DC Comics character Vixen is joining the The CW’s live action "Arrow" TV series, with Megalyn Echikunwoke playing the role. The actress has been voicing the character in CW Seed's animated "Vixen" series, so I suppose this was a natural progression. Vixen (alter-ego - Mari Jiwe McCab) is a super-hero from the fictional African nation of Zambesi, whose superhero powers include using her Tantu Totem to channel the powers of animals in the animal kingdom, so she's able to mimic the abilities of any animal that has ever lived on Earth. Created by Gerry Conway and Bob Oksner, and first appearing in Action Comics #521, in 1981, Vixen has been a member of the...

Sneak Peek the first trailer from new animated TV series "Vixen", adapting the DC Comics female superhero character, living in the same shared universe as "Arrow" and "The Flash", airing over The CW's digital-only network, CW Seed:
'Vixen', aka 'Mari Jiwe McCabe' was created by writer Gerry Conway and illustrator Bob Oksner, debuting in DC's "Action Comics" #521 (July 1981).
'Vixen' possesses the innate ability to make direct contact with the Earth's 'morphogenetic field', aka the 'Red'. By focusing on a specific animal, she can draw its skill and mimic its abilities, thus giving herself a variety of superhuman powers.
Vixen has used the flight of a hawk, the ability to breathe under water like a fish, the swimming ability and sonar of a dolphin, the speed of a cheetah, the constriction of an anaconda, the strength of a bull elephant, the agility of a spider monkey, etc.

At its best, comics is like a family, where people in the field are known by their first names by fans and peers alike. Jerry, Joe (well, several Joes, actually, but context always makes it clear which one), Will, Bob, Bill, Stan, Jack, Steve, Marie, Carmine, Len, Marv, Flo.
Irwin.
Irwin Hasen was my friend, just as he was a lot of people’s friend. Of course, millions of people knew Irwin through his comics (Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Wildcat, the Fox, and, of course, Dondi). But because he had no children and no local relatives, Irwin’s friends and companions were his cartooning contemporaries, the cartoonists he mentored, and a steady stream of admirers, thirty to fifty years his junior, who crossed his path in various ways. Some were fans, some fellow comics pros. Some were descendants of his contemporaries, seeking information about and connection with their parents or grandparents through Irwin,...

The battle between DC and Marvel for mainstream superhero entertainment supremacy isn’t solely relegated to the confines of blockbusting major motion pictures. It’s playing out on television, too.
While ABC adds some Edward James Olmos to its Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D (that’s a Marvel title) and Disney preps a $200 million New York City-based production for four upcoming Netflix series starring uncanny individuals from the junior varsity team of the Marvel universe, Fox’s Gotham (a DC title) is raking in the ratings and the CW is adding another DC property to its ranks. The broadcast network that’s aleady home to two incredibly popular television iterations of DC comics - including the very well-liked Arrow and the even more very well-liked The Flash - will soon stream an animated version of Vixen on its online video incubator, CW Seed.
