Amazon and Skydance on Monday unveiled Kelce, a documentary focused on Philadelphia Eagles team captain and All-Pro center Jason Kelce, which will premiere on Prime Video September 12th.
Debuting on the platform just two days ahead of Thursday Night Football‘s return, pitting the Minnesota Vikings vs. the Eagles, the film directed by 9.14 Pictures’ Don Argott specifically spotlights Kelce’s 2022-23 season, which began with him confronting one of the most challenging decisions any professional athlete will ever face — is now the time to hang it up?
After deciding to return for his 12th NFL season, Kelce embarked on a remarkable journey, highlighted by the arrival of his third daughter; the debut of his chart-topping podcast New Heights, which he co-hosts with his brother, Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce; and a history-making Super Bowl appearance that placed the entire Kelce family at the center of the sports world.

(Spoiler alert: Please don’t read on if you haven’t watched Monday’s season finale of “American Idol”)
Sorry, ABC’s inaugural “American Idol” winner Maddie Poppe — you’ve already been outshined. On Monday, Jimmy Kimmel brought together a bunch of forgotten “Idol” alums like William Hung, Sanjaya Malakar, Chewbacca Girl, and the “Pants on the Ground” guy, “General” Larry Platt, for an all-star parody performance of “We Are the World.”
With all due respect to Sanjaya, there were also some actual good singers in the mix — even winners Taylor Hicks and Ruben Studdard showed up for the gag.

Antonella Barba, Kevin Covais, Haley Reinhart, Scott MacIntyre, and Reynaldo Lapuz also participated in the pre-taped sketch. Be honest, reader: How many of them do you actually remember?
Anyway, the entire premise was one big “Where are they now?...

It's the end of an era on American Idol, as the audition process draws to its conclusion for the final time.
From the highs (Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood) to the lows (Kenneth Briggs, Jonathan Jayne, damn right you sent them to the Super Bowl), the viral (William Hung, Larry Platt) to the Cowell-panned split decisions (Taylor Hicks, Chris Daughtry), all the way down to the vote-for-the-worst crowd that stuck around way too long (Sanjaya Malakar, Kevin Covais, Tim Urban), Idol auditions have been ingrained in pop culture for the past decade and a half.

At its peak, the reality juggernaut American Idol seemed like a perfectly scripted high drama occasionally soundtracked with Bee Gees songs. At its lows, it was also that, but with worse singing.
We're all going to miss the chills-inducing performances and heartwarming stories of personal triumph, yes, but more important, we're going to miss the train-wreck auditions that gave Simon Cowell a chance to wild out on some misguided people and made us all feel a little bit better about ourselves.

Two important things -- 1) "Pants on the Ground" auteur General Larry Platt is Still Alive!!! ... and 2) He absolutely loves the new saggy pants ban in New Jersey. As we reported, the Jersey Shore town of Wildwood has passed a law banning saggy pants from its boardwalk, and it's scheduled to go into effect next month. But unlike a bunch of famous rappers, legendary "American Idol" anti-sag crusader Platt tells TMZ, "I am happy about the...

A few years ago, musical visionary and Georgia native Larry Platt appeared on "American Idol" to open his heart to the world; Larry thought kids were lookin' like a fool with their pants on the ground.
And the city of Albany, Georgia agreed.
Nine months ago, Albany instituted a saggy pants ordinance. According to reports, 187 citations have been issued and $3916.49 in fines have been collected.
First-time offenders pay $25; subsequent offenses can cost a violator up to $200. What exactly qualifies as saggy pants? Pants or skirts worn more than three inches below the top of the hips thus resulting in exposed skin or underwear.
Violators who are desperate to hold on to their cash can complete 40 hours of community service. All this for sagging your pants? You better believe it.
And Larry Platt's agenda is spreading. Other Georgia cities including Dublin, Hawkinsville and Rome are considering similar ordinances.
So what do you think?...

X Factor is pushing the limits to an extreme point — and I love it! Simon Cowell‘s international hit made it’s American debut on Sept. 21 and I must admit I expected a big yawn, but boy was I wrong. It was not a great night for talent when American Idol rolled into Los Angeles for another round of auditions Thursday - Ryan Seacrest used the word "abysmal." They started with Steven Tyler telling the very first wannabe, Victoria Garrett, "You're going to - Siberia!" To Victoria's credit, she managed to take a couple of deadpan shots at Jennifer Lopez's singing on her way off camera. But it's better for morale to first highlight promising talent heading to Hollywood: Karen Rodriquez, who'd initially auditioned online, sang both with heat and, as Jennifer said, "beautiful control." Quiz: Are You an Idol All-Star?...

"American Idol" takes on the crazy town of Los Angeles, CA Thursday night (Feb. 3), plus the MySpace auditions are in the house. So in "Idol" land it's still 2004? Got it.
That makes sense, since this episode is almost wall-to-wall bad/crazy auditions and that schtick hasn't been funny since then.
Victoria Garrett is the first audition of the night and you can just tell by her crazy outfit from 1984, her God talk and her starry-eyed attitude that she is going to suck. And she does. Why do we have to watch those? Hilariously, afterwards she says, "I let my nerves get the best of me."
This episode's resident J.Lo-lover is Tim Halperin with "She Will Be Loved." The lower stuff is nice, but he doesn't quite have the chops to do the high stuff on the chorus. But the whole narrative of this guy's audition is his love for Jennifer Lopez,...

To celebrate the 10th season of "American Idol" (does that make anyone else feel ancient?), we're digging into the MTV News archives each week to take a look at monumental moments in "Idol" history.
Back in 2002, Kelly Clarkson was just a gleam in America's eye, not the chart-topping pop/rock diva she's become. Will the new season — which kicks off Wednesday night (January 19) — find just as stellar a superstar? Only time will tell. Until then, let's take a look back at This Week in "Idol":

After months of speculation, unprecedented turnover, incredible business deals and all sorts of rebuilding, the new season of "American Idol" is finally set to premiere on Wednesday night (January 19). The 10th season of the iconic show brings a whole host of changes, most notably in the new faces sitting behind the judges' table. Actress, singer and dancer Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler replace the departed Simon Cowell and Kara DioGuardi, joining Randy Jackson as the trio who will decide who will get the opportunity to become a pop star. Though the show's track record is a little bit spotty, there's no denying its impact on the music world and on pop culture at large. No matter who is sitting behind the judges' table, the return of "American Idol" is an event.
While the early episodes will likely be focusing on the new judges, it's important to remember that...

Jennifer Lopez's ex-husband has been told not to audition for a spot on the new season of "American Idol" because he won't be welcomed. Ojani Noa was hoping to embarrass his ex in Los Angeles on Wednesday, September 22, as she makes her debut as a judge on the show, by showing up for try-outs at the Forum.
A spokesman for Noa told WENN he was even planning to perform one of Lopez's songs. But "Idol" bosses are keen to keep the Cuban-American away from auditions, according to reports. A source tells the Chicago Sun Times newspaper that producers are determined not to embarrass Lopez and they've reportedly hired 'screeners' to make sure Noa doesn't slip past security - even if he's in disguise.
They insist they're justified in barring him from the competition because, at 36, he's well past the "Idol" cut-off age of 28. A source close to Noa tells WENN,...

Congratulations! You're seven days older than you were last week. To celebrate, let's take a look back at the most titillating moments of the week in Soup. 1. American Idol embraced the weirdest (and least talented side) of their show last night with a surprise performance of the strange cultural phenomenon from early in the season "Pants on the Ground." But they didn't stop there - they took it to "eleven" by also bringing in one-time white hot viral star William Hung, who joined Larry Platt, the original performer of "Pants on the Ground" in what can only be described as the single weirdest moment in the history of American television.

The pleasures were many on last night's American Idol closer, but along with the chuckle-laden roasting of departing Simon and a multitude of oldies acts coming to a county fair near you this summer, there was disappointment. At least in the Soup camp. While paint salesman Lee DeWyze—a lad with all the charm of a drowsy hamster—was somehow crowned the next Idol of these United States, the real Idol was robbed. Joe Cocker, Paula Abdul and other random guests can't distract from a lackluster season nine.

"American Idol" wrapped up "The Season of the Girl" by handing the "Idol" crown to a boy. Season nine really was as inept as we all thought.
Sorry Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox, but Wednesday night's two-hour finale was really all about Simon Cowell. With the exception of David Cook and Adam Lambert, most of the past "Idol" favorites showed up — even ones Simon supposedly hates — to say goodbye to the guy who helped make them moderately successful. Then Paula Abdul returned to the "Idol" stage in a bizarre appearance that can only be described as part roast, part intervention.

Well, at least he’s a nice guy. Say what you want about Lee DeWyze winning American Idol (to my ears, Crystal Bowersox outperformed him the entire season), but at least the guy sincerely appreciated the love America showered upon him. Fox ended the finale telecast while Lee was still belting out U2′s “Beautiful Day,” which is too bad because the sweetest (as in, awww, that’s sweet) part of the show occurred right after his victory song. Lee, with mic still in hand, took a moment to personally thank the audience in the Nokia Theatre. “You have no...

Every year, "American Idol" begins with an array of auditions, and not all of the hopefuls are memorable because of their talent. The May 26 Season 9 finale saw the return of General Larry Platt, a 63-year-old civil rights activist who reprised his original "Pants on the Ground" from auditions in Atlanta.
Platt was joined in the finale by another familiar face from past "Idol" auditions: William Hung. Who could forget Hung's rendition of "She Bangs," or his subsequent album "Inspiration"? It's only appropriate that these two join up on Simon Cowell's final night as an "American Idol" judge.
The performance will certainly go down in "Idol" history. Platt and Hung were joined by dancers who happily dropped their jeans on stage. Platt himself was surprisingly light on his feet, especially considering the fact that he's 63 years old. We'd like to nominate him for the next season of "Dancing With the Stars.

Being that this is "American Idol," the results show — which could legitimately be only five minutes long — will run well over two hours. And being that this is Simon Cowell's final "Idol" episode ever, expect lots of celebrity cameos. (And when I say "celebrity," I mean Blake Lewis and Normund Gentle.)
Christina Aguilera and Enrique Iglesias are scheduled to perform (in honor of 1999, the year Simon first got his flat-top haircut), as well as our reigning Idol, Kris "Not Adam Lambert, The Straight One" Allen. There are plenty of rumored appearances, too, ranging from Janet Jackson to Hall and Oates. (Those greatest hits albums aren't going to sell themselves, now will they?)
But wait! There's more!
"Idol" finales bring back the entire Top 12 of the season, and often the singers get paired up with established acts, so congratulations random dude who hoped to see Paige Miles and Insane Clown Posse perform together.

Lee DeWyze is the next "American Idol," beating out Crystal Bowersox for the top prize and a recording contract. The 24-year-old singer performed a smooth set with the 8-time multi-platinum band Chicago as he wowed fans for the win. Bowersox offered a pair of songs with Canadian rocker Alanis Morissette, who showed up for a live duet on the final episode. In the closing tune, Bowersox and DeWyze performed 'A Little Help From My Friends' with Joe Cocker.
However, enthusiasm has waned for the show, with only 19 million viewers tuning in to watch their final performances on May 25, the lowest rating since the show began in 2002. Even the crowd at the live performance seemed a bit jaded. An ailing Bret Michaels walked onto the stage to sing a duet with a formerly booted Idol contestant, and the crowd barely got up to their feet.

The internet rumor-mill is abuzz with talk about which legendary artists will be on hand to crown the "American Idol" Season 9 winner and send Simon Cowell riding off into the sunset to start his show "The X Factor."

They're both 24 years old and were vying to be the first Midwesterner to win the "American Idol" title. One, Ohioan Crystal Bowersox, was the odds-on favorite to win it all for most of season nine, while the other, low-key Illinois-bred Lee DeWyze, came on strong down the stretch and threatened to pull out an upset victory.
On Wednesday night (May 26), when all the hoopla, oldies acts and teary goodbyes to departing judge Simon Cowell were finally said and done, it was DeWyze who emerged victorious in an "Idol" upset for the ages.

The American Idol judges appeared on ‘Larry King Live’ last night and had a relaxed chat about season nine of the show.
Giggling like school children, Ryan Seacrest and Simon Cowell revealed that they often play practical jokes on each other, just as the show is about to air, causing Larry to exclaim:
‘You know you have a problem when Ellen DeGeneres represents normalcy’
On how she’s finding her first season as a judge Ellen admitted that she sometimes lies to spare the feelings of the contestants. She said:
‘It’s hard, it’s really hard. It’s easy to sit at home and have opinions but when those kids are waiting for you to tell them how they sounded and sometimes I hear myself go I liked it but inside I’m thinking “no you didn’t!” Sometimes you just want to boost them up and give them another shot.

The "American Idol" magazine is back on newsstands Friday, March 26 and it is chock full o' backstage pictures and dish.
The magazine is returning after a three-season hiatus.
"We decided to take a break after the last magazine because we just didn't have the bandwidth and wanted to concentrate our efforts on other areas of licensing and producing the TV show," Fremantle Media tells Zap2it.
"Now we are in a better position internally and also have found a great partner in Soap Opera Digest who can carry out our vision of the magazine so it's perfect timing to bring this product back."
Among the great new features include asking the season 9 Idols who their inspirations are:
Crystal Bowersox: Melissa Ethridge, Janis Joplin, Ray Lamontagne, Bobby May, Frankie May, Brian Walker and Ray Charles.
Siobhan Magnus: Hanson, Hole and anything that comes from the heart

Larry Platt, who claimed his fame for singing a self-penned song "Pants on the Ground" in an "American Idol" audition, is facing a lawsuit. The former human rights activist is accused of owing American King Music some money.
The recording company which was founded by rapper Mims said they have funded "producing, writing and recording of Mr. Platt's official recording of the single [Pants on the Ground]." And, they ask to be entitled to 50% of profits from the song's digital sale on iTunes.
"My client, American King Music, who funded Mr. Platt's recording session with Mims, would like to compensate Mr. Platt for the sales of the full-length hit song 'Pants on the Ground' which we made available on iTunes," so the attorney of the company said. "However, Mr. Platt and his representatives have failed to take care of Mr. Platt's obligations."
According to Larry Platt's manager, they never signed any contract with American King Music.

The ninth season of "American Idol" has been amusing so far, delivering a number of memorable moments (including Larry Platt's "Pants on the Ground" and frontrunner Andrew Garcia's memorable take on Paula Abdul's "Straight Up"), but the real business starts tonight.
The top 24 have been selected, and now the competition becomes heated. The 12 remaining women will sing tonight, with the 12 men performing on Wednesday (February 24). And despite the fact that producer and judge Simon Cowell believes that a woman will win "American Idol" this time around, the short odds are currently on Garcia, the "Straight Up" singer with former gangsters for parents. According to Internet betting site Bodog, Garcia is an early favorite to win the season by a count of 4-1 (meaning that a bet of...

1. Ellen DeGeneres is just the shot in the arm that the show needed. Now we've been on Team Ellen since her ABC sitcom, but some "Idol" watchers and aficionados wondered if DeGeneres had the judging chops to hold her own against the big bad Cowell. Former American Idol winner Carrie Underwood has joked that the youth of today can learn a lot from General Larry Platt’s audition song ‘Pants On The Ground.’
“As a songwriter I know we all aspire to write something that is catchy and has a message, and I think the youth of America can learn a lot from Pants on the Ground,” Underwood jokingly told USA Today.
“And they can pull their pants up… because it causes all kinds of back problems. I’ve seen the studies.”

"American Idol" finalist Chris Daughtry and his eponymous band took the stage for a pre-Super Bowl concert.
We think "Germans love David Hasselhoff" could be changed to "the NFL loves 'American Idol.'"
Carrie Underwood is doing the National Anthem, Kris Allen did the Anthem for a championship game two weeks ago and Larry Platt made a surprise visit to the Minnesota Vikings' locker room for the Nfc title game, plus over the years Jennifer Hudson, Jordin Sparks and Kelly Clarkson have performed at several big games.
Chris Daughtry didn't get invited to do the anthem, but we like him rocking out to his own music better anyway. What do you guys think? Did he do alright?

On Wednesday night, the endless parade of costumed wannabes and ham-fisted sob stories came to an end as "American Idol" aired its final audition episode of the season. By my count, season nine has yielded two divorces, 26 foster families, two syndromes (Tourette's and Downs), one Alzheimer's, two cancer survivors, one Austistic child, one paralyzed face and a reformed bank robber, yet only one true breakout star: "Pants on the Ground" sensation General Larry Platt. And that dude isn't even eligible for the competition!
Gee, "Idol" producers, you think it's time to revamp these audition episodes?
Thankfully, Wednesday night's final helping — a hodgepodge of leftover tryouts from every city they visited — was packed with talented singers, some of whom I could even imagine at the Kodak Theater, singing a song about obstacles, fortitude and earthquakes.
My favorite was redhead crooner Lacey Brown, who made "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" sound like I...

Thousands of hopefuls. Hundreds of songs. Seven cities. Four excruciating weeks. A dude in a two-piece bikini. One pair of pants on the ground. On Wednesday, "American Idol" wrapped up the auditions for its ninth season, and judging by the numbers — or, really, any other quantifier — it was a pretty interesting ride.
From the news that Simon Cowell would be leaving the show at season's end, to the spate of celebrity judges lined up by show producers (Neil Patrick Harris, we love you), "Idol" generated more than a few headlines, and in the auditioners rolled out for our viewing, uncovered some genuine diamonds in the rough.

The best audition from Wednesday night's "American Idol?" Jessica Furney.
Jessica Furney, fresh off a makeover after auditioning for season 8 and not getting too far, was back in the best of the rest episode with a Simon Cowell-penned song called "Footprints in the Sand."
Jessica was one of our favorites of the night. We loved her tone and while Simon joked around that her song choice was beautiful, we could tell he liked her too.
We hope to see more of Jessica in Hollywood Week, which starts next Tuesday, Feb. 9 and runs for two weeks.

During the "We Are the World" press conference Monday night, there were a couple moments were the celebrities involved let loose and had a little fun. One of these choice moments came at the end of the interview with Justin Bieber and Randy Jackson, thanks to the biggest "American Idol" phenomenon of 2010 — Larry Platt's "Pants on the Ground."
" 'Pants on the Ground' can't win!" Jackson joked to reporters when asked who would be triumphant on the show this season. "I love him though! We love him! He's cool. General Larry Platt is cool!"
The real gold came when Justin decided to chime in on Larry Platt's amazingness. "That guy was awesome!" he said. "Is he even a general?"
Randy then schooled the young pop star in all things Platt. "He's a real general, dude," Jackson offered. "And guess what? He also walked and marched with Martin Luther King.

We've finally wrapped the guest judges on "American Idol." How'd they all do?
One thing that hinders our judging of the guest judges is the fact that screentime is not always created equal.
By our (extremely scientific) calculations, we've seen 2 1/4 hours of Victoria Beckham, 1.5 hours of Mary J. Blige, 45 minutes each of Shania Twain and Kristin Chenoweth, about 30 minutes of Neil Patrick Harris, 20 minutes each of Avril Lavigne and Katy Perry and about five seconds of Joe Jonas.
Enough to judge how they did? It doesn't matter, we're going to judge anyway.
According to our guest judge polls, as of 8 a.m. Pt Wednesday, Feb. 3, on a scale of Bad, Meh and Great, Victoria Beckham was the only "Meh," Mary J. Blige, Avril Lavigne and Katy Perry all got "Bad," Shania Twain, Kristin Chenoweth and Neil Patrick Harris all got "Great" and poor Joe Jonas got "I blinked and missed him.

General Larry Platt appeared in the Atlanta auditions of American Idol, looking like a fool with his self-penned song "Pants on the Ground" on the metaphorical ground of America's living rooms. Simon Cowell blithely remarked that the song could be a hit, and now it just may be: The viral sensation is now a fully produced, three-and-a-half-minute jam. The song, embedded after the break, is still as high on life (and the waist) as you remember.

"American Idol" superstar General Larry Platt has taken to the recording studio and laid down his "Pants on the Ground." Listen here.
We aren't sure how we feel about "Pants on the Ground" getting the technology treatment.
It's just not the same as the simple version Larry Platt did for the "Idol" judges so many months ago. Too over-produced for our taste -- we're minimalists when it comes to "Pants," we guess. But good for Larry for finally getting his own recording done -- the imitations have been mounting!
TMZ is reporting that Platt's former manager has been releasing the song to radio stations without Larry's permission, saying that the song is promotional and not for profit. We think that smells fishy and we hope Larry Platt gets his due for his work.
What do you guys think? Prefer the studio recording or the break-dancing-grandpa original?
