (I created a bunch of "Idol"-themed photos for her to color. Why fun in a hippo when you could scribble on Ryan Seacrest?)
Despite coming off a nasty bout with laryngitis and an even nastier kiss-off from Simon Cowell, Paige was in great spirits. As we doodled together, Paige cracked jokes about her unfortunate "Idol" journey,...

Didi Benami has become the third female in a row to be voted off American Idol, following Lacey Brown and Paige Miles.
After performing her rendition of “What Becomes of the Brokenhearted” on Tuesday night, the 23-year-old slipped to the bottom three along with Tim Urban and Katie Stevens.
Didi received the lowest number of public votes and though we kind of wish the judges had decided to save her, it was unlikely considering how they critiqued her performance on Tuesday. Simon told her she was ’swimming in jelly,’ Kara told her it was ‘overdone’ and Randy said that she ‘flatlined.’
Didi was very tearful when she heard of her fate and host Ryan Seacrest told the weepy singer:
“You are a very brave young lady,”
Didi also cried when rehearsing her song earlier this week and later revealed to People that it was because she was singing the song...

"American Idol" has got to another elimination night, and the result show on Wednesday, March 31 was jammed with pure entertainment. After Miley Cyrus, Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato entertained the audience last week, it was Usher, Diddy Dirty Money and Ruben Studdard's turn took the stage to deliver their performances.
Usher, who mentored the top 10 contestants for Tuesday night's performance, got on stage to sing "Omg" after Justin Bieber praised him as "a great influence" from the audience. The 31-year-old R&B star sported a black bowler and matching black suit with silver lapels during his performance, and was accompanied by dancers as well as collaborator will.i.am.
Other performers taking the stage were P. Diddy and his Dirty Money mates Dawn Richard and Kalenna. With violins and timpani sounds on the background, the three delivered their "Hello, Good Morning" song on a smoky stage. Halfway through the song,...

Paige Miles was voted off "American Idol" last week possibly due to throat problems, but tells Et that she's grateful to have been one of the top 12 remaining contestants. "I'm really proud of myself," she says. Miles calls the experience an "incredible journey" and "a journey that I never would've expected." She says of her time on the Fox show, "The greatest part of 'American Idol' has definitely been performing on stage. ... There's nothing like it." So, what's next for Paige? The singer tells Et that she plans to continue pursuing a career in music and that she's considering getting an apartment in Los Angeles with former "Idol" contestant Lacey Brown. She says the two are going to keep "fighting for our dreams." "American Idol" returns on Tuesday night at 8 p.m. on Fox when Usher will mentor the Top 10 for R&B/soul week.

Former American Idol contestant Paige Miles has blamed a bad throat and recurring health problems on her elimination from the show this week.
After revealing that she struggled with inflamed vocal chords throughout her time on the show, the 24 year old Florida woman told Fox News:
I wish some things had been done differently. There were a lot of things that played a factor in my sickness and everything. I have asthma and high blood pressure, which has been all over the place for the last couple of weeks. So all those things together have made it a tough road for me.

If the ouster of Lilly Scott, Katelyn Epperly and Alex Lambert was a miscarriage of reality show justice, "American "Idol" voters have been committed to rectifying the damage these last two weeks. Lacey Brown got the heave-ho last week, and on Wednesday (March 25) Paige Miles was given her walking papers. Who couldn't see either of those coming?
For two elimination shows running, our "Idol" panel has batted a thousand, which honestly says more about the predictable nature of the show than it does about our prognostication talents. As Mj Santilli of Mj's Big Blog put it, Paige was "monumentally awful" during her performance of Phil Collins' "Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)." She knew it. The judges knew it. Voters knew it. Our panel knew it. End of story.
After four weeks of "Idol" forecasting, here are the current standings.

Paige Miles is the latest contestant to be eliminated from this year’s American Idol. After a lifeless performance of the Phil Collins classic Against All Odds, the American public responded by failing to vote in their thousands.
In last night’s bottom three were the weakest performers. Tim and Paige, who the judges claimed had both stopped competing to win weeks ago. Both had given singularly out-of-their-depth performances of classic songs, with Tim Urban slaughtering Queen’s classic Crazy Little Thing Called Love. They were joined in the bottom three by teenage Idol Katie Stevens, whose ability to consistently sing out of tune led me to wonder how she had managed to slip through to the Idol Top 12. Every single one of them deserved to be in the bottom.
At the end, it was Paige Miles and Tim Urban standing shoulder to shoulder in the Bottom Two. Paige, a former preschool teacher from Naples,...

Lacey Brown has spunk and isn't afraid to show it! Throughout her Idol journey, the Texan native took risks, provided fans with solid performances, and many times impressed all four judges, and Ryan Seacrest! Last week, Brown took on the "Ruby Tuesday" on Idol's Rolling Stones night, which many thought was very risky. Check out what the judges had to say: Kara DioGuardi: "Hearing your voice right up there and clear is great." Randy Jackson: "Most interesting one of the night." Simon Cowell: "There was nothing wrong with the vocals, but you're overthinking it." Ellen DeGeneres: "It was a tiny bit sleepy, but I'm a fan of yours." At this point in the competition, it is hard to watch such talented musicians depart the Idol stage, but with many of them, you know it will only be a brief time before they are back in the spotlight.

Lacey Brown's 12th place finish on American Idol's ninth season may not have been exactly what she'd hoped for, but it beat her season 8 experience, where she managed to crack the top 54, but only saw her face flash on the screen for a hot, ridiculous second. Lacey stopped by the Idolatry studios to talk about getting snubbed in the year of Kradison, spiraling out of control during her semifinal performance of "Landslide," and missing out on a mentoring session with Miley Cyrus. Well, okay, she doesn't exactly dish the latter topic, but her facial expression is worth 1,000 words.

Paige Miles has had a bumpy American Idol journey and after last night’s performance we think that journey may be about to end.
On the Billboard #1’s themed show, the 22 year old chose to sing ‘Against All Odds’ by Phil Collins. She started off very weak and even though her voice got a little stronger later in the song, it was pitchy and the big notes just didn’t work for her.
Judges Comments:
Randy Jackson: Criticised her pitch and said “That was honestly terrible…….I know you’re probably better than that.”
Ellen DeGeneres wouldn’t critique her performance at all. She just said that she looked good and congratulated her on not falling over while wearing such high heels.
Kara DioGuardi said that she thinks Paige stopped competing somewhere along the way. She also said that it was the worst vocal she’s ever heard from her.

American Idol week now begins on Mondays, when the contestant who just left the show appears on the Late Show With David Letterman. Lacey Brown was very game but the segment was awkward since she was interviewed by Dave from across the room. (She was with the band.) Then he and Paul kept talking about her being rejected and kicked off, which is true but hardly necessary to keep repeating. Oddly, she chose to sing "What A Wonderful World," popularized by Louis Armstrong. Lacey did okay with it, but what an odd, old-fashioned number for her to choose as her last chance to make an impression on the public. But in fact Lacey was right in tune with the Idol contestants. This week they could pick any tune that hit #1 on the Hot 100. But it felt like oldies night...
