All reality television competitions run on drama. That’s what casting directors look for in participants; a show of calm, broad-minded, flexible folks certainly wouldn’t be compelling for audiences (and the ratings would be snoozy as well).
But recent headlines suggest a change may need to happen. While these reality TV competitions are entertaining and contribute to enormous viewership, a number of contestants push the envelope excessively — backstabbing, gossiping, and revealing outrageous behavior. The latest example was Sunday night, on the history-making live finale of CBS’ “Big Brother,” when fan favorite Taylor Hale overcame numerous adversities to become the first Black female to ever win a non-celebrity version of the game, taking home 750,000.
In a house with several other contestants who severely bullied her, Hale, a former pageant queen, was made fun of and unfairly ostracized for weeks, becoming the underdog for viewers to root for. Outraged and very vocal on social media,...

This is either going to be really good or so bad, it’s great. But either way, ABC’s relaunch of Battle of the Network Stars (premiering Thursday, June 29 at 9/8c) is looking like the summer’s must-see — especially since on Tuesday the full list of competitors was released. The celebrities we’re most psyched to see throwing down in events like the kayak relay race and dunk tank:

Biggest Question: “He’s the worst federal agent I’ve ever met!” declared Survivor’s Corinne of Phillip. “What cases did he crack? Like, what cases was he working on? And is that why our country is in such a mess?”
Most Intriguing New Character: Why Revenge saddled Emily’s stepbrother with the name Eli we’re not sure, but he’s already proving to be a great addition.
Best Cliffhanger: Before being bumped from the airwaves for two days of March Madness, The Young & The Restless celebrated its 40th anniversary by having the reception of newly-remarried Nikki and Victor threatened by both a bomb and a gun-toting baddie!
Queen Most In Need Of Dethroning: How the heck did Ivy Winters get booted from Rupaul’S Drag Race before Roxxxy Andrews, who strutted the runway look like a piece of discarded bubble gum and had a stinker of a perfume ad?...

Last season, despite being outnumbered in the house, the veteran players managed to control almost every aspect of the game, and one of them came out on top. So it was no surprise that the new players faces were filled with apprehension when Julie Chen announced that four former players would be returning to play "Big Brother" (Thu., 9 p.m. Et on CBS) with them.
But things are different this time around. This season premiere introduced the twelve new players, and brought back four veterans as coaches. That means they're not competing for the main prize, but a separate $100,000 prize set aside if one of their players takes home the top prize.
Back in the house were Britney (BB12-4th place) and Dan (BB10-winner) playing for the second time. Returning for the third time were Janelle (BB6-3rd/BBAllStars-3rd) and Mike "Boogie" (BB2-8/BBAllStars-winner). Julie...

Big Brother 14 Season Premiere Review: It's A Whole New Big Brother Game
After the events of tonight's Big Brother, "wow" is too low of a description to give the show this year..
Big Brother returned to TV tonight with a huge bang of surprises, twists, and a whole barrage of information that I'm still deciphering just what the hell just went down. So let's try to make sense of it all, shall we?
Besides being a group filled with YouTube celebrities, musicians, and other minor fame-whoring qualities, the new Big Brother House Guests seem like an interesting bunch, but they haven't necessarily won me over as a whole just yet. However, while Wil, Willie, and Ian are already headed to be favorites of mine, it's not to the point where I am itching to follow a "Team Willie" account on Twitter anywhere. Hell, even the returns of Mike Boogie, Janelle,...

Summer has officially begun! Big Brother season 14 is finally here! Head of Households, Back Doors, P.O.V. Competitions, throwing people on the block, allies, that delicious slop and eviction nights! Julie Chen, how we've missed you and that fab face glitter you sparkle with! Expect the unexpected folks, because this season's twist brings back four alumni to play the game. But instead of playing the game with the rest of the newbies, they will be coaches. They'll pick teams, live in the house and have the opportunity to win big: the coach of the winning houseguest will pocket $100,000 while the one who's standing after the final four will take home $500,000.

It's time to pick a winner before the "Big Brother 14" shenanigans begin with Thursday night's (July 12) premiere episode and first night of live feeds/"Big Brother After Dark." The last time Zap2it did this, we correctly predicted Hayden would win (though our alliance he would be with was way off).
Now, the twist this season is past hamsters returning as mentors (and we know who the mentors are, if you want to be spoiled). That will not factor in here, which will probably hurt our predictions, since some mentors will probably be better than others. But here we go ...
(Caveat: chef Joe Arvin is not included here. He was a last-minute replacement cast member, so we have not met him and therefore have absolutely no impression to use in predicting how he'll do).
Contestant: JoJo Spatafora
Odds: 12-1
Something about this girl rubs us the wrong way - could...

Although Nana Jodi was incredibly calm throughout this leg of the race in Chile, she and grand daughter, Shannon, were the last to arrive at this week's pit stop on The Amazing Race. Jodi says she feels if Shannon had done the roadblock, they might still be in the race, but Shannon feels her Nana should stop beating herself up so much--she's proud of her. They arrive at 'elimination station' in the clip below and talk about the race:
As for the other teams from last night's episode, here are the highlights:
Cowboys, Jet and Cord, rode to become the leaders of the pack and won this leg of the race. (prize was sailboats)
Carol and Brandy formed an alliance with married couple, Joe and Heidi. Probably not Joe and Heidi's best move as Carol and Brandy don't seem to be able to do anything on their own at...

It’s that time again. The air grows cold, and the thrill of competition is high. Amidst the snow and ice, television watchers tune in from the comfort of their homes, uniting to support teams and competitors from the United States as they face off against the entire world. It’s a tough road: one that requires dedication, perseverance and levels of physical exertion most of us will never know. It’s man versus the world, but in the end, the challenges are all worth it. One will rise up among the rest and the world will know them as the best. And on another channel, the Winter Olympics are playing out.
It’s the season premiere of the 16th season of The Amazing Race. Eleven teams have been chosen by CBS to vie for the one million dollar cash prize. Racing around the world is no small feat, but...

Television Rating: 4.5/5.0 Chicago – For six years there has been an Emmy Award for Outstanding Reality Competition Program and for every one of those years the same show has walked home with the trophy, beating series like “Project Runway,” “Survivor,” and “American Idol”. That show is “The Amazing Race”. Based on the strength of the premiere, it seems likely the producers of this CBS mainstay should probably make room for Emmy #7.
“The Amazing Race” could be used in classrooms to dissect what separates the good reality TV from the bad. Yes, hosts are important and Phil Keoghan is one of the best. And concept is key. But a competition shows lives and dies on two things - casting and editing, both of which are incredibly strong on “The Amazing Race”.
Standing from L to R: Amanda and Kris, Mel and Mike, Lakisha and Jen, Preston and Jennifer, Margie and Luke, Brad...
